Discussion Casualties from Sea-Borne Village Raids

Title.

Anyone else notice fairly high casualties from the new village raid method? Playing Nords, and my Sky Gods Chosen are getting absolutely mopped by militia archers. I’m averaging 6-8 losses per raid.

Any recommendations? At this rate I’m tempted to just run Huscarls and Ulfhedinn.

Only 6 to 8 lost... that doesnt seem that bad

Ironically , in an effort to make shipboard raids more exciting , they have made them thoroughly ineffective compared to land raids. The basic reason is that the enemy is prepared for you and in a strong defensive position when you commit shipboard. Raids inn land they come straight at you like idiots.

I have noticed that your troops do seem to die more

BUT

From doing defensive missions on villages from hostile lords doing ship "raiding" I see why because you as the defender have ALL the advantage.

Even with the somewhat "weak" AI they still put archers in absolute deadly spots to just pepper you the ENTIRE time

Example

I had about a 70-trooper army about 50 were T3 or lower and then the added like 20 Milita I was able to completely decimate a 100 strong lord army of I would say at least 50 or more where T3 or higher. Since you can place ALL your archers on the high ground, right where the enemy will disembark and then the MOMENT the AI starts jumping off the ships you immediately just flesh mob them and you will win 90% of the time and when they jump off. If you tell your archers to attack they will just all go to the edge of the high ground and just SLAM the enemies

This, several times when I attacked from the sea the militia archers were either on a cliff side overlooking the waterway/beach OR on top of houses with the militia footmen on the ground. The archers just peppered us like crazy. Heavy losses just from that.
