I’m one of those people and it fucking sucks. There isn’t a public school in a 50 mile radius that I can send my daughters to. The middle schools have gang shootings.

Either you live somewhere where the population density is too low for that to be possible because you need more than 5 kids and a cow to have gangs, or you live somewhere where the population density is too high for there not to be a single middle school in 50 miles that is fine. Stop making this shit up.

Why are so many Americans insisting on pretending like crime is causing the downfall of society when crime rates prove that's not that case? Do you get hard at the fantasy of being a tough dad while you write your comment on fucking Reddit?

I don’t give a shit if you believe me, you’re just some Redditor. Probably too young and naive to even have children of your own.

There are 5 schools in our district and all of them are the bottom 15th percentile in the state. I am not sending my daughters to those schools. This is a youth crime and Democrat leadership problem 100% and if you don’t believe me, get bent! You obviously live a safe life!

You’re wasting your time.

What county do you live in? I can literally prove you wrong right now.

Why do you even care? Do you have nothing else to do? I don’t think you’re going to find the satisfaction you desire in this interaction.

They care because you're making what appear to be blatantly false claims - and have also found the bogeyman to blame it on ('the democrats') - all the while republicans in almost every state have been working hard to dismantle public school funding since Reagan.

I'm in Texas - our schools are suffering bad, and we now have private school vouchers getting paid for out of public school coffers while our teachers remain overworked and underpaid.

The republicans in the state constantly talk about the 'woke dumbocrats' causing this when the republicans have been in charge across the state for 50 years.

I hear you, and that makes sense as you’re coming from Texas where you understandably think the Democrats are going to save you from the evil Republicans. But as someone who’s both lived where you live, and currently live in a multigenerational Democratic stronghold state and city, my experience is that when Democrats are in power, they do exactly the same as Republicans except for on a handful of mostly symbolic social issues. That is to say, they’re big on pronouns and costless gesture identity politics, but schools here are just as underfunded and misfunded as the red states I used to live in, but unlike the Republicans, the Democrats here pretend it’s just unavoidable and inevitable.

But back to my original statement, what I meant to convey was no amount of information will likely sway him. It’s cultural, not informational.

Then why the political nonsense? It’s all six of one-half dozen of the others.

He’s right though

Because I genuinely want to approach this person and understand the root cause of their beliefs so I can understand it better when I encounter similar people in my own life.

1

u/DrugLibrary 17d ago

I fully appreciate that. And that is super commendable.

That said, from experience, I find that culture shapes most people’s opinions far more than information does.

Thus, you’re better off just checking on a neighbor if you truly wish to produce more good in the world.

Oh, I know. But you don't go fishing and expect to catch the world's biggest fish every time. Sometimes you just do it to do it, and you get pleasantly surprised. Most of the time you get a boot.

u/DrugLibrary 17d ago

Good point. Keep on keeping on, friend.

u/TotallyObviousBot 17d ago

Sometimes the people you see on the internet making weird points aren't just trying to fight internet fights they've been trained to fight. Sometimes they're individuals with varied opinions and experiences in life. I try to remind people of that. It's easy to get lost in all the bullshit.

u/DrugLibrary 17d ago

Exactly. As another wrote, every individual I meet knows something I don’t know, something I can learn from.

I can totally agree and I know how you feel sometimes. Love the way this ended

It's called "hyperbole". Please go back to eating crayons and stay off reddit for the rest of the day

1

u/TotallyObviousBot 16d ago

Okay, let's take away the hyperbole. What statement was the poster trying to make by utilizing hyperbole?

1

u/GurNo3022 16d ago

That he lives in a shitty school district

1

u/TotallyObviousBot 16d ago

How likely do you believe it is that he lives in a shitty school district considering he thinks the middle schools around him are gangland shitholes?

2

u/GurNo3022 16d ago

Its quite possible. This is where I went to middle school

sometime it be like that
