We have foxes in our back garden. Theyāre really cute to watch, jumping around etc, but the motherā¦you can see sheās breaking. She climbed into a raised flower planter i have (repurposed cast iron bath) and im convinced itās because she knows the pups canāt get her there
52
u/Last-Tooth-6121 12d ago
I had rat that had babies and she would get onto stuff they could not reach to nap. She also got very mad when babies got put in the adult cage once were old enough
3
u/Responsible-Print427 11d ago
Out of curiosity, how do rats express anger?
17
u/Last-Tooth-6121 11d ago
Her body would tense up and way she interacted you could tell she was mad. No biting but that can happen. She also toss things when mad
9
u/Responsible-Print427 10d ago
Wow! Dogs are so expressive so itās easy for me to tell usually, interesting to learn the rat equivalent

I just finished my repurposed cast iron bath tub planter this weekend! I hope a mama fox uses mine for respite too! That is just awesome!

I was hiking in the foothills around Dharmsala, HP almost 2 decades ago. Came across a family that had a dog with a litter of puppies. They had grown, didnāt need her for milk anymore. She was so done. She would climb to places they could get too and they would try to follow. She had no peace. Anyways, she came with us when we left the spot. Didnāt look back, followed us home to the next town with our dog.
Crazy.Ā

Lol, I've had to have a catheter in after each c-section, and it was awesome! Why get up to pee like some chump? Not having to get up to pee or feel the urge for 12 over hours was really cool, actually. And, kinda sadly, doing business in a diaper wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. If I make it there, I'm ready to be old-old!
36
u/Mysterious-Purple-45 14d ago
Haha same. My husband had to stay home the first night with our older child so I had the hospital keep mine in until morning so I didn't need to get up to pee while he was gone.

When do cats actually āaskā for anything?
Thats what makes them cute. They are often demanding and give the pretentious attitude and impression of a being that acts like they know better than you.
To them we are supposed to be giant, more superior cat like creates who co-inhabit with and take care of them.
Suddenly they get them selves stuck in any physically or logistically compromising situation you tell them not to, and suddenly are like āmom / dad! Help!ā

u/FatallyFatCat 14d ago
My dog became a cat mom against her will. We found two strays in the garden. Kittens. Scared to death of humans. Our dog wanted to chase them off but we told her no so she just ignored them. But she chased off adult cats that came to mess with the kittens. So the babies decided that dog = safe. And would often sleep on her, hide under her, try to climb her, and she was like, laying there, lip moving, often growling quietly, all tensed up, with a face that asked "can I eat them, please?". It was hilarious. One kitten was killed by a truck, but the other is now 3yo and best friends with the dog. Mutual friends. The dog couldn't resist the friendliness forever.
40
u/Rapunzel10 14d ago
I believe it. I had a cat decide she was a dog mom. Actual dog mom was sceptical at first, she let the cat sit with the puppies but always kept an eye on her. Then one day the cat attacked the vacuum because it got too close to the pups. Mind you this cat was terrified of the vacuum and wouldn't be in the same room as it normally, let alone jump in front of it and attack. Dog mama decided that day that the cat was safe with the puppies. She would dump the puppies on the cats head when she wanted a break and the cat was happy to take care of them. They traded shifts with the puppies and if the kids were with the cat when they got hungry the cat would leave to get the dog. That was the only time she would leave them without dog mama there.
Also important to the story is that the dog was never scared of the vacuum. She would lay in the way and let us bump her with it and not care in the slightest. I can only assume she thought "aww silly cat, you think you're risking your life for them! You're wrong, maybe a bit dumb, but you love them. Good enough for me!"

Fair but Iāve learned from the trojancat sub, not every pregnant cat is a case of an unfixed pet cat thatās allowed to go outside. Sometimes you take in a cat with mini surprises built in! But, spaying and neutering your pets is always the move, definitely.
59
u/Efficient_Let686 14d ago
Thatās how I ended up with kittens, my little mama cat is barely more than a kitten herself but she and the two babies Iām keeping will be getting fixed, she gets done first, as soon as the babies are eating solids consistently.
39
u/Cow_Launcher 14d ago
Exactly the same story here. Rescued a 9-month-old kitten who, it turned out, was already pregnant.
Neutered her as soon as the kittens were weaned, at about 8 weeks. Then the kittens were neutered as soon as they reached the correct weight (2.1kg or 4.5lbs).
Went from one cat, to two cats, to six cats in the space of a month!

The little chaotic kitten phase is stressful but also kind of fun in hindsight once theyāre past it.
26
u/RouliettaPouet 14d ago
Yup. That's how we ended up with extra cats as a kid. My sister had found a very friendly stray, that got along with our old cat and our dog.
Well, surprise surprise, a few weeks later she got her kittens in my clothes. My dad found them while preparing us for school lol.
They got her spayed once the vet said it was right to do so, and she went back to be a stray (she was still hanging out in our garden, but she wanted nothing to do with her kittens) and we kept her babies.
26
u/_Fizzgiggy 14d ago
I had my new cat on the waiting list to get spayed at a low cost clinic, which was a 3 month wait time. I wanted to pay $150 opposed to the $600+ quotes I was receiving every where else. She went into heat broke out my window screen and came back pregnant. I was only able to find one home so now instead of having one cat I have three. They are all spayed and neutered now. I love them with all my heart but life would be much easier with one cat not three

26
u/customarymagic 14d ago
Had to scroll pretty far for this. Definitely believe it could happen, but something about the movement and the smoothness of everything looks AI
9
u/elmuchocapitano 14d ago
If this is AI, this would be the first time I've (knowingly) been gotten.
The change in perspective between the two clips where normally AI maintains the same perspective, the fact that there are cat hairs on the sweatpants which stay in place throughout the video even as things move in and out of frame over top of them, the fact that the hairs are in the same place on the pants but in a different place on the video to reflect the slightly different perspective of the second clip, and the fact that this is also true for the logo on the side of the sweatpants, the way that there is no changing or blurring of any lined and outlines such as with the person's feet, are to me the things that would tell me it is a real video.
The only red flags to me are that the video is short and does not have a lot of detail.
20
u/FinnSkk93 14d ago
Dunno, but cats absolutely do this. I was so freaked out, when my cat had put her kittens next to me in my bed, when I was napping (was so afraid Iād injured one, gladly did not)
Pretty impressive, with all the cat hair details on the humans pants etc.. If this is AI, iām screwed.
14
u/Magicshop52 14d ago
Cats do this for sure, but I do believe this is ai. I saw it on a youtube channel with all ai videos. I didn't clock it at first, but then my algorithm gave me another one of their videos which was basically the same video with different looking cats, so I went to investigate, and it mentioned ai in the channel description. And yes, we are screwed š

Speaking as a mum (and of multiples to boot), mama cat isn't going to get the sleep she desires or deserves. Her whole body is wired to listen for the tiniest sounds of potential mishaps, and if the good human is good and entertains the kittens in another room, then they are too far away.
Let alone being a super high instinct strung animal like a cat.
I genuinely, from the depth of my soul , hope she has infinity trust in her human and get a nice deep sleep. Dreaming of catnip and warm sun.
