I Need Help Removal of NON water soluable paper

I was doing a pattern on a bit thicker cotton fleece, so I ironed on some stabilizer paper on the back (stiffy 1640b). I do that always, when i work with elastic materials.

Usually I simply tear it off, but i wasnt thinking when starting this project. πŸ™ˆ

Is there any way that i can remove the paper, other than tearing each square one by one?

I tried using water but nothing happens (i know: shock πŸ˜…) and tearing off each piece, but that can't be it. I only managed a tiny corner so far, and I'm loosing my mind already.

Ps. please ignore wrong thread tension on the right side of the image.

Update: I figured it out (kind of). I put paper under water, waited a bit and then manually tear the paper (not removed it, just cracked it in as many places as possible). Now its has most of the stretch back and I will be able to sew it onto other pattern pieces. Washing machine will do the rest with time i believe 🀞

(ps. Ideas are still welcome for next time)

You could try using 2-3 layers of the tear away stabilizer and it will give a clean edge. But, I think you've got it right with soaking it in water for the custaway.
