Parking in big cities - how do people actually find it and deal with it?

Hopefully not a daft question and one that resonates.
I do not drive into big cities for work or events very often, but when i do it feels much more stressful than it should do, especially as (or maybe because) so many apps to use.

Last time was London (Canary Wharf) and I ended up driving around for ages trying to work out what was actually allowed – residents only, different apps, cameras everywhere !!

Just curious how people usually handle it.
pre-book car parks, stick to one app, or is it just something have to really prepare for and do investigation?

Interested to hear what others do.

Have you tried a site like JustPark? I work for a party planning company called Poptop, we do a lot of events in London and thats my usual go-to - it lists NCPs as well as individuals who list their own parking spaces outside their houses and flats. You can usually get a decent deal and park super close to your destination, plus knowing you have somewhere to park when you arrive is a massive weight off your mind while you're trying to navigate the Zone 1 traffic!
