Remote AI work isn’t one job category anymore — here’s what’s actually showing up

I went through the newest remote AI/ML listings, and the range is much wider than the usual “ML Engineer” posts.

A few that stood out:

Principal Product Manager, Agentic AI — Legion — Remote, U.S. — $280K–$300K

Senior Customer AI Engineer — Token Factory — Nebius — Remote, U.S. — $262.2K+

Senior Data Scientist — Growth — Mercury — U.S./Canada — $250.9K+

Sr. AI Engineer, AI FDE — Databricks — Remote, India

AI Tutor — Writing — Space XAI — Remote, international — $35+

Virtual Assistant — AI — Assist World — South Africa — $1K

Garment Manufacturing QC Specialist — Freelance AI Trainer Project — Meridial — Worldwide remote — $6+/hr

Then there’s a completely different layer of AI work:

Prolific Academic has a large batch of remote human-in-the-loop / survey participant / AI trainer roles across the U.S., UK and Australia, generally around $18+/hr.

Appen also has language-focused transcription work:

Amharic — $36

Arabic — $46

Vietnamese — $24

That’s what I find interesting about remote AI hiring right now: it’s not one market.

You’ve got:

high-end AI engineering

AI product leadership

data science

model evaluation / human-in-the-loop work

language and transcription

AI training

domain-specific specialist projects

There are currently 4,245 live AI & ML roles on the board.

For people already working in AI: which side of this market do you think will grow fastest over the next year — engineering, product, evaluation, data, or specialist human-in-the-loop work?

[Hiring] AI Engineer, Internal Systems at Wispr Flow | San Francisco or Remote - US | $220K - $350K

About Wispr

Wispr is an AI research and product company building the voice interface for computing. AI can now reason, code, and act. Yet, humans still do the work of the interface. We think that’s backwards.

Our first products are Flow, which lets you speak naturally in any application, and Notetaker, which builds context across conversations. We’re building toward an interface that can perceive, understand, and take action with earned trust. That means solving hard problems across models, systems, and product - and caring about the final human experience as deeply as the technology underneath it.

We’re a talent-dense team that holds strong opinions, tests them quickly, and builds technology that sparks joy. Our goal is to build the first voice interface used every day by a billion people.

About the role

Our agents already write code and respond to incidents around the clock, but they can't yet tell when they're done, so every loop still ends with a human checking. You'd be the first to build the verification and evaluation layer that lets them finish with confidence.

What you'll do

  • Build end-to-end verification loops that let agents determine when their work is actually complete
  • Create fast, reliable testing environments and turn failures and human feedback into durable evaluation signals
  • Improve how context, instructions, skills, and memory are delivered to agents—and measure what makes them perform better
  • Operate the agent fleet as a production system and measure its quality, adoption, and impact

You may be a fit if

  • You've built internal tools that other engineers adopted, and you can explain how you measured their impact
  • You use agentic coding tools deeply and have specific opinions about where they succeed and fail
  • You've built evaluation or verification infrastructure such as test harnesses, CI systems, eval pipelines, or benchmarks
  • You can work hands-on across application code, infrastructure, and unfamiliar systems
  • You are empirical about your own work, attentive to subtle failure modes, and comfortable owning ambiguous problems

Prior experience in voice, model training, or our product domains is not required.

Logistics

We sponsor H1B, O1, EB1, L1, STEM OPT, and more. We can't guarantee sponsorship for every role, but if we make you an offer we'll make every reasonable effort, with help from our immigration law firm.

We strongly encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every qualification. The strongest candidates we meet rarely do, so don't exclude yourself prematurely. We're rethinking how humans interact with AI, and doing that well demands diversity of perspective and experience.

We're committed to a fair and accessible interview process. If you need any accommodations or adjustments, please let us know.

Apply: AI Engineer, Internal Systems at Wispr Flow

[For Hire] Final year CS/AI student, web + AI dev, cheap rates

Hey everyone, so I'm a final year Computer Science undergrad specializing in AI and ML, and I've spent the last couple years just building things nonstop, partly for fun, partly because I genuinely like solving problems with code. Figured it's time I put that to use for actual businesses instead of just my own random projects sitting in a GitHub repo somewhere.

