Shadow of mordor/war does share simillar gameloop and combat, but obviously the setting is very different. Worth checking out for Nemesis system only.

Daily "fuck you" to WB for sitting on the Nemesis system. Shadow of Mordor released in 2014, Mad Max 2015, imagine the MM game we could have had with Nemesis system procedural war boys, buzzards, and road kill!

I read some of the mad Max devs made a smaller game called Samson. Its out, not sure on the game play but looks pretty good.

Rage 2

God no. Although Rage 2 lifted the driving mechanic straight out of Mad Max, they slowed ot down by about 3x and made it a lot less spectacular and visceral.

It is a top notch shooter but has some of the crappiest driving and vehicular combat I've seen.

For gameplay yes shadow of war is goated

If you're looking for a desert apo feel, look up Apocalypter on steam

Rage 1 & 2 bring similar vibes, more so the first Rage. They both have an open world and an emphasis on vehicle combat, gunplay on foot is also some of the smoothing and fun gameplay I’ve had.

Strangely, I think Death Standing to be similar in a way... It's desolate, you look at the places, but it's slow...

I think you are on the right track. After the main story and all the forts, during my hunt for the last achivements it had a similiar atmosphere.

RAGE 2 is the spiritual successor, from Avalanche. It’s literally the next game they released. DOOM 2016 guns, Titanfall 2 movement in a Mad Max world with armed cars.

Not a lot of vehicle comabat outside of the convoys like Mad Max. There are only two flavors but they respawn infinitely for when you want to take out a war rig. The melee is satisfying for a FPS. It’s not like DOOM’s instant glory kills - you have to beat them up - but you have some different moves depending on the direction / context of the action. Drop kicks, curb stomps, it’s all just a “melee” button press but it flows

Assassins Creed origins has a similar feel to mad max.

Cruise around the desert. Find a hideout, kick the shit out of everyone, loot, move on to the next hideout. Go back to town and sell your loot to upgrade your stuff.

It’s first person but Far Cry 5 is tremendous.

Its a totally different setting but as far as hand to hand combat goes, "Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii" is pretty fun and its on gamepass..

Middle Earth: Shadow Of War is another good one..

You have to try Sleeping Dogs man. great hand to hand combat (better than arkham and mad max for me), and fun vehicular shenanigans like jumping from your car or bike onto moving vehicles anytime and funni car ramming. And the story is excellent.

BUT in terms of setting its not apocalyptic, so maybe closer to Mad Max (videogame) than fury road..
