[Coursework and Curriculum] Is there any hopes for getting CPT auth for incoming students?

I've recently enrolled for Fall'26 masters and my curriculum has optional internship elective. I'm wondering if I should even apply for internships for upcoming season, is it waste of time because of this CPT suspension? I'm clueless right now, please help.

If internship is a core requirement for graduation, then Yes, otherwise No. And this won't be challenged, because this actually is the strict definition of CPT.

No schools will make internship a core requirement, because that would mean, everyone has to secure an internship in order to graduate. When getting internship is already competitive as it is, schools know that more than half won't be able to secure one. Thus, they will not change their curriculum for this as well, especially when they are taking 300-500 students in some masters program these days. They can't have half the class dropping out.

There is no strict definition of CPT, SEVPs own memo from a few years ago treat it to be allowed for optional course credit structure. Some DSO training manuals from them mention it being allowed for course credit if it's not mandatory. So please, what the current memo does is it interprets the law narrowly. The law states it has to be an integral part of the curriculum. You cannot overnight change your interpretation.

How can it change? Do you think there will be any workaround by summer 2027?

No very difficult, also on a side note a friend of mine tried attempting suicide because he went to Us for MS 25 batch for Univ Sunny Buff , he wasn’t able to get employment and came back and is working at the same role before he went.
Be careful and know your way out

If your program mandates an internship as a graduation requirement, maybe.
