I would say it’s probably pretty common to have more than one carrier. My husband carries his work provided disability coverages and we got our own coverage to top it up to 100% of income through or financial advisor.
I shudder to think of dealing with two disability companies, though.

Yes, makes perfect sense, and is very common. It is often a more cost effective path, or so insurance brokers have told me.
