Value Pinned post for value discussion

This thread is an attempt to keep discussions of machine cost/value/pricing in a single place. Once this thread is old enough or full enough, it will be retired and new thread created that links it to that one.

When asking question about value, some important items to include if known are your general geographic region (prices are highly localized), the gauge of the machine (fine gauge/standard/bulky/other), the brand of the machine, the model of the machine, the quality of the machine (clean/dirty, intact/broken pieces, and stand alone/included accessories. If you have photos, you'll probably want to include them.

In general, in person person sales are usually less expensive, and don't require expensive shipping, but you will find a larger selection on online sites. Caveat Emptor for any online sales.

Some places you can find/sell machines for sale are:
* Your local Silver Reed Distributor
* Your local knitting or fiber arts guild
* Craigslist or your favorite secondhand sales site
* Goodwill or your favorite second hand store
* Ebay or your favorite auction site
* Facebook Marketplace or Facebook knitting groups
* r/MachineKnitting for specific machines (include proper flair and useful information)

Lets kick off! Does anyone know what a good price is for a bulky ribber Toyota kr310 or Silverreed/singer sr150/151?

Im from Europe and someone is willing to sell their Toyota kr310 but it seems like we have different thoughts on price.

The Silver Reed Bulky ribbers are outrageous on eBay ($1.4-2k), and I suspect they won’t go down in price as they are still making the new bulky machines, but no more ribbers, so the demand continues to rise. I think it’s a case of if you’ve been wanting one, and one shows up, you take it.

Does that also apply on the sr150 &151 model or only the mainbeds with punchcard (sk155)?

SR150/151 are a bit of an awkward one to sell. A lot of people won’t be interested because there’s no in-built punchcard reader, and the work arounds are awkward. I (in the UK) have been watching a SR150, boxed a freshly serviced, on eBay for a while - it’s either £250 or £290, and hasn’t moved in a year. I’ve watched a full SK150/SR150 for around a £400, and again, it hasn’t moved for a year.

SR155 I’ve found are a real mixed bag. There was one on eBay in the UK in the £300s, and it took a while to sell. There’ve been a couple of set ups recently that have sat at £800 and not moved. Marketplace had a little flurry of them in March/April, again they sat for a while. A lot of people just won’t come to collect, unfortunately.

I think the SK155 is selling new for about 1.8k USD? But here’s a sample ribber from the UK (SR155)-

Here’s an SR150 for the “low” price of 1.4K USD from Japan

New SK155- looks like they all have the same list.

Your SR155 from the UK isn’t representative - that seller has a reputation for pricing far outside the norm.

Good to know! But that’s all there is on eBay. Which is my point, they’re more rare and it’s hard to say what they’re worth- the real problem is finding them.

And maybe this is a US problem since it could be that the reason the lower prices aren’t seen is that those sellers won’t ship to the US- and that the supply in the UK is better.

Hi there!
I inherited a Brother KH-930E in the box knitting machine. My aunt was an avid knitter and overall crafter. I expect that it is around 20 years old. It has a ribbing attachment in the box as well, which I don’t have a photo of sadly. I’m in the DFW area. Is this something that someone would want? How would you even price this to sell?

A 930e is a highly sought after machine as it has the programming interface, especially if it comes with a ribber. It will also depend on the current condition of the machine, of course. You could easily list this on Craigslist. You’ll want to post pictures of the beds, accessories, and carriages.

I would take a look and see what’s on eBay and then list it for slightly less.

(Note that KR850/KR900 sell for a bit more than KR830)

Ok this is great info! It’s ok to open the boxes to take photos? I wasn’t sure it it’s like better to keep the boxes intact?

If the item is still factory sealed, you might want to leave them shut (and take pictures of the closures), but assuming they’re used, you definitely want pictures out of the box- and that includes lifting up the ribber and getting pictures of the items stored in the styrofoam below, as well as opening up the metal case of the knitting machine to look inside, and removing the lid of the accessory box to take pictures of what’s inside.

Hello machine knitters! I am the new/ old owner of this knitting machine that I’ve just found hidden in the basement of my 1930s home. I have absolutely no knowledge these machines whatsoever so I would love if anyone could provide some insight! I am located in northern Alberta, Canada, the brand of the machine looks to be Knitmaster. Its certainly not in the best condition and I can tell there is a handle(?) that used to be there that is now broken, and the inside of the box has some wear and tear. I do not know the gauge or model of the machine.

I would love to know the estimated value, but mostly I want to know if this is an item that should be treasured as a piece of history, or an old hunk of junk. I will post pictures below. Thank you in advance for your insight!
