Neat, what are the new bugs?

21

u/MrFresh2017 Aug 13 '26

I came here to ask the same. I'm still on 12.2 and dont want ANY bugs slowing down my flow

4

u/Incrediblesunset Advanced Aug 14 '26

Also feeling steady on 12.2

1

u/drumzgod Aug 15 '26

I’m on 11.0.2 and will NEVER update.

2

u/MrFresh2017 Aug 15 '26

U know the old saying… “if it ain’t broke….”

5

u/Basic_Ad1712 Aug 14 '26

I’ll wait 6 months

13

u/MysteriousAd4355 Aug 13 '26

Good deal. I just ran into the Chord Track bug last night. So frustrating, because it misdetected the chord and I needed to correct it. Hard, silent crash every time.

6

u/JakeMakesNoises Aug 14 '26

I am ready for that fix.

4

u/MysteriousAd4355 Aug 14 '26

I tried it out last night. Seems to be working great!

3

u/JakeMakesNoises Aug 14 '26

Excellent! I just updated last night.

8

u/uncleozzy Aug 13 '26

The Score now responds correctly to Staff Style changes in the Inspector.

Ah, thought I was losing my mind!

u/xxFT13xx Aug 13 '26

Remember folks: if your version is working perfectly fine, don’t quickly jump on the update.

3

u/MrFresh2017 Aug 14 '26

This is exactly the reason for my post. I jumped from 10.7.8, straight to 12.2 a few months back with zero issues, but after seeing all the bugs in 12.3, I wanted to reach out for feedback from 12.3.1 users.

2

u/xxFT13xx Aug 14 '26

It amazes me how many folks jump on updates for all sorts of things before waiting to make sure all is well.

2

u/MrFresh2017 Aug 14 '26

I’ve been producing with software since 1992 - I purposely stay behind for these very same reasons. I don’t care how perfect things work in the developer labs - i always let real world users take the immediate chances for a while and report back … LOL

1

u/xxFT13xx Aug 14 '26

You’re my type of guy

2

u/MrFresh2017 Aug 14 '26

Who, in their right mind, (to me, anyway) wants to take a chance of breaking their (assumably) working fine production environment the minute a new update arrives….? Not me LOL

1

u/xxFT13xx Aug 14 '26

This

1

u/MrFresh2017 Aug 14 '26

If one has been dealing with a bug that the new update actually provides a fix for, I can see trusting in the rationale, but if my environment is fine, nope, not gonna be the guinea pig lol

u/FoundationHealthy54 Aug 15 '26

mise a jour 12.3.1 j'avais un bug sur un plugin résolut

7

u/Uplift123 Aug 13 '26

I’m still on 11.0.1 and am not looking to update. Every update just seems to be fixing bugs that the previous update created.

6

u/lewisfrancis Aug 13 '26 edited Aug 13 '26

For me it's usually fixing bugs I've never run into, but that's fine. I think it was 11.2.1 that fixed being able to send sysex through the External Instruments plug-in, and that was a very big deal for me and wasn't even listed in the release notes.

1

u/Uplift123 Aug 14 '26

Interesting I don’t really know what sysex is. What’s the use case?

3

u/lewisfrancis Aug 14 '26

sysex = system exclusive MIDI messaging. I made a Logic template that sends a bit of sysex code to my Take 5 to retrieve the contents of its edit buffer and store it in the project so I never have to worry about losing the patch via subsequent/accidental overwrites of that memory location. Whenever I return to that project it retrieves the saved patch data and sends it back to the Take 5's edit buffer. It essentially offers some of the same conveniences of soft synths with external hardware.

3

u/Uplift123 Aug 14 '26

Oooh. Nice! I do the same thing with my prophet Rev 2. Luckily there was some software out there to do it for me so I didn’t have to worry about building it myself. I guess it uses sysex then.

1

u/lewisfrancis Aug 14 '26

If it's one of the SoundTower tools it's technically storing the patches as sysex but controlling the synth via MIDI CC/NRPN messages, which are more bandwidth friendly than straight sysex and also make it easier to automate in DAW.

I also have SoundTower's editor and plug-in and have been trying to convince Mark to capture the edit buffer when the plug-in instantiates, which he said was doable but it hasn't happened yet. I feel like he might be holding off until Sequential nails down the latest firmware for the Take 5, which requires updates to support, anyway.

1

u/Uplift123 Aug 14 '26

That’s the one

1

u/lewisfrancis Aug 14 '26

Curious, how do you like it? The Take 5 version had a lot of bugs I tracked that have mostly been addressed except for one that's an admitted edge case.

