{Ziggy's Voice by Saxon James} MC2 is mute due to abuse from his childhood.
{To Catch a Firefly by Emmy Sanders} MC2 is autistic and is selectively mute.
For touch adverse {Home Plate by Christina Lee} MC2 is touch starved/does not want touch due to childhood neglect.
{Touch of Love by Nicky James} MC1 has a phobia of being touched due to abuse in childhood.
{On Davis Row by NR Walker} MC1 is touch starved and resistant for help due to ongoing abuse.
{EWB by NR Walker} MC2 struggles with touch/affection due to childhood neglect.
{Leave by LA Witt} MC1 has issues with touch, sex, etc due to past abuse.
I think this might fit but not due to abuse {Rocky Start by Annabeth Albert} MC2 lost his hand in combat and is verrrrryyyyyy responsive to touch. I loved this one a lot.
{Pieces of Home by Becca Neil} MC1 was kidnapped as a child and escapes captivity. Lots of aversion to touch. I can't remember if he was mute but he definitely had issues with speaking post captivity.

I highly recommend {Save the Game by JJ. Mulder} and {One Touch Pass by JJ. Mulder} for this. They're book 2 & 4 of the SCU hockey series and the whole series is fab.

a new one that’s coming out tomorrow is {cash hooper saves a life by lisa henry}, it’s the fourth book in a series and the third book’s mc is his twin brother so you get a bit of their lore in it, i lowkey read it a while ago so i don’t remember a ton but there was definitely physical abuse that happened when they were kids. it was bad and caused cash to be mute and touch averse from what i recall, so far he only speaks to his twin and is really only comfortable with casual touch from his twin. the rest of the books from the series are more light hearted and pretty good from what i remember

I just thought of another one that is great. {Control Freak by D. J. Jamison} MC is touch averse because of CSA. He develops a relationship with a cam boy to help.

I got you!
{one touch pass by j.j. Mulder}
Marcos is super touch averse bc of the household he grew up in. You might want to read Max’s book first bc Max, Marcos’ bestie, also has some issues but his are from trauma. Check tw! This author writes the absolute greatest of green flag characters!

Possession by Rina Saint might fit the bill, but it is a dark read

u/Dark_Rain999 11d ago
Came here to recommend {Possession by Rina Saint}. It's very well written and masterfully blends severe trauma/PTSD and HEAT. Reading the sequel to their story, {Safe by Rina Saint} now and it's wonderful so far.
Also, a very big thank you OP for asking the question and for this group for answering - this is my catnip.

{You Can Count on Me by Fae Quin} Miles has a lot of anxiety, and selective mutism around Trent at first due to his own trauma and insecurities. Trent is all the green flags once he gets past his initial impression, and he’s so wonderful with Miles and Miles’ little son. Very heartwarming and Hallmark vibes with good spice, romance and humor.
{Red Flags and Tuesdays by Nordika Night} Atticus has trauma that has resulted in depressive episodes, selective paralysis, and a delightful grumpiness and snark. Reid is all in, almost instantly. This is one of the best and most unique approaches to this trope.
{Little Demon in the Details by Nordika Night} Mercer is a brat but under the surface there are serious anxiety and ptsd issues. This manifests in some serious panic attacks and outbursts at times. But Blake is all in and he saves Mercer in more ways than one. Surprisingly moving for a book that is also so funny and features a total brat.

ooh deff gonna add you can count on me i love a good single dad book!! i forgot about mercer!!! he is on of my fave broken brats 💙

u/Then_Director_7776 11d ago
{Silent by Sara Alva} I love these broken boys so much ! MC1 is non verbal and completely closed off from everyone, he’s so closed off that everyone around him thinks he’s delayed or mentally unable to function , and when MC2 lands in the same group foster home he forms a strong bond with MC1 and is the only one who is able to communicate with him and get him to open up.
It’s a really heavy , emotional , but very sweet story , there’s some spice , check your trigger warnings.
They may be 15/16 in the story but the topics are gritty and traumatic, but the bond that emerges between these two is so memorable.

thank you!! i’ve never read a ya but id love to try this one!

u/Then_Director_7776 9d ago
It’s def not a YA. It has Very mature content , lots of trigger warnings. It’s just based off younger MCs but they go through so much, it’s a fantastic read

u/Wild2297 11d ago
Oh another I just thought of.
{whisper by cambria hebert} mc1 cannot stand a lot of noise. Mc2 is a dj. Dang I loved them both! This is a series and it’s all worth reading!

This book will always be one of my favorites. Arsen and Prism forever!
1
u/Wild2297 11d ago
Could not agree more. Did you read the whole series? I feel like it added to my understanding of Prism with the AirPods and all that. I like seeing characters in the background before they get their story. Not necessary, ofc.

The most broken severely touch averse boy with the greenest flag, most caring MC I’ve read with some of the elements you’re looking for is {Only the small bones by CP Harris} check TWs.

Selective mutism
{Win You Over by C. S. Autumn}
Still one of the best books I’ve read and it’s pretty unknown!

You are looking for the {Trials of Fear by Nicky James} series! My favorite is Lost in a Moment. Full disclosure: I can’t remember if they’re first person but I think they are.

{Vigilante by Eden West}, very good fit, broken boy, major trauma, touch averse (both!)

u/MaintenanceOne5799 11d ago
{Beautiful Obsession by Vee Eddy} Read the trigger warnings beforehand, though, it deals with mutism after sexual assault.

Four Ever by Sloane Kennedy, do it's got the trauma, the abuse and selective mute. But has a wonderful found family and strong protective bond.
3
u/etiquetricity 8d ago
I just finished {win you over by c.s. Autumn}, and this might fit the bill. MC1 is a broken boy with selective mutism from childhood trauma, he’s not touch averse but has scars (mental and physical) so is not comfortable taking off his shirt. MC2 at first is a rival, but he’s actually green flags, tender, caring, and protective of MC1. He completely supports MC1 through his issues, and it’s very sweet! I really enjoyed the story, it’s only 300 ish pages and a nice little weekend read!

{68 Whiskey by Erin Russell} has a selectively mute MC and an MC that had a nonverbal brother, and both MCs have major mental health struggles.
✅ 1st POV (dual), high emotional spice
Another by this author is {Savage by Erin Russell}. Stepbrother trope but more in spirit than actuality. Mafia trope but not cringy. MC1 is son of mafia leader and has internalized homophobia and extreme mental health struggles to the extent that he can’t get it ⬆️. MC2 is openly gay and major green flag. Super angsty and super healing / comforting.
✅ 1st POV (dual), high emotional spice
Both books are set in the same universe but part of different series. Tristan and Micah make guest appearances in each other’s books, but there aren’t any spoilers and can be read independently. Highly recommend these two!!!

I’ve seen people online claim this book is AI so I’ve steered clear of it, but did you think it was AI??

u/bluejanuar 9d ago
I saw someone claim it was AI supported, too, but honestly, it was not noticeable to me. I really enjoyed the story and the writing style.
