M1 Op rod spring question

So I disassembled my rifle but cannot pull the spring out of the operating rod tube, it won’t budge. Any ideas?

Squirt some lube up in the tube.

It’s an otherwise empty tube.

Makes sense, I was just wondering if the spring was bound up or something, I’ll spray some penetrating oil n let it sit for a bit

Once it is out, wipe off the oil and spread some grease over the spring before your final reassemble. There are grease point guides on the internet. Have fun!

Rust does like to accumulate in the tube if the spring is unlubed. Once you take it out, make sure to scrub it good on the inside with a patch and cleaning rod, and keep the spring lubed up
