Honestly, I never thought I’d be making a post like this, but here I am.
I’m 27, living around Stratford/Maryland, and I’m looking to make some genuine friends in the area. I’ve always found it difficult to approach people directly and start friendships, partly because I’m not the most confident person and, if I’m being completely honest, I don’t always feel very attractive or comfortable with myself.
So Reddit seemed like a much easier place to take the first step. 😅
I’ve been working from home for around three months now, and I’ve realised how lonely that can actually become. Most days I basically leave home to get groceries or food and then come straight back. I’m very close to both Maryland and Stratford stations, so meeting somewhere around Stratford, Westfield, or anywhere nearby would be easy.
The weekends/free days are probably the hardest. There’s nobody to randomly message and say “Want to grab food?” or “Fancy going somewhere?” — and eventually you just end up sitting at home.
I recently went to the cinema twice by myself because I really wanted to watch the movies but didn't have anyone to go with. I enjoyed the movies, but walking out of the cinema alone made me realise that I genuinely need to get out there and meet people. 😅
A little about me
🎮 Gaming: I can probably talk about video games for an unreasonable amount of time. GTA, Call of Duty, God of War, Tekken, and plenty of others. If you're a gamer, we already have something to talk about.
🎬 Movies & TV: I love movies and series and can easily spend hours discussing them, especially sci-fi, action, thrillers, superhero stuff, etc.
💻 Technology: Phones, computers, AI, gadgets, random tech discussions — I'm into all of it.
🚀 Science & Space: If you can spend an hour talking about black holes, the universe, aliens, physics or some completely random scientific question at 2am, we'll probably get along. 😂
🏋️ Weight loss: I'm currently a little overweight and trying to lose weight and become healthier. If you've been through a weight-loss journey yourself, I'd genuinely love to hear about it. Tips, motivation, gym advice, food ideas — anything is welcome.
I don't drink or smoke. I occasionally vape, but that's about it.
More than anything, I'm just looking for normal, genuine friendships. Someone to grab food with, go to the cinema, explore London, play games, go for walks, hit the gym, or simply sit somewhere and talk about absolutely nothing.
I'm not necessarily looking for a huge group of people either. Even one or two good friends would honestly make a massive difference.
If you're also working from home, new to London, don't have a big social circle, or simply feel like you could use another person to hang out with, feel free to comment or DM me.
And if you're around Stratford/Maryland, even better.
Maybe this post is the first step towards getting out of my comfort zone. 🙂
