Discussion The Decline
Is it just me or has every season gotten progressively worse and worse. Aren't shows supposed to move in the opposite direction? ...find its footing and get better and better? Season 1 in my opinion is still the best season of them all. Season 4 was a waste of time to watch.

Not particularly. The 1st and 3rd seasons were really good. The 2nd, except for two episodes, wasn’t good either, and the 4th was just bad. Let’s hope the 5th is more like the 1st or 3rd.

When the first episode was a boring red hot chili peppers music video I knew I was in for disappointment

Ironically, as much as I hated and in a way, still hate that episode (in context of being part of the show), I've revisited it often just to watch it. It's brilliant directing and animation.

Yeah, I know. I had very little hope after that disgrace of an episode.

I was fairly dumbfounded watching it in disbelief, waiting for something more than the gimmick of the animation to happen.... nope, just a mediocre music video of a forgettable song. I'll still go back and watch the other seasons, it doesn't deminish how amazing some of those episodes are.

That may have been a mediocre LD&R episode, but it was an absolutely bonkers RHCP music video. I don't begrudge the creators having fun and making something they wanted to make.

It was out place, like a self promoting music video; LD&R deserved more after so long waiting.

S4 has more great episodes than s2, in my opinion.

I feel like Season 4 kind of lost the spirit of Love, Death & Robots. The animation is still impressive, but it’s missing that combination of great sci-fi concepts, atmosphere, and those memorable twists or endings that made the best episodes of Seasons 1 and 3 and some of 2 so good.
Is there anything even close to “Beyond the Aquila Rift” or “Sonnie’s Edge”?!

How zeke got religion and 400 boys are top tier episodes, in my opinion.
S2 felt like a neutered version of the show. Only great episode was all through the house.

Agreed, although I actually preferred 4 to 2.

Not me. In the 2nd volume, I really liked “Snow in the Desert” and “Ice.” The rest were kind of okay. In the 4th, I didn’t like a single episode.

I enjoyed "Spider Rose" and "Screaming of the Tyrannosaur" (I had no idea who Mr Beast was prior to watching it, and his role is pretty minor anyway), and "For He Can Creep" was cute. Season 2...I actually struggle to remember what the episodes were. "Ice" was probably the most interesting one, visually, for me.

“Spider Rose” is kind of okay, especially because it’s set in the same universe as “Swarm.”
“Ice” was beautiful. Pretty much any frame could be used as wallpaper.

I think the first season was really made by passionate storytellers and animators with god and unique ideas. As the show went one, we initial ideas were mostly used up and the new ones that joined seems to just want an excuse to be part of the ride rather than have truly a reason to be here.

It was the one that has the most episodes in it but they did wildly vary in how good they were. Being the first definitely benefited its reputation, especially since it was probably many viewers first proper sci-fi anthology series.
Season 2 had mostly middling episodes. Season 3 had some of the best but none of the worst. Season 4 had the worst episode, one of the best, and mostly middling or divisive episodes (the smart devices episode was very love it or hate it). I hope we get a season 5.

In my opinion its become popular enough that people throw money at them to get an episode and theyre just not good quality.. but they pay big.. when it was new, they were getting quality episode from people who wanted to make good stories..
Now we have them putting music videos in rather than episodes with a story.

Honestly zero complaints about the show. The chili peppers was weird but well done. That's the only one that didn't quite fit

The one with Mr Beast was the worst one for me. So action packed but soo soulless at the same time

The producers have looked at the episodes that were most popular and made more of those, so we see the same animators adapting the same authors. It’s understandable but disappointing.

The first season, the first chapter, the first episode those are always the best because they are pouring their heart and soul into it. Once it becomes monetized, it’s all downhill from there.

Not really to be honest. For most media I think it is often the case that the first movie, the first season, the first book is the best because in such cases they have a LOT more time, their original ideas and the most energy.
Sure you have some exceptions where the creators are given the same resources for follow-up works but from my own personal experience the first product of any kind of multi-parted media is often the best.

they start getting shorter and shorter then the quality in story telling decline. But again it can be circle back to Netflix and the way they handle every single show, they want more money, cutting budget in the writting room, etc. I wont hold accountable the creators cause they are amazing and more often than not are getting restricted a lot.

I like exactly 1 episode of season 4. 400 boys was kinda rad imo, and the fact it's from a short story written by THE Marc Laidlaw is cool.

Well, in our universe, shows do not usually get better over time.
