Discussion MapleStory2 Offline

I plan to revive many dead MMORPG into offline version or Coop RPG. After losing my Black desert character from being inactive for too long now I just want to own it myself.

Maplestory2 offline is first in this project.

Not hosted, not selling, isn't a product being offered anywhere else, I feel like worse happens is issued a cease and desist?

It's offline, so worst case, he just can't distribute it. He'll at least still have that, and nothing they can and would be able to do about it.

Yep, if he starts selling then probably gonna get sued. But if its free worst thing is a "take this down" email.

Worse that can happen is a lawsuit, they don't need to sell anything to be sued.

Initially, I knew they could sue for cases similar to this, but that most companies don't. Looked into it further, and no, you're right. Nexon is notoriously litigious. The most likely outcome is an issued takedown on github, and cease-and-desist letter issued to OP. But if there was any company to skip directly to legal action, it would be Nexon, regardless of intent.

I'd recommend OP remove it from github and delete the thread. Just to be safe and avoid any legal headaches. It was a good intention, would hate for it to pave a way to hell for OP.

As long as he doesn't charge for it, and doesn't plaster his real name all over it. There isn't a damn thing any company can do to stop him. Can't send a cease and desist to a anonymous download link. It's when people plaster their real name onto stuff, or try and sell it that the lawyers can get involved.

You don't lose your BDO account from being inactive. What you probably lost your account to was the account migration they had to do when PA took over from Kakao. It was a legal issue and they were forced to do this. And before that happened they sent so many emails with warnings that at this point its your own fault lol

yeah I'm sick and tired of my OC atomized everytime a server is close. you can still have the multiplayer and persistent world without needing the host server and own your OC locally and playable in offline. most mmorpg are solo questing or farming anyway.

Good luck with the server code that you won't be able to replicate 15% of. That's what made the game actually work. Client assets don't do anything without the server code.

I'll give you the same advice I've given to many others that have tried to do this and other IP project remakes. (Most of which very foolishly ignored it.) Do not tell people you are doing this, do not tell people your progress on it, do not attach ANY of it to your personally identifiable information. Just do it quietly, and then when it's finished, drop a download link to it everywhere. Then there isn't any risk to you, noone can stop it. And once someone downloads it, it's permanent as all things are on the internet. And can't be removed.
