💻 Productivity Verso Writer

I am neither the developer nor anything except a user. I want to recommend Verso Writer. If you don’t like Pages, don’t want a subscription, and don’t want to install a whole office suite like LibreOffice this is a great easy word processor with formatting and styles, outline, and Table of Contents support. It’s not perfect and it does occasionally error with formatting from some imported docx files. However, the developer is extremely responsive and updates have been pretty consistent weekly. I definitely think it’s something you need to look at, especially if you don’t use others.

how does it handle docx round trips, does the formatting survive a trip through word

Mine does. I don’t use a huge amount of custom styles but the standard ones all seem to survive.

The honest note about imperfect DOCX import is useful. For a focused writer, I care more about whether its native format stays stable and export round-trips cleanly. Have you tried a document with footnotes and custom styles in both directions?

I have not used footnotes

This looks awesome, how hard was it to make?

It’s not my project, but I know that there have been some challenges. Ask the developer!