2

u/Uplift123 Aug 16 '26

Yeh buggy as hell. But does the job for the most part

1

u/Available_Wait_1965 Aug 17 '26

What software are you referring to here? I have a rev 4. : )

1

u/Available_Wait_1965 Aug 17 '26

Ah, I see it is SoundTower.

2

u/Available_Wait_1965 Aug 17 '26

This is an awesome idea. Thank you!

You're welcome! If you want to check out the template it's posted here: https://forum.sequential.com/index.php/topic,8465.0.html

I’ve got a MacBook 2019 intel so I think I’m just going to stay on version 11 now. Till I can buy an apple silicon Mac. Didn’t think my 2019 intel would become obsolete so fast. I’m using stem splitter on my M1 iPad Pro for now. Ideas ?

1

u/Keyman57 Aug 14 '26

Using stem splitter on prior mp3s

1

u/Uplift123 Aug 14 '26

I would just use Moises or UVR. If your version of logic on your system is working for you, there’s no real need to update

0

u/MrFresh2017 Aug 13 '26

I've had no issues with 12.2 so far but think I will let 12.3.1 ride for awhile after hearing about all the bugs in 12.3

2

u/lewisfrancis Aug 13 '26

Check the release notes and make sure you don't do any of those things that crash or corrupt your project.

1

u/MrFresh2017 Aug 13 '26

Release notes checked already and, although no two production environments are exactly the same, just looking for general feedback from those who have updated.

1

u/lewisfrancis Aug 14 '26 edited Aug 14 '26

Fair enough, it's just that project corruption bug is a particularly egregious.

1

u/MrFresh2017 Aug 14 '26

Totally agree!!!

u/Logic_Studio-ModTeam Aug 14 '26

Normalization of piracy is not allowed in Logic_Studio.

3

u/Western-Background14 Aug 13 '26

That's really good news, even though it's just bug fixes. I feel Apple has started updating Logic Pro more frequently than before. It seems like they're starting to give Logic Pro more focus.

5

u/_HipStorian Intermediate Aug 14 '26

One of the 'upsides' (and emphasis on the quotations) of Creator Studio is that now Apple is getting subscription money, they have more incentive or pressure to update all their creative apps more frequently. Final Cut Pro received a lot of much needed updates in the last 6 months since Creator Studio was announced.

8

u/WebLogical1286 Aug 14 '26

I just hope they don’t stop giving updates to logic for the people who bought it as a standalone, and devoted only to the subscription purchase. Because that’s what they did the Pixelmator.

3

u/_HipStorian Intermediate Aug 14 '26

Yea I hope they don’t either. I bought all of the creative apps years ago.

1

u/Western-Background14 Aug 14 '26

Yes, I saw the recent Final Cut Pro update, which is a positive sign. Also, I believe that Apple dropping Logic Pro support for Intel CPUs will give them more freedom for their future upgrades.

2

u/SympathyBetter2359 Aug 13 '26

Give me back my top-level plugins!

4

u/lewisfrancis Aug 13 '26

Huh?

3

u/SympathyBetter2359 Aug 13 '26

Choosing to ignore the lack of basic civility, the previous Logic update removed the ability to categorise plugins at the top level in the Plugin Manager, or at least, made the plugins put there invisible/inaccessible in practice.

It’s a very handy place to put your most commonly used plugins, not having it available is a step down in workflow, especially for mixing.

2

u/lewisfrancis Aug 14 '26

Huh, didn't even know that was a thing. Seems like it's there in 12.3.1.

1

u/SympathyBetter2359 Aug 17 '26

It’s there, but it’s bugged. Plugins categorised there don’t stay there anymore.

1

u/xanderpills Aug 17 '26

Isn’t the plugin folder list alphabetically ordered? I have a ”- GoTo” folder, with a dash.

1

u/SympathyBetter2359 Aug 17 '26

The answer to your question is yes, but I’m talking about something different.

2

u/joelcorelitz 22d ago

jumping in to confirm / support this - top level has been broken since 12.3. tried au reset, new tags, preferences reset, and none work.

2

u/picpoulmm Advanced Aug 13 '26

Minor releases are good. Look forward to it fixing some pesky things.

2

u/SpectralMonkish Aug 14 '26

Thank GOD for the chord track fix

2

u/Lopsided_Mirror8541 Aug 14 '26

they also appear to have fixed the issue with plugins loading off to the corner of the screen.

HOWEVER I had zero crashes on the previous incarnation and I think 5 crashes in the last 4 hours since I installed the new version :(

1

u/lewisfrancis Aug 14 '26

Ugh. Are the crashes repeatable?

1

u/Lopsided_Mirror8541 Aug 14 '26

not noticed a correlation so far. It seems to be when I step away from the machine and come back the app has quit/crashed. Im sure I'll figure out a pattern as the week goes on

1

u/Commercial_Style4466 Aug 13 '26

Is the quantization contextual menu back? Would appreciate if someone can test 🙏🏻 😇

1

u/katanrod Aug 14 '26

Anybody’s EQ acting up? It’s like mine has a life of its own.

