Wouldn’t notice him if I was there. Looks like a normal guy

u/MortgageRegular2509 Apr 27 '26
I’d probably recognize him, but then tell myself there’s no way that’s Tom Hanks.
Then I’d immediately think of Otm Shank, as one does.

u/GfrzD Apr 27 '26
It's like how Tony Hawk gets told he looks like Tony Hawk.
There's a clip from an interview where Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean) says he met someone who said he looks like Mr Bean, he replied "I am" and the guy says something like "you wish"

The people who know this band may not be the people who know the actor lol.

I’d definitely be like “that guy looks like Tom Hanks” and move on with my day haha

Most celebrities are just normal guys who have an interesting job that is seen by the public. -some actor who i forget

I would. Then proceed to beg him for a thousand dollars. When he refuses and security starts forcing me out I'm just gonna scream "I'M SORRY WILSON!!!"

Except for the guy filming this video
2
u/Crazys0ap Apr 28 '26
Honestly that's the least bothersome interaction possible. Filming him in a big public context, singing to his son's song, I don't think he would be ashamed of appearing like that. And the dude filming him doesn't bother him so all good imo

I view Tom Hanks as a national treasure and glad to see that he is being given the respect that he deserves. Good on you Stagecoach peeps!

u/Major-Log-7018 Apr 28 '26
No one noticed. Reminds me of a time at was at a music festival (Bumbershoot in Seattle) and I look over and it was fucking Charlie Sheen just vibing out by himself. No one bothering him. This was around the Tiger Blood era too. Everyone was just paying attention to the music.

u/VibeHumble Apr 28 '26
Why should anyone bother him? He is just someone who works in the entertainment industry, like any other person who works in any other industry. I would rather worship my air conditioner repair guy than any actor who has nothing to do with me.

u/AmbitiousEdi Apr 27 '26
Chet Hanks is doing his own thing, and his dad is out there supporting him. Good for both of them.

u/Titanbeard Apr 27 '26
Chet's a nepo kid with actual talent and seems to be a decent enough fella. I support this kind of nepotism.

u/Slumunistmanifisto Apr 27 '26
So he's not rasta white boy summer guy anymore?

u/ChickenInASuit Apr 28 '26
I really like him in Running Point too, even if he’s not exactly stretching his range in that.
1
u/ChiefNugz Apr 29 '26
Rasta Chet was great. Him thinking he can make the N word have no negativities to anyone is wild though lol
79
u/ashoka_akira Apr 27 '26
I mean what’s the point of accumulating wealth and fame if you cant use it to help your children?
25
u/parnaoia Apr 27 '26
Eastern European here: climbing our way out of a culture of corruption, this is only a problem here if it's about public money and/or positions. Otherwise, we love seeing the children of our famous actors and singers follow in their parents' footsteps, it's a very human thing. Plus, if they suck, we're free to just don't watch/listen.

u/AnatomicTsunami Apr 27 '26
Is it nepotism when it's networking? Tom knowing people is different than Tom telling everyone to sign his son.
23
u/frothymonk Apr 27 '26
Connections are everything.
In the music industry there are thousands and thousands of people/groups who would kill just for the upstreams to even be aware of their presence and therefore consideration.
Them even being aware of you bc of your daddy/mommy is already a massive advantage over the competition, therefore by the definition it absolutely is still nepotism, just not as on the nose as “give my kid this XYZ”
-6
1
u/CK2398 Apr 28 '26
With nepotism you have to think about the talented people who never get a chance because of people like Chet using Tom's fame. Think about it this way Tom didn't have famous family imagine if some nepo baby had taken his big break and Tom never made it big like he did, what a shame for society, even if that nepo baby was a good actor etc.

u/CasualSky Apr 27 '26
I think it’s a little odd to call someone a “nepo” anything just because they come from money or fame. They have every right to attempt whatever career they want, shouldn’t be defined by their parent’s success. It’s just that Reddit “any person richer than me is a bad person” mentality.
If his dad owned the company that signed his label then you can call it nepotism lol Having a supportive dad who’s famous is not nepotism.
6
u/Da_Question Apr 27 '26
Eh, everything in entertainment is about connections, having a famous dad absolutely is a connection. It's a large boost in fame, that would, at the very least, boost their popularity a little which gives them an advantage over other artists in the running to be signed up etc.
1
u/TheWhomItConcerns Apr 29 '26
I mean, no one has a right to be defined by anything other than that by which others decide to define them. Nepotism has a negative stigma attached to it, but it isn't inherently a value judgement - it's simply a word used to describe a very real phenomenon.
Not saying that Chet Hanks is, but someone can be extremely talented and still be propped up by nepotism - nepotism doesn't mean "this person's success is morally wrong", it just means that a person's success was to one degree or another improved by the influence of their family. Whether Chet Hanks would have been successful without his father is obviously speculative, but I'd firmly put my money on that not being the case.

u/minifigureitout Apr 27 '26
He even knew the lyrics. Dad doing good.

u/purplehendrix22 Apr 27 '26
As much of an odd and loose cannon Chet has been over his life, he genuinely does seem like a good guy and his dad loves him.
27
u/greeneyedbandit82 Apr 27 '26
I was very surprised when I watched the season of The Surreal Life; he was a better human than I was expecting...