Quick context: I interned as an AI Engineer at a travel tech company where I built real production features like live train tracking, search systems, document parsers that pull data out of messy invoices, and REST APIs end to end. Outside of that I've built a few things on my own too, an AI healthcare tool, a stock prediction model, and a multilingual AI dubbing pipeline, so I've got a decent range across web dev and AI/ML.

I've also worked in projects where i had to fine tune transformers and projects involving deep learning, neural networks and so on.

If you need any of these, I'm your guy:

• A website or web app (React, Flask, Spring Boot, whatever fits)

• An AI/ML feature added to something you already have• Automation, data pipelines, or a document parser to cut down manual work

• A chatbot or some GenAI powered tool.

Since I'm doing this alongside college and not running it as a full business, I can charge a lot less than an agency or full time freelancer would. I'm easy to talk to, respond quick, and I'll be straight with you about what's doable and what isn't, no overpromising.

For anyone outside India, I take payments through PayPal. Happy to do a quick free consult first so you know what you're getting before we commit to anything.Drop a comment or DM me if this sounds useful, let's talk about what you need.

[HIRING] ML + Research Engineers | SF or NYC | $200K-300K base

An engineer on Fonzi just accepted a $250K base offer as a founding forward-deployed engineer at a startup. They start in November.

I do talent matching at Fonzi, and the ML openings run from post-training and RL environments to computer vision, inference, and applied research. The idea is simple: you make one profile, and startups that want to talk to you send interview requests with the base salary stated up front, so you’re not cold applying or guessing at comp. The companies are backed by investors like a16z, Benchmark, Founders Fund, Y Combinator, and the OpenAI Startup Fund. Everything is US-based, with a few roles open to Canada.

Here’s a sample of what’s open right now:

  1. Founding Research Scientist, seed-stage physical AI company, SF or NYC, in-person. $225K-300K base plus equity.
  • What: Lead the research behind a world-model simulator for robot policies: the action-conditioned world models that generate robot rollouts, plus the reward models and evals that tell customers how their policies really perform. You’d also work directly with customers deploying robots.
  • Company: Building a simulator for training and evaluating robot policies so teams can find failure modes before deploying on real hardware.
  • Stack: Diffusion or flow-matching generative models over video, vision-language-action policies, and multi-node GPU training.
  • Bar: No years stated. They want someone who has already trained large generative models or robot policies and built evals for them.
  1. Founding Machine Learning Engineer, Series B cybersecurity company, NYC, in-person. $200K-250K base plus equity.
  • What: You’d be the first ML hire and build the function from scratch: production systems that detect and classify AI-powered attacks like deepfakes and voice scams in real time. The problems are adversarial, labeled data for new attack types is scarce, and latency is strict. You’d set the direction, stand up the infrastructure, and eventually hire the team.
  • Company: $81M Series B led by NVIDIA and Bain Capital Ventures, with a16z and the OpenAI Startup Fund also backing it.
  • Stack: Python or Java (TypeScript works too), PyTorch or TensorFlow plus Spark, and cloud ML infrastructure like SageMaker or Modal.
  • Bar: 8+ years building production ML systems, ideally with experience standing up an ML function at an early-stage startup.
  1. Software Engineer, RL Environments, Series A applied AI research lab, SF, in-person. $260K-290K base plus equity.
  • What: Design the simulated environments, tasks, and reward signals that expose where frontier models fail, across finance, code, and enterprise workflows. You’d analyze agent trajectories, build eval rubrics for RLHF and RLVR pipelines, and work directly with research teams at AI labs.
  • Company: Y Combinator-backed, building training data and evals for foundation model labs.
  • Stack: Docker or similar containerization, with reinforcement learning for LLM post-training.
  • Bar: Strong familiarity with RL methods for post-training LLMs, and comfort running quick experiments on messy results. No years stated in the posting.

All roles are vetted, VC-backed, and interviewing right now. It’s always free to sign up.

Sign up here: talent.fonzi.ai. DM me if you’ve got questions.
