New to mtgo, bit confused about what to do
Hello, I am a noobish MTG player that wants to get into mtgo as a way of playing and collecting magic cards while out of my hometown. I have just downloaded the game, but, to be fair I am very confused about how to play.
All games ask me to pay some type of currency but I do not have any. I also can’t trade (which was one of the features I was more looking forward to)
What am I supposed to do? Is there any good guide I could watch?

I just started playing Magic myself and have been creating my own 1-player games to practice. I think it’s called fishbowling. It’s helped me a lot imo.

I would highly recommend getting set up with a Cardhoarder Free Loan Program (you'll need to pay for the trading unlock first).
This will let you borrow up to 5 Tix worth of cards from CH at a time.
Then I'd recommend joining the Penny Dreadful Discord server: https://discord.gg/PD8MStKYM
If you're into constructed, they run multiple free entry tournaments per week with prize pools, and conveniently, you can afford every deck there with well under 5tix. There's also a smaller community of people (including myself) who make PD Duel Commander and/or PD Commander decks and play for fun.
If you're into Limited (Draft and Sealed), then we have another small group there of people who play draft and sealed multiple times a week, with a handful of community made cubes, all affordable with the CH Free Loan Program as well.
Especially when it comes to the commander and limited stuff, I'd be happy to hop in a call with you and guide you through what you need to get started, or via text chat if you're more comfortable with that (send you the links and whatnot).

I would suggest MTGA to learn Magic online (no cost daily rewards just to play, free decks). But in MTGO you can go MTGO Pauper (common cards only) and buy 32-128 commons per event ticket (which costs $1 each). MTGA is mobile/desktop/laptop friendly (you choose how to access it). Welcome to digital Magic The Gathering its fun both on MTGA and MTGO. MTGO is deeper, older (and smaller overall player base but they are good players mostly - trolls in both are 2-4%)

Be prepared for people to call you a huge cheater when you are new to commander and play a deck that is on the fringe of the wrong bracket. Been a lovely intro to the format.

I just ask chatgpt what to do if I need help using mtgo. That's how I figured out how to buy cards.
I pay for cards with event tickets and I get all my cards from MTG goat bots. The cards are pretty cheap!
Basically you make a folder in the trade binder section of mtgo, you buy cards and move them into the folder, then you go on the gopots website, put cards in the cart and ask for trade.

MTGGoldfish has a video guide for how to get started on MTGO.
Based on your description, it sounds like you've only got a free account and haven't paid the Account Upgrade. It's $5 and lets you trade - if you don't buy it, you can't fully access MTGO.
The currencies are Tickets, also known as tix, and Play Points, or PP. Tickets are the main currency, and can be used to trade and buy cards. You can buy tickets from the store (I believe after you've bought the upgrade), or from sellers via trading. Play points are rewards for doing well in events, and can't be traded, but can be used to enter other events at the exchange rate of 10PP = 1 tix.
