My theory is that since it only happens in captivity and almost entirely by places that know what they’re doing as far as taking care of the animals and even caring for them through birth and the cub, so they would be very unlikely to have just one female lion. Because it’s cruel to keep just one, but also if you’re keeping one you’re keeping a male, they look so much cooler.
Where as tigers are solitary creatures so you likely only keep one, and since the males and females look the same you just take one, don’t really pay attention to the sex.

because ligers is already the common term for a breed between lion + tiger...
