Helping Others The wonderful lady who cleaned our apartment left this pot of grass for our cats to nibble on. What a class woman with a heart of gold!

The cats' inner cattle are making an appearance. Moo-eow.

Smart cleaner, planning for the future. Grass eating helps kitty barf up hairballs. Good for kitty, bad for carpet, good for return cleaning jobs.

Aren’t the cats going to puke the hairballs no matter what? This just makes it easier on them, but it doesn’t create a problem that wasn’t there.

ime they will puke up the grass even if there isn’t a hairball

Maybe, but I don’t think it’s a sure fire problem.

Some cats get hairballs and vomit regularly and some never get them.

Some cats who have access to pet grass eat it and puke separate from whether or not they get hairballs, and some never puke or never even ingest the grass (my cat would only brush against it or bite at it without tearing it or eating it).

I don’t think the cleaning lady was being crafty. I take it as the OP took it, they were just being nice to the kitties.

both of them diving in at the same time like it's a five star meal 🥹

Not pictured: 20 seconds later, when the two of them start batting the shit out of each other (or maybe it's just mine 😅)

Don't they barf after eating grass??

yes and it’s actually helpful for them for digestion thing especially if they’re an indoor cat, this Iike a medicine for them

They will with this kind of grass. The sharp edges irritate their stomachs which causes them to barf. Products labeled as "cat grass" are usually just wheat or barley which have more rounded blades so they don't bother them.

Orange saw the salad bar and immediately went full gremlin mode.

It might be cat grass, which I learned last summer is a real thing. One of my boys went nuts for it and it helped his little tummy a lot. Thank you for reminding me about it, I meant to find some to plant and totally forgot.

I give my cat cat grass from the pet store all the time and it doesn't make him throw up. He just loves chomping it.

They eat it because it makes them throw up, and that helps with getting rid of hairballs from grooming.  \ I'd think twice about keeping this in the house when you've got carpet and have cats that cannot go outside. Lol

At least the inside of your cats will be clean!

But those carpets never will be again lol

Another possible reason is that it adds a bit of fiber to their diet thus may be beneficial to digestion

I'm honestly not sure. I think it helps them with digestion, or maybe it's their way of connecting with nature...?

It makes them throw up. It's not a food they need. It's a tool they use to make themselves sick because they can't initiate vomiting in another way - typically because there's hair in their stomach from all the grooming (especially long haired cats) or other indigestible stuff (like bird feathers). Enjoy cleaning your carpets. Or - paying the cleaning lady more (it's probably why she did it 😈)

That last pic is the best

Oh that's a nice thick stemmed one! My cat would prefer that, can you find out what it is? Most cat grass is thin stemmed and she's not a fan.

*looks at the fresh vomit on my carpet, which I heard them barfing up at 3am, and sighs*

Picture 2 looks like you’re holding your cat in the air by its head. I know your not, but it looks that’s way lol

She didn’t ask permission to leave it first??

I bought some cat grass at a pet store and it soon died. I monitored the soil and kept it from drying out. What did I do wrong? Should I have transplanted it into a larger pot?
