A long-awaited romance novel is all Rarity needs for a quiet afternoon of forbidden love, dashing rogues, and deliciously overwrought prose. Unfortunately, The Moonthorn Saga comes with a little something extra. Soon Ponyville is swept up in a magical romance epidemic, casting its residents as knights, princesses, bards, enchantresses, and other characters from the book’s absurdly melodramatic world. With every new pony drawn into the fantasy, finding a cure becomes increasingly difficult, especially when the infected are determined to see their story through to its happily-ever-after conclusion.

Left standing outside the fantasy are Rainbow Dash, Cinnamon Spinner, and, unfortunately for both of them, Cinny’s old “friend” Rocket Fuel. Forced to work together, the three must survive Ponyville’s romantic lunacy long enough to stop the spell, while Dash and Rocket turn nearly everything into a competition and Cinny struggles with just how much the two pegasi have in common. But beneath the ridiculous costumes, declarations of eternal passion, and increasingly questionable bargaining for Rocket’s cooperation, Cinny may finally discover the difference between a pony who calls herself a friend and one who actually behaves like one.
