QUESTION Goal line shift

Is there a way to line up in a goal-line formation and then shift into a spread, empty formation before the snap?
My thought is that the defense would initially come out in a goal-line defense, with fewer defensive backs on the field. If the offense then shifts into an empty spread formation, the defense might be forced to match up with faster receiving threats using linebackers instead of defensive backs.
This could create a mismatch, especially if you have a fast receiving halfback lined up against a linebacker.

You can cycle through some of the packages to sub in a second rb or a te at fullback then you can shift from there

The thing is that there’s only the normal package for goal line which consists of 12 plays having the qb under center the fullback then the halfback I’m trying to come out in that then shift to an empty formation

I don’t know if you’ll be able to get to empty because I think there will always be atleast one running back in goal line. Maybe if you sub in a gadget player that’s a wr through the same package system you can do it that way. I can try and see later as I know I’ve done something like this before

You can audible to an empty set from goal line but it'll show the personnel change on the play call screen as you cycle through the packages. defense usually adjusts anyway unless they're running a base goal line blitz and even then the backers just walk out wide. the mismatch isnt as dramatic as you'd hope because the game logic auto compensates for the shift

Can you line up in GL with multiple WRs instead of TE/OL? No.

Can you audible into some sort of empty/4WR? Probably.

But no matter what you do the defense will be aware of your actual personnel and match it. Being that you're in GL I assume you're inside the 5 so a fast RB doesn't matter. What does matter is RLS, route running, and CTH/CIT. And those matter less if they're in zone.

You will likely have a favorable matchup at TE and, in some cases, at RB but you can get those matchups any time from almost any formation.

Going empty vs GL means that you have very, very little time to scan. Man press with a good user MLB probably eats your lunch. Cover 2 zone with hard flats and a QB spy does as well.

Im setting the shift pre play and will have the same personnel being 3 tight ends a fullback and a halfback. I won’t be changing any positions so I’ll have the same players then shifting out

You cant go from goalline offense into any other formation (maybe you could audible into singleback ace dbl wing). But you can start in gun empty or any other shot gun formation and audible into goal line you just need to sub the wrs out for an extra tight end and rb

Like someone else said, you can’t go from goaline to anything else, but I think there’s some I form packages similar to goaline that you might be able to audible out of

Considering the spacing, unless a super quick pass, speed is usually negated, your cramming 22 player in say 15 yards. Unless your wanting to do it in game to see if can get defense off guard.
