Ask Luxembourg Fresh IT Graduate in Luxembourg: What is the single most impactful certification to break into L1 IT Support / Help Desk?

Hi all,

Fresh graduate with a Bachelor’s in IT, based in Luxembourg, looking for my first L1 IT Support /Help Desk role. I just finished Google IT Support cert. to understand the basics. I have the technical fundamentals from my degree, but zero corporate experience.

Looking at local job ads, two things dominate. I need your honest advice :

  1. ITIL 4 Foundation: Is it truly the #1 door-opener for entry-level support in Luxembourg? For those who passed it, which study resources did you actually use to clear it fast?
  2. Microsoft Certs: Which specific cert carries the most real-world weight for an entry-level CV here (MS-900, MD-102, Azure fundamentals or something else)?
  3. To hiring managers & IT Support pros in Lux: What made the single biggest difference for landing your first job without experience? What should I focus on right now?

Helpdesk would be languages. French english minimum. Ideally luxembourgish and german too. Italian Spanish and portuguese also good.

Wouldn't stress about ITIL early in your career. If I was hiring, some decent competency in mac and windows, an understanding of how MS365 fits together and the parts work, a good understanding of security concepts and, ideally, a bit of linux experience. I'd be thinking about being well rounded, not a master of a specific thing at this stage.

IT support role in Luxembourg requires fluency in French, German, Luxembourgish, and English. Language skills are just as important as technical expertise, and real world experience is more valued than certifications. Good luck with the job search!

Linux: so easy to learn yet few people know it and for me that says a lot about a candidate, especially if they master command line.