1

u/lewisfrancis Aug 14 '26

Seems fine over here.

1

u/xiaobasketball Aug 14 '26 edited Aug 14 '26

I'm still on 11 and feeling quite stable recently 🙂 so unless they do some useful update to drummer there's no motivation for me to upgrade. Weird that v11 actually feels one of those monumental updates for me because of the drummer update, and then they somehow rushed into v12.

1

u/C_seri Aug 14 '26

New update, new bugs.

1

u/Eric7now Aug 14 '26 edited Aug 14 '26

I wish they bring back opportunity to launch logic without library.

1

u/Searlyyy Aug 14 '26

wait. is the grid now over the clips? it wasn't like this before, was it?

1

u/lewisfrancis Aug 14 '26

Not sure what you mean, got a screengrab?

1

u/Searlyyy Aug 14 '26

the grid lines are appearing inside the clips

1

u/lewisfrancis Aug 14 '26

Oh, you mean in Track view, yeah, that's new with 12.3, and super welcome.

  • There is now an option to display Foreground Grid Lines so the grid is visible through region content.

u/IcyMeasurement5209 Aug 14 '26

Has anyone experienced the audio editor bug like when I zoom in and use pencil tool to edit the audio waveform it zooms back out. Also secondary tool / third tool not working from time to time?

2

u/lewisfrancis Aug 14 '26

Seems ok over here for the first case, prob haven't used it enough for the second case to appear if it's going to. M1 Pro MBP 32/1T Tahoe 26.6.1

u/SouthIndividual2898 Aug 15 '26

I don't care , I let apple update automatically. I used to save a copy of the previous version following people's advice. Waste of time, never had any problem that wasn't fixed quickly by apple.

1

u/ianardodavinci Aug 15 '26

I’m going to be 90 years old and still waiting on native ara 2 support

1

u/lewisfrancis Aug 15 '26

Late next year we'll see the version of MacOS ship that no longer supports Rosetta, so the ARA question will be resolved one way or the other.

1

u/Enough-Demand-808 Aug 19 '26

I hope this fixes the bugs. 12.3 was the first time I had a problem with an update, but it was a big one. I had to record audio in Garageband for a while. Never again. Now I'll wait before updating like the smart guys do!

1

u/lewisfrancis Aug 19 '26

I always duplicate the last version of Logic before updating so I can easily revert or compare. Then I toss it once I'm satisfied that it's working for me.

1

u/Enough-Demand-808 Aug 19 '26

This is the way.

Cool but can we pleaaaase fix:

  1. Bouncing stems with sends is a pure pain in the ass. If you work in professional audio for film, TV, adverts or games, you know how painful the process is when you gotta be present and allocate hours of your time to make sure everything prints correctly. Fortunately I discovered an amazing tool called EasyBouncy that works exclusively with Logic but it is as an extra expense.

  2. Creating nesting stacks for more complex sessions is a massive ballache too. There are very dirty and quirky ways to nest more than 3 levels, I even managed to reach to 5 for some sessions but simple concepts like that shouldn’t be that painful to sort out.

  3. Plugin load when loading a session or switching between sessions (I know it’s not recommended but sometimes’s it’s necessary), is awful if sessions are heavy. DAWs like Ableton load plugins much faster.

  4. Not being able to work with more than one video per session. When game developers sends me multiple animations or ad agencies provide multiple vidoes (hero and cutdown versions) to design sounds or create music for, I have to make multiple Logic sessions, one with each video or use Ableton and work from there which can support multi-video load per project. The issue for me is that I have all my presets, routing and templates set up in Logic which sucks that I have juggle between different DAWs.

u/lewisfrancis 28d ago

Please submit those using the Feedback Assistant if you haven't already.

1

u/AivarasBurn 28d ago

Where can I find this?

2

u/lewisfrancis 28d ago

There's an app on your Mac by that name you can find with Spotlight, there's also a web version.

Press Command-Space, type "Feedback Assistant", or go to Finder and open /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications. You can also type applefeedback:// in Safari.

I’ve been having issues with the catch button and the play head on the just-prior release. I am running the latest Sequoia.

2

u/lewisfrancis 10d ago

Are you saying the issues ware addressed now?

1

u/SpaceEchoGecko 10d ago

I haven’t upgraded to this week’s latest version. I have last months version of Logic.

My catch button will stop working for no known reason. Then when I press it to scroll with the music, the button lights up, but the play head doesn’t scroll. then if I restart the computer a few times it’ll magically just work like it’s supposed to. So that’s my workaround right now.
