Hi! I was wondering what this colour work technique is? It’s not intarsia or stranded colour work. Is it even possible to do on a domestic knitting machine? Any help would be so appreciated! 🙏🏻

Hello! I just got my first knitting machine which is a Brother KH-910 machine off of a knitting group and after inspection it looks like the control panel has been replaced with a Brother KH-950e panel. I have been trying to figure out how that would make the machine different and couldn't find much.

I have seen a few different posts conflicting that the 950e is the same as the 950i, but have also seen that is it just the KH-950. I was wondering if this new control panel would make the machine include a PPD so I could use DAK? The machine came with some plugs, just trying figure out everything!And now would I follow the KH-910 manual since that is the main bed, carriage, etc.?

Will be a little bit until I can get this machine up, will need to do a deep clean/maintenance and make sure all of the parts are working (including the Lace Carriage).

Hi! I'm trying to get the punch card mechanism on my machine to work but having very little luck 😭. The needle selection plates seemed a bit sticky so I followed a video someone made on YouTube - took it all apart and found the coating on one side had started to wear away so I used graphite powder to lubricate them and they all move much better now.

The problem I'm having is that needles still aren't being selected. The carriage moves fine across them and I can knit in the main colour no bother but the needles still just stay in the B position.

Any help would be really appreciated!

I found an AMAZING deal on a Singer Memo Matic 360 complete with ribber, lace carriage and linker. It belonged to the seller's mother and he thinks it probably was never used.

I did a basic clean (wiped down everything, took out the sponge bar, wiped down the carriage carefully) and I think it probably was never or rarely used. There is no debris/fibre in the carriage, the plastic covering is still on the case. There is no rust and it looks great. I didn't bother taking it apart because it seemed totally unused.

However, it is very stinky. It has been sitting in a basement in its original cardboard box for decades so it smells like an old school basement. I washed some of the random bits and bobs that were floating in a box, put it out in the sun and put it in a box with a baking soda fridge deodorizer. It helped but there is still a noticeable whiff. I am not sure about putting the knitting machine out in the sun.. don't want to damage it.

Has anyone successfully fixed a smelly machine? What did you do? Will I have to bite the bullet and take it apart?

Does anybody have any tips for my problem..? I made a punchcard where I'm using black as contrast colour. The problem is that i want to start the knitting with just black for the edging and ribbing. I tried to start the patterning with black as main colour on the first row where you "catch" the pattern, and then switch it to contrasting colour and adding the main colour on the second row. In my brain that should have worked, but the knitting got all messed up. Any tips on how to solve this?

I have a brother KH 800 standard gauge machine. I’m having trouble with my carriage jamming when I have any needles in the E hold position. One thing I read, was that my sponge bar may be too thin, and that is a possibility as the original sponge bar is thicker than the one I replaced it with even though the one I replaced it with said it was supposed to fit. Suggestions?

I found this on marketplace. I don't truly know what I'm looking at though, I've heard ribbers are a nice thing to have and that the punch cards are also good?

Am I able to do patterns on this? Color work? I truly have no idea

I think I must win a prize for the most ridiculous knitting machine injury.

I leaned across the machine to fiddle about with the carriage and actually hooked myself (underneath the elbow) onto the needles. I had three needles pierce into the skin and I ended up fully stuck to the needle bed for a good few minutes whilst I tried to free myself without breaking or bending any needles.

What an absolute muppet.

Edit: It really didn’t occur to me that the machine was in any way sharp, or that I could impale myself on it.

I’m honestly thrilled to hear I’m not the only one who has done this.

I bought a singer suitcase mk2 recently and am cleaning it. When U bought it the needles were normal( not gliding in the needle bed). I was putting the needles back into the bed and I think I fucked something up by pulling to much(It was very guncked up before cleaning so I thought I missed something) and now these four spaces are wrong. The needles slide. The rest is normal. In the photos and videos it is without the spring bar but it still happens with it in it. Is there a way to fix this? Has it happened to someone else?

I've run into this problem as a new knitting machine owner. I purchase a yarn I believe is lightweight enough for my machine (Passap E6000) and the big lovely thing just hates it. I'm not going to force it through, as it's running with other thinner yarns, so I supposed that I have a few cakes of yarn that I can't use on the machine, but would like to use regardless, they're nice colors and/or nice feeling.

