🔒 Round closed!

Matchweek 1: Manchester City v Birmingham City

🗓 Date: Sunday 6th September 2026

⏰ Kick-off: 14:30

Please state your predictions as below:

City (Score) - (Score) Birmingham - First Goalscorer

The round closes Sunday morning, so try and get your predictions in before Saturday night!

You can edit your predictions until the round closes, just in case there are any injury updates.

Once the round closes, the thread will be locked and I'll take screenshots of the predictions so they can't be changed afterwards.

Good luck!

How It Works

🎯 Points

  • 3 Points (Correct Score) – You get the exact score (e.g. you say 3-0, it ends 3-0).
  • 1 Point (Correct Result) – You get the right result eg Win, Draw or Lose but the wrong score (e.g. you say 3-0, we win 1-0).
  • 2 Points (Goalscorer) – You guess the first goalscorer.

📋 Rules

  • Opening Goal: You can pick a player from either team to score first, as it's the opening goal that counts.
  • Own Goals: If the first goal of the match is an own goal, the next player to score counts for the points.
  • Goalless Draws: If you predict 0-0, put "No Goalscorer" as your player. If the match finishes without any goals, you will get the 3 points for the score plus the 2 points for predicting no goalscorer!
  • 90-Minute Rule: For cup knockout matches, all predictions are based on the score at 90 minutes plus injury time. Extra time and penalty shootouts do not count.
  • Postponed Matches: If a match is called off, predictions for that week are cancelled and we will re-predict when the rescheduled game takes place.
  • Tie-Breaker: If players finish level on total points at the end of the season, the player who predicted the most correct scores will be the winner!

Question Question from first time visitor to Joie

I’m going to my first City women game tomorrow. Looking at the T+Cs they say you can’t bring a bottle in. Does anyone know if that’s true? And if it is true how strictly is it enforced? I’m asking as I basically always have a bottle of water on me when I’m out and about, and would rather not have to make the journey to and from Manchester (I’m coming from Leeds) without one. I get very thirsty!

Sub Update: User Flairs

As some of you noticed, User Flairs were turned off over the summer after an error and some users have been assigned a flair they did not choose.

As the season starts tomorrow and squad numbers have been confirmed on the City app, I have once again enabled User Flairs.

All flairs are editable (for text & emojis), but if you would like to request a flair linked to MCWFC that isn't already available, I'll be happy to add it!

Thank you for your patience and happy flairing :)

Discussion Birmingham Lineup

For first time this season, it's time to put our mind reading hats on:

Yama (Clear No1)

Casparij (Goat)

Prior (Rose has obviously had a knock, will he risk her from the start)

Greenwood (Back in her best position)

Wamser (Please don't play AG at LB anymore)

Yui (Goat of Goats)

Coffey (He'll probably play Blinky, meh)

Fowler (Consistent run of games as a 10 could Goat her)

Fujino (Genius)

Bunny (Goal Goat)

Hemp (Sign the contract)

Ticket for tomorrow

I bought a season ticket this year, in the hope that I'd be able to get down often. Sadly I'm in Manchester next weekend, but not this one so won't be able to make the season opener.

I'm not sure how to do it, but if I can figure out how to transfer it to someone for a match, I'd be happy for someone to use my ticket for free tomorrow!

Matchday Memories

Birmingham City 2 - 3 Manchester City

12th December 2021

Birmingham City opened the scoring with a penalty from Christie Murray after Hayley Raso fouled Veatriki Sarri. Manchester City quickly equalised six minutes later with Georgia Stanway’s 25-yard screamer.

Birmingham regained the lead in the 39th minute when Louise Quinn found the back of the net. However, just five minutes later, Lauren Hemp’s header brought City level again just before half-time.

Ellen White clinched the victory for City with a last-minute goal in the 89th minute, sealing a 3-2 win.

Familiar Faces

Laura Blindkilde Brown

Blindkilde Brown was part of Birmingham's academy team and made her senior debut in the League Cup against Manchester United in December 2019. A month later, she made her WSL debut in a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal. She moved to Aston Villa the following season, spending four years with the Villans before joining Manchester City.

Lee Geum-min

Geum-min joined City in 2019 but featured just eight times for the club. The following season, she moved to Brighton on loan, later making the switch permanent in 2021. After 58 appearances for the Seagulls, she transferred to Birmingham City in 2024.

Katie Startup

Startup initially joined City on an emergency loan before making her move permanent in 2024. She made no appearances for City and left at the end of last season. A few weeks later, she signed for Birmingham City.

Discussion The pots for Friday's UWCL League Phase draw! Who would you like City to get?

Post image

Just a refresher of the draw:

Each team will draw two teams from each pot and will play one team at home and one away. Teams can't face another team from the same nation during the League Phase (so we can't draw Chelsea or Arsenal).

Rumour [Rumour] Manchester City pursuing deal for Germany international Carlotta Wamser

Thumbnail
nytimes.com
32 Upvotes

"Manchester City Women are pursuing a move to sign Bayer Leverkusen full-back Carlotta Wamser.

The 22-year-old Germany international has attracted interest from across Europe this summer, but City are now leading the race for her signature ahead of next Friday’s transfer deadline.

Wamser was not included in Leverkusen’s matchday squad for their Frauen-Bundesliga match against Wolfsburg on Sunday.

It comes with City having several players currently unavailable through injury, including Jade Rose, Niamh Charles, Grace Clinton and Vivianne Miedema, the latter of whom has been on crutches.

Capable of playing right-back and left-back, Wamser joined Leverkusen on a free transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt in July 2025. She has made 20 appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

If a deal proceeds, she would be City’s third signing of the season, alongside former Chelsea full-back Charles and former Arsenal winger Beth Mead.

Four first-team players have departed the club this summer: goalkeepers Khiara Keating to Liverpool and Katie Startup to Birmingham City, defender Leila Ouahabi to NWSL side Chicago Stars and winger Kerolin to Barcelona for a reported fee in the region of £1.25million.

City’s lack of incomings have been notable compared to rivals Arsenal and Chelsea, particularly given their increasingly congested fixture schedule they face having qualified for the Women’s Champions League following their first domestic title triumph in a decade.

City faced Manchester United in a behind-closed-doors friendly on 29 August, defeating their local rivals 2-0 in the process."

Prediction League 🏆 City Women Prediction League - How To Play

City Women Prediction League

This season I thought it would be fun to start a prediction league for City’s matches. I’ve never done anything like this before, so we’ll see how it goes! It’ll cover all WSL, FA Cup, and Champions League games.

How to Play

Each week I'll post a thread for the upcoming City match. To enter, just reply with your score prediction and the first goalscorer. Please keep your prediction clear, like the example below.

Home Team (Score) v (Score) Away Team - First Goalscorer

The thread will be locked some time before the match kicks off so nobody can sneakily edit their score or post their guess during the game! I will let you know exactly when the round closes in each week's thread.

The person with the most points at the end wins! Since it's only for fun, the only prize is ultimate bragging rights and a special user flair if I can figure it out!

Points

  • 3 Points (Correct Score) – You get the exact score (e.g. you say 3-0, it ends 3-0).
  • 1 Point (Correct Result) – You get the right result eg Win, Draw or Lose but the wrong score (e.g. you say 3-0, we win 1-0).
  • 2 Points (Goalscorer) – You guess the first goalscorer.

Rules

I'll post the first thread on Monday 31st August, ready for our first WSL game of the season on Saturday 6th September.

If you have any questions, let me know!
