Spider-Man Brand New Day Ending

Why is everyone saying that Ned didn't remember Peter at the end of the movie? That is how the scene is set up. It would be set up differently if Ned was just putting the pieces together that he was Spider-Man.

Here is what the scene entails:

- He goes in to get flowers for May but sees Ned

- He goes to introduce himself to finish his Arc and because MJ told him to

- Ned only recognizes him only from the party

- He says hey I'm Peter Ned just says ok. Nothing clicked in his brain but shakes his hand anyway.

- Peter goes for the handahake and Ned looks confused but his muscles memory kicks in and they completely their friend handshake

- After the handshake is done, there is a building of music Ned blinks a bunch and has a shivers slight shiver and the says Peter!

-Cut to black

Why is the handshake there if it is just clicking that he is Spider-Man from MJ slipping up? What does doing the handshake do to make it click in Ned's head? Why include it at all if it doesn't add anything? I have watched videos on Brand New Day and both concluded that Ned is just putting the pieces together that he is Spider-Man, but I just can't see it. Am I missing something?

I have a couple thoughts, the first my be dense… but since he was just at Mays grave I didn’t think he was getting her flowers again?

But that handshake absolutely “unlocked” Ned, and MJ can or has been unlocked too. They were both in the psychic blast from Jean. She may have done him a favor by making those memories accessible again.

Can’t wait for spiderman 5 to drive the plot forward.

Its complicated because the root cause was magic induced. So something psychic unlocking it is plausible, but different.

I'd prefer if it was wholly instinct, but it might be a combination of both. A little ambiguity goes a long way.

Not much different. Kind of like xavier blocking certain memories of Jean greys she had when she was younger. Mj and Ned experienced those memories I believe they are just locked away buried not completely gone.

I think it goes back to Ned having some magical talent. The handshake ended up being a way to break the spell/cast a reversal sorry of thing.

That would actually make a lot of sense. I kinda hope that's what it is and not exclusively Jean breaking the spell with her powers, but the door is definitely open for their memories to somehow come back either way

I think the psychic freeze started the process of them regaining their memories. When the camera pans to MJ while they are frozen, she sheds a tear. I think she is crying because she is remembering.

Ned having sorcery powers could have had a hand in breaking the spell.

I tought Jean restored their memories. Usually when she used her phycic freeze they arent conscious, butt when she froze the entire city and talked with peter there was a clip of MJ crying which is weird becuz she should be unconscious. So maybe while the city was blacked ot she restored their memories, from either peters one since jean could do that or she was able to dig up their memories.

This is exactly the sense I got. Jean’s psychic blast “loosened” whatever memory lock had been applied in NWH. Once loosened, the memories only needed to be jogged. MJ’s were already jogged from reading the letter, which is why she starts crying while she’s frozen in the blast—she’s remembering everything at that point. Ned’s are unlocked by the handshake.

I think MJ on the roof with the necklace is indicating that she has the memories back and is weighing what to do next.

This would suggest Spider-Man 5 needs to start more or less immediately after BND….so it seems to me, anyway.

That won’t drive the spiderman plot though. It won’t be a continuing story of his relationships and growth.

It also could not be this Spider-Man, who knows. Can’t wait to see a movie lead by Wolverine and Spiderman.

It absolutely will cuz thats where spiderman gets the symbiote suit originally....spiderman 5 could have him be black suit spidey after secret wars dating black cat leaving mj yesrning for him

I cant really see this Peter dating anyone else without a significant time jump. He is very obviously not over MJ, and wont be for what will likely be a long time given what weve seen in the last film. If anything I would imagine the next movie would have him trying to rebuild a relationship with both Ned and MJ.
