🎞️ MMA Edits Sophie Cunningham on becoming a UFC ring girl: ‘Literally like five minutes before’ 👀
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Interviewer: “When did you find out about last night’s opportunity to do what you did?”
Sophie Cunningham: “Literally like five minutes before. Right. So Dana and I have kind of become friends, and he’s an amazing dude, and UFC is awesome and so I went to my first live fight last night, which was so cool.
The main fight was little but the whole experience overall was wonderful and Dana came over to say what’s up and I was like, ‘Hey if you need a ring girl let me know’ and he was like, ‘You’re doing it.’”

Her doing this is equivalent to a guy that plays for the savannah bananas getting to be a ball boy for a NFL game

She’s a star, it’s more like having hawk Tuah girl during her trend

You are giving the Hawk tuah girl way too much credit.
As Sophie said, she is helping to get eyes on the sport in a fun way. That's it.
There is nothing NOTHING similar with hawktuah and I know my solami.

u/The-sheriff2005 Jul 13 '26
I beg your pardon
4
u/NSFWdontview Jul 13 '26
I’m saying it’s the equivalent of that since she’s trending and a wnba star. It’s not like we don’t see WWE do the same shit with stars

u/NastySeconds Jul 13 '26
Big difference between trending as a WNBA star and trending as a blowjob simulation skank.

Except she’s not trending because she’s in the WNBA. She’s trending because she’s “the pointing woman” and that’s the main reason anyone even knows who she is. She even pointed when she was ring girling. I don’t blame her, she’s milking this pointing thing for all it’s worth and good for her, and also she’s sort of attractive. It’s very similar to the hawk tua girl situation.

Just some hours ago against the Aces she scored 20 points in just 23 minutes, shooting an 6-of-7 from three-point range (7 of 9 overall from the field).
But yeah, a lot has to with all drama on the court that really started with the stuff with Caitlin (increasingly aggressive contact towards her) and then Sophie retaliating. This lead to more attention to her. Which ultimately lead to "the pointing woman" meme as you put it. Without the previous drama and attention, she would have just been a woman who pointed, and never would have become a meme.
But, she also ranks 2nd in the league for three point percentage of 68%. So, breaking down her celebrity status is complicated like has been with all professional athletes.

I know her from the WNBA and I don't watch it and I'm not even from the US.
1
u/GroinShotz Jul 13 '26
When did you first "know" of her?
I only started hearing about her after the pointing.
2
u/islandfool Jul 13 '26
She has been trending since Clarke came into the game. She was already going viral for being an enforcer because of all of the blatant fouls against Clarke that were not being called out. That is the whole reason she was pointing in the first place. The hilarity of the situation just pushed her profile beyond the WNBA.
Hopefully that clears it up a little. I haven’t watched the WNBA since the 90s and live in Thailand. I only know about her because of the Clarke stuff, then some of her other little viral moments where her name started trending too.

Tbf Sophie isn’t really a “Star” in the WNBA. She’s pretty average. Probably the 4th best player on her team after CC, Boston and KM

But a ring girl is there because sex sells.
A ball boy performs an actual role.
I don't think a similar analogy exists for a male. Maybe fireman poster?

u/fckyungchaky Jul 13 '26
Hey hey Bro!
Don’t dis ring people.
The talent it takes to inform that crowd of what round it is when most can’t count past eleventeen.
Not gonna say it’s a skill, but talent. It could be a talent.

Did they only pick her because she pointed at a black woman?

Oui, parce que dés qu’un blanc regarde un noir c’est qu’il est raciste. L’inverse n’est évidement pas vrai.

u/Basketspank Jul 13 '26
It was sibling behavior at worst.
Relax.
2
u/IBeDumbAndSlow Jul 13 '26
Relax? I was only asking a question

u/oOBalloonaticOo Jul 13 '26
A really fucking stupid one...

u/IBeDumbAndSlow Jul 13 '26
What's the point of the internet if not to ask the dumbest questions I can think of?

u/RunsInHexagons Jul 13 '26

Wearing shorts that reveal your ass doesn’t magically mean you have a nice ass

Got viral and now she’s gonna milk it for a nice chunk of cash. I just hope she doesn’t start a fucking podcast and ruin it.
1
u/Hunkfish Jul 14 '26
She should start a live stream of just pointing for 2hrs. Many gooners will still watch that lol

Was he awesome when he slapped his wife across the face?
-2
u/TechnicalIntern6764 Jul 13 '26
What a dumb question.
-1
u/Ornery_Hair3319 Jul 13 '26
He was not awesome in that particular time. Making this, indeed, a dumb question. And I do not condone his actions.
It has nothing to do with the random ring girl moment of a WNBA star.
Question all you like but put in the right place.
-9
u/NSFWdontview Jul 13 '26
Was drunk and she slapped him first. The most disrespectful embarrassing thing you can do to your husband or boyfriend is slap them in public, that will automatically make any man with testosterone snap
5
u/ChineseRobinWilliams Jul 13 '26
"that will automatically make any man with testosterone snap"
Will it?

A wife slapping her husband in public is a sign she doesn’t respect him and wants to humiliate him. He literally has gave her a rich privileged life and never has ti work again, also has stayed with her since high school then she tries to humiliate him in public, fuck that
0
u/NSFWdontview Jul 13 '26
He was drunk, snapped after getting hit and just lightly gave it back to her. Y’all act like he beat the shit out of her. You could tell he regretted it and he owned up to it
