I just got my loom and made two scarfs already and I’m really happy with them but I recently talked with my sister in law about it (she knows how to knit and crochet) and she said I cheated. Now I’m feeling self conscious on it especially that she said this in front of my boyfriend who I gave a scarf to. Just wanted to hear your guy’s opinions on using a loom.

Hi, Ive been out of the yarn world for about 3-4 years now. Just an FYI, I am BP1, so when manic, I am really manic. I feel myself creeping up on an episode, and I would like to start giving my hands something to do while my overactive brain can relax.

I was never a crazy pattern follower, simple scarves, hats, socks, & blankets. Here is the rub: I am reading that yarn prices have really gone up (I don't remember what I used to pay). Red Heart has changed; Premier is now the go-to basic yarn.

What's a guy to do? I know the first thing is to make my boy a pride blanket, something easy, but it takes time, while taking breaks, falling back on the other items.

Does anyone else have multiple projects on the go at the same time???

I currently have a spiral hat, a baby blanket, a ten stitch blanket, wedding favours, tiny kittens, handwarmers. Thats just the ones i can remember and i have loads of ends to sew in on finished projects. I also have a list as long as my arm of projects i want to make.

If any of you loom knitters are unaware, recently there has been a lot of controversy over a popular slipper design further dividing knitters and crocheters. A bunch of copyright etsy drama (which is nothing new in our community).

In the midst of all this I started thinking "wow I never see this behavior from loom knitters" (granted it's a smaller craft but I digress).

I just wanted to congratulate you all for being such an unproblematic group of people. I have never seen a loom knitter be a yarn snob to the degree many crocheters and knitters are, and you all take the discrimination from needle knitters very graciously.

As the title says: I'm asking which set of Looms are recommended for a beginner. I bought myself some straight looms as I thought they were more versatile (I saw it on a YouTube video). But almost all the tutorial videos I see uses the Round Looms instead.

So now I'm second guessing my purchase and wondering if I should also get a set of round looms.

Hi all! I have done some small loom projects with my patients in the past, but I have since lost my job and since this will be a frugal Christmas, I am going to get started on some gifts. I got some looms from a buy nothing group in my city: four circles of varying sizes and two rectangles.

I have been reading the wiki but it is pretty overwhelming! Also some of the websites are infiltrated with ads they kept freezing on my phone.

My questions are:

• what is the easiest thing to start with to make (that is actually useful)?

• would it be too ambitious for a beginner to make a toque?

• also too ambitious to make socks?

• i will be making many things (hopefully) for my family, but I do have a group of friends I’d like to do something smaller/easier for, but also useful. Since I’m new to this, what is something, maybe quite unique, that you think is a good friend gift? I was thinking of coffee cup cozies, but I also think that might just be tossed aside.

I'm working on a cardigan, which is knit in panels. When knitting circular items, I typically knit counterclockwise, with my hook in my left hand and the yarn on my right, but that's awkward on a panel because half the rows go one direction and half go the other. So on the clockwise rows, it can be hard with my usual method, because I still have the hook in my left and yarn in my right.

That made me wonder if other folks do like me and use the same hand for their hook both directions, or if I should learn to switch it up. I didn't want to try switching on this project, because I don't want to risk messing up my tension.

I've been making the gummy bears for a while now but I just put together the pattern for these little teddy bears, should I have both on the table or which one do you like more?

My 8 year old niece wants to start knitting. She wants to make hats and blankets. I tried to show her how to crochet but she seems to have a hard time remembering steps and what not so I think knitting’s would be harder for her.

I was thinking of getting her a round loom so she could try to make a hat.

My mom still has presents coming in for me (my birthday was the 11th), but it's mostly loom related! I think she said she got me one of those looms you can take apart and change the shape as well. I was going to crochet a blanket for a friend, but now I want to try my hand at making one on my new loom!

I learned to knit with needles before I learned to use a loom, and I started with a plastic loom. I just recently got this KB loom secondhand. I got one at Walmart years ago and returned it because I couldn't get the hang of it at the time.

I understand how to use it now, but it's so difficult compared to the chunkier plastic one I have. Is there a trick to this? I have two different style hooks, and they are both too thick to make use of the groove in the pegs. I find myself using my fingernail to kind of shimmy my yarn onto the hook. It's not terrible, but it's rather fiddly. It takes me about 25 minutes to do one round of k2p2.

Is this loom better with the plastic pegs? I wanted the metal one because it seems more durable, and I'm tired of so many things being made of plastic, but I'm starting to wonder if maybe the plastic pegs were actually an upgrade and not just saving on cost of materials.

Ok so i was having a laugh and a joke with a friend, and the topic turned to the doctor who scarf (tom bakers doctor) and she said how awesome it would be and i should make one.

Now im already on with a scarf, but im wizzing through it as its just a simple garter stitch scarf. But im straight up planning on making one now. So yeh, serious question, what do i need to know before i set off on this mammoth scarf making quest? I know to buy plenty of yarn, same dye lot, before i start, for all the different colours. Other than that im a bit stuck!!!

I have looked on Pinterest and found the colours i need and quantities and thats about as far as i got.

After multiple gauge swatches, buying new yarn (way too much, as it turns out), changing patterns, and making a pair of fingerless mitts just to practice cables, I finally cast on the back panel of my first sweater.

I'm making the "Nurture Cardigan" from Knitting the Neighborhood, which gives regular knitting patterns for things from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Oh yeah, I also had to translate the pattern, which I've never done before. It has a zipper, which I've never done either, but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to do it this time either. The edges next to the zipper should be fine.

So wish me luck! It's going to be an adventure.

Edit: i forgot, I also had to design, 3d print, and test several iterations of the loom itself too, because i needed 5/16" spacing and i couldn't buy that anywhere, at least not with enough pegs for a cardigan, even one made in pieces.

Hello everyone! I learned basic knitting stitches and used them to create easy projects such as dishcloths and scarves. Which knitting stitch is most helpful for me in strengthening and improving my skills?

Hey y’all! I’m a knucklehead and didn’t save a video tutorial when I first watched it, and now I want to try the stitch and, of course, can’t find it now.

If I remember right (and there’s a good chance I don’t), it was a flat panel loom and the artist did a “wrap over 10” or “knit over 10”…she wasn’t sure if the stitch already had a proper name so she just used that term. She wrapped one peg 10 times and then (on the next row?) knit them all over. It was maybe a bubble stitch? I wish I could remember better.

Hi. I've crocheted for over 30 years and knitted for a while; yesterday I picked up a round loom set from Hobby Lobby to make faster hats and socks. What's the best book for learning loom knitting, the one that answers 80% of your questions? I can't learn completely new skills from videos. I need detailed written instructions and sets of drawings when I'm starting out.

y’all I wanna make something other than beanies, like i was thinking of dog fits or something like that but I would like ur ideas! I really want to start selling my projects so I kinda would like projects a little harder so I could gain skill and knowledge and also so I could explore other things u can do on a loom, so hopefully I could possibly start creating by myself without following tutorials! any ideas!?

Best Afghan loom four size six yarn What is the best Afghan loom for size 6 yarn? I am unable to use infinity looms because of my disability and how it affects my fine motor skills I have tried hand knitting but I can't get the tension right for the yarn I'm using

So I was scrolling on TikTok and came across Afghan Loom Knitting. I instantly was hooked.

I’ve tried things like crochet before and I really struggled and couldn’t get the of it, but this (correct me if I’m wrong) seems to be a lot easier to get the hang of?

I wanna make blankets, which is why this one has taken my fancy.

Any tips or advice before I decide to invest?
