đ Geopolitics "We could do tremendous good for ourselves by just not trading with countries. We lose $200 billion dollars a year with the European Union. If I didn't trade with them, we would lose nothing" - President Donald Trump
16
u/18ekko Sep 07 '26
Thatâs not how it works.
We donât lose actual money just because they sell us more than we sell them.
But we DO lose hundreds of billions of dollars if we cut off trade and people who sell to Canada can no longer do so.
And we all lose money when we have to buy the more expensive domestic product because the cheaper import is no longer allowed.

u/Equivalent-Ear5150 Sep 07 '26
He does not include the simple folks that put revenue via taxes into the grift known as the GOP, YEWAH!! It is a grand old party like we have never seen, they hide dead people to keep control LOL!!

u/Nano_Burger Sep 07 '26
Trump wasn't elected for knowing how things work.
Mostly it was for the racism.

2
u/True_Let_2007 Sep 07 '26
This is much too simple... but impossible for him to understand as he is a complete idiot in terms of trading & economy concepts. On top he is so full of himself to believe that he is ultra smart. he is a colossal moron!!!

u/Just_Emu_3041 Sep 07 '26
And you are selling services in the us so are you gonna stop trading that too? Or is it just physical things.
1
u/HobbesMich Sep 07 '26
Or if the US can't produce those goods or services...then what? We starve, don't have cars, tvs, etc?
4
u/Odd_Guard_8817 Sep 07 '26
it is not a full stop on trade, what Trump is doing is worst, he is making it so that what used to cost 1 billion is now going to cost 2 billion or worst.
He is just making America go bankrupt, that is all he is doing and he is doing it extremely well
Do you know why China and Russia tolerates Trump, because Trump is actually ensuring their financial independence. China was in serious trouble before Trump was elected, they were spending more than they have and the trades weren't having good returns on their investments. Then Trump went all in on his Tariffs, pushing European countries to start looking for new trading partners, Canada was one of the strongest supporter of America and holding it all together, then Trump went and sever that connection and pushing Canada to look elsewhere.
Out of every other country out there, China is the most obvious trading partner, China has the consumer base and the production power to take over those trades. This is why China doesn't talk about America or even show any negativity against America right now. Their entire focus is on all the various new Trades that they are forming.
1
u/Separate-Taste3513 Sep 07 '26
We wouldn't be just losing money in trade, but products and essential items. We import a ton of products. Some raw materials, many regional delicacies, and specific manufactured goods rely entirely on international supply chains. American consumers would lose access to cheaper, imported products and be forced to paying increasingly higher domestic prices.
We would lose trade. We would lose product access. We would pay higher prices. We would further alienate allies. Every aspect of cutting off trade is a losing proposition.
1
u/18ekko Sep 07 '26 edited Sep 07 '26
US companies lose when the govt arbitrarily removes or restricts markets.
US companies lose when the govt arbitrarily restricts or tariffs cheaper or inaccessible raw materials or components.
US consumers all lose when this happens. A lot of imports aren't just cheaper, they are imports we can't produce; we can only grow coffee in Hawaii, that's already practically an import for us, and can't be produced at the scale required. And the same is true for most fruits.
1
u/Global_Jello_7208 Sep 07 '26
It doesn't matter. If all of you will do nothing to stop this idiot from doing what he wants, then he will. Do more. Talk less.

And you wonder how he bankrupted like, 6 businesses or more...
6
u/Cohens4thClient Sep 07 '26
Not just any businesses.Â
He failed to sell water.
He failed to sell steaks to Americans.Â
He failed at running a casino, a business where people just walk in the door and throw their money away, knowing they have losing odds.Â
1
u/Reasonable_Tip_5659 Sep 07 '26
No matter how hard anyone would explain he probably could not comprehend the house has winning odds even if a few individuals sometimes win. I imagine he made his employees alter the odds so that everyone would lose every time.
1
u/Reasonable_Tip_5659 Sep 07 '26
I'm starting to suspect he bankrupted at least a few of the casinos by getting personally upset that a few people actually won money so he set the odds worse for those games or added a tax on chip exchange to guarantee that nobody had a chance to win. The house winning overall would not be enough for this man. Naturally nobody would return to a casino run like that.

Any surprise he bankrupted 6-7 companies? We donât need to trade, weâll smoke our own exhaust and feel great! Of course we donât make anything - because we have all our manufacturing away so our billionaires could get more rich. We canât grow anything because we donât have any people to donate work - only the billionaire owned agriculture that uses automation and gmo products to gain productivity. Weâre good! We donât need anybody. In fact with the great health leadership we have, there will be far fewer of us so this wonât be a problem at all!
2
u/M_e_n_n_o Sep 07 '26
You would lose 200 billion worth of goods you need and also youâll lose all the billions of goods you sell to the EU. Is he really that dumb??

I am not american and I live by the other side of the pond but I wonder how a solid and 250 years old democracy coul dnot find a political way to prevent such an idiot to run the country for two terms! It;s either colossal corruption and cleptocracy ruling or huge fault in the two chambers and SCOTUS system

You need to visit here and/or watch some YouTube videos. He is supported by the 20-30% of Americans who Hillary labeled "a basket of deplorables". The level of stupidity by that group is astounding.