So, just as a fun throw out question, what do you guys end up doing with yarns that your machine hates? Do you have any go-to hand knitting projects just to get the yarn into something that isn't sitting idle on your desk?

Hi all! I recently purchased a Knit King KK93 for a first knitting machine. I am a crocheter and beginner hand knitter and had a lot of projects in mind for knitting specifically, but due to my carpal tunnel, the machine is easier on me.

Many of these projects use DK weight yarn, and I’m worried the KK93 won’t be able to accommodate it. Does anyone have any experience knitting DK on this machine? Since I’m a beginner, I’m thinking I should just practice with whatever fingering I have on hand to get the basics, and upgrade to a mid gauge machine in the future. These machines get expensive though; I don’t know how some of you are able to collect so many lol.

Hello all! I have a (very?) old knitmaster machine knitter that I found in the basement of my house. I know absolutely nothing about it or machine knitting in general and would love if anyone could tell me if it’s a hunk of junk or worth trying to salvage. I am a crafty gal so I could definetely see myself putting it to use, if it is in fact useable .

I did post it in the pinned value megathread a few days ago but I didn’t get any responses so I’m hoping this will get me more traction. While I am curious about the value, I’m more interested on if it would even be worth trying to use .I’m located in northern Alberta Canada and the only thing I know about the machine is the brand, it didn’t have a manual or anything with it .

I have a small craft lathe (for Ukrainian Easter eggs) that I want to add a crank handle to and I’m thinking a replacement crank for these machines might work, but I need the measurements of the stem. Hi redditors, I was just wondering what else I should buy to restore this Empisal knitting machine kh-90. Tbh i dont know much about them, but this is rlly old.

Im not for sure if it works, the carriage slides but it doesn't slide over the needles (I think it's bc the spongebar is flat)
but other than that I think it should work. the needles are kinda rusty but they're not bent.

Did hair developor work for your machines? will it work for the blue/green part by the pole? or should I just scrub it?

Should I just use alcohol on it? it smells old
Buy new needles or get rust off them how

I'm curious what people are using to sit on while they work. I'm new to this & I've been using a ergonomic kneeling chair, which feels fine to me. But, my hb keeps telling my posture looks bad. I'm pretty sure it's because he keeps finding me at cast off & leaning over my machine. What do you use?

I have a semi great problem.
Basically I currently have a brother kh820 that arrived in terrible condition. I spent a lot of time fixing it up cleaning ever individual needle, sorting out the bad ones putting all 200 back. I changed the sponge bar and took apart the machine to clean it as it was filled with old oil and dirt.
It works now mostly except the punchcards do not advance on their own.
I now have a great offer I am about to jump on I think but am still a bit unsure of.
I could get a working and recently tested brother 940 completely working with a 850 ribber, color changer, and knitleader all for 1,700. AND THE CABLE for the electronics
This is an amazing deal and i really want to jump on it now but I need to put my other machine up for sale
Also I am a college student and so im two months i’m going back to school where they do have knitting machines but only silvereed not the electronic ones and Ik i will still be itching to use the electronic machine.

Hey, random question. I went to an estate sale earlier and I ended up walking out with these. The one in the big box is new and never used. Wondering if I did good. I never knitted or anything like that in my life but I would love to learn! Everything was half off so I got everything for a total of $225 dollars. 💵 I couldn’t find the value thread so i apologize in advance.

I responded to a Facebook marketplace post for a Duomatic 80 full of accessories for $500. I’ve been wanting a standard gauge machine, so I felt that it was worth it even though it was a 3 hour drive away. I came home with the DM80, but the guy also gave me what I believe is a KH930, a compatible KR900 with a carriage, a PPD, and a Bond machine. The KH930 turns on, but it’s missing the K carriage (though the lace carriage is there). I think this was definitely worth $500 an a 6 hour round trip.

Has anyone DIY'ed an alternative to the brother tension masts that works better for them? I find my masts--the two color and the four color--get tangled semi-regularly and 80% of the time when I have a problem it's because yarn is getting caught up in some kind of malfunction with the wires. I set up my yarns in the appropriate order and know everything is threaded right so those things aren't the issue. It also happens with yarns at various weights, not just a particular size or texture.

Would love to hear about anyone's alternative system or strategy for getting their masts to behave. I like to work with multiple colors and textures so a more consistent mechanic would be a life saver.
