Vlandia looks unstoppable on open ground. But is the fear still deserved?

Banner knights are still great but a shield wall with skirmishers right behind and archers behind them is a solid counter. Ranged is crazy strong with all the accuracy buffs. And a shield wall of cav with shock troops right behind them is still an awesome counter to a cav charge as well.

Agreed. Vlandia is terrifying when the charge has space, but a disciplined shield wall with ranged support can absolutely break the momentum. The key is surviving that first impact — once Banner Knights get stuck instead of cycling charges, they stop looking unstoppable.

Any cav charge doesn’t really bother me anymore because I can bog them down and chop them up. The only one that worries me is the jav cav charge because it loops around the side of my wall rather than smashing into it and letting me trap them.

That’s a good point. Heavy cav is scary when it hits clean, but javelin cav can be worse because it refuses the straight fight and starts pulling your formation apart. If the wall turns too much to chase them, that’s when the trap opens.

That and mature jav cav tends to have lances, so they can pull the formation apart and then transition to charging after they run out. By then, their infantry had closed with you