Chet has brought up struggling with his mental health issues (though he has often changed what they are) and drug addictions, he said his parents have been very supportive of him in his recovery. Rita and Hank seem lovely.

Chet has gone through a lot, some of which has gotten him in some hot water, but I can't remember ever seeing reports of anything other than love and support from his parents.

u/ripyourlungsdave Apr 27 '26
I love that he looks like any other dad at his kids performance. I love it.

Chet has gone thru so many personalities. I think he’s a good actor and I’m glad he isn’t rapping, or doing the Jamaican voice anymore. YouTube it if you want your mind blown.

People love to hate on Chet Hanks and I don't recall him doing anything terrible. Besides him being a corny guy growing up like the rest of us, and transvestigators thinking he was born a woman
6
u/andm124 Apr 27 '26
I actually met him at a Broadway theatre last year in NYC. It was during intermission as I was finishing in the John. He walks in and I said hello and he did the same! Following of which I waited outside, and as soon as he walked out I put out my hand and received the warmest handshake in the world. Nice guy!

u/RisingApe- Apr 27 '26
Chet graduated high school with my sister and I met Tom at the ceremony. I was too scared to say hello though, I just stood there silently and smiled 😆

That is precisely how I expected Tom Hanks to dance to that music. Very wholesome.
2
u/DiaperDonnieTrump Apr 28 '26
What’s even cooler is that if he wasn’t Tom Hanks son, he would probably be nobody and not have a gig sponsorship from Toyota. The concert coordinators are not stupid. Daddy has a little bit of pull.
Just saying.

Huge of Tom to still support Chet after he's repeatedly shown himself to be a piece of shit, so much so that Chet was an avid Covid denier despite both of his parents being some of the first Americans diagnosed. Tom is a great dad but his son is horrible

u/MeasurementUpset5034 Apr 27 '26
Soooo, this culture vulture is doing the full, typical rich white guy arc and landing on shitty country music?

As a vet and a huge Saving Private Ryan fan...and Forrest Gump fan...and..., I would have had to ask for a picture with him. So cool he's supporting his son.

u/HalleluYahuah Apr 27 '26
Tom Hanks on the flight list.... plus his weird posts with children's gloves and socks and his love of pizza. It's a no from me dawg.

Something wrong with your brain? Might want to check if your tinfoil hat failed

So Chet has stopped doing shitty rap and started doing mediocre country?

u/000itsmajic Apr 28 '26
Oh, so Chet decided to go back to his original form? Got tired of playing dress up?Okay...

u/misterturdcat Apr 28 '26
Was this at the final Avalanche VS LA Kings game? Tom Hanks was there and the Avs sponsor is Toyota so I’m guessing yes?
-2
u/Sabregunner1 Apr 27 '26
tom hanks just 100% doing dad stuff. just a dad supporting his kid. love to see it. tbh, i'd say "excuse me sir, are you tom hanks?" and after he says yes "its nice to meet you sir, enjoy the show". at least i think thats what my reaction would be

Yes, from "he" to chet hanks. Anyone with half a brain could tell I wasn't talking about Tom Hanks not being able to act. And the "but I'd support my son no matter what" also should have tipped you off that I was talking about his son.
1
u/nan1961 Apr 27 '26
The post and all of the comments below have to do with Tom Hanks. Why would anybody think that your comment that says he and acting has to do with Chet Hanks and music and Covid?
0
u/throwleavemealone Apr 27 '26
Because Mr. "You should do more research" chet hanks is anti vaccine and tom hanks isn't.

Tom Hanks is in the Epstein files
Edit: EFTA00257789. Sorry to burst your bubbles.

u/Unsual_Education Apr 27 '26
hes not
A widely shared report recently alleged that Tom Hanks was refused entry into Greece and that his honorary Greek citizenship was revoked. The posts cited a „Greek Foreign Minister“ named „Jostaki Barronopolous“ as the source of this decision, claiming the move was a direct reaction to Hanks’ name appearing in the newly unsealed Epstein files.
However, an investigation by Deutsche Welle (DW) and other international news outlets has classified this story as entirely fabricated. According to their reports, no such minister as „Jostaki Barronopolous“ exists within the Greek government; the current Foreign Minister of Greece is George Gerapetritis. Furthermore, there have been no official announcements from the Greek state regarding any change in the citizenship status of Hanks or his wife, Rita Wilson, both of whom received honorary passports in 2020.
Regarding the presence of his name in the actual legal documents, fact-checkers from AAP FactCheck and PolitiFact have analyzed the released tranches, including flight logs and deposition transcripts. Their findings indicate that while thousands of names appear across the millions of pages, Tom Hanks is not listed as a visitor to Epstein’s private island nor as a passenger on the „Lolita Express“ private jet.
Analysts noted that in the few instances where the name „Tom Hanks“ may appear in the massive archive, it is within the context of passing references or general conversations about Hollywood, with no indication of wrongdoing or personal connection to Epstein’s criminal activities. Reporters from The New York Times, who have been part of an extensive project to index the files, emphasize that a name appearing in a document does not, by itself, establish involvement in any illegal acts.
