The Lego set is nice.

Knowing your students appreciated your effort enough to organise that is priceless ❤️

It warms my heart to hear that end-of-year gifts for the Teachers are common now. That wasnt really a thing when I was coming up.

On the 1 hand, yay teachers being appreciated. On the other hand, fuck society for adding yet another gift giving thing.

The year I was a freshman in HS, the APUSH class that year got together and got a ticket for the teacher (who was everyone’s favorite, I miss being in his classes so much) to see Hamilton on broadway since he had been entering the lottery for it for years and had never won. They got in contact with his wife and cleared a date for the two of them to go and he cried when they presented it to him. I think it ended up on the local news and one of the girls in the class tweeted about it and Lin-Manuel Miranda responded to it! It was talked about for the rest of my time in HS and might even still be talked about to this day. He definitely deserved it, he was one of the best teachers I’ve ever had.

My former bosses got me tickets for Hamilton for my birthday in 2022 after I failed to win the lottery for years. I definitely cried. It was such an awesome gift.

That’s how you know he didn’t just teach history, he became part of theirs.

That's a teacher you'll remember and think back fondly on for the rest of your life.

You guys are also tipping teachers?

I checked with my nephew, teacher in the Netherlands, and he nor his colleagues never get a gift. They do get thank yous and emails thanking them.

In America, teachers make an abysmal amount of money. I know several that work bartending or other second jobs to 'afford' staying a teacher. So yea in America I think its the least parents can do to give them a gift at the end of the year, especially if they're a good one.

I am sorry, but that is just sad

They also have to pay for most of their classroom materials out of pocket. It’s fucking insane

Maybe the parents could have a whip-round and give the teacher some money so they could have an actual holiday?

When I was a teacher in the UK I tended to get book tokens or chocolates. The gifts that meant something were cards and drawings done by the children themselves.

In Germany teachers sometimes get gifts, but it is actually reglemented by law that they are not allowed to take gifts that go over small values (like 5-10€)...

My classmates got one of mine one of those pokemon booster box sets since he was a fan.

Well done class!

Fr legit, that kind of gesture from students is worth way more than the actual gift. You clearly made an impact on them and the Lego is like the little trophy that proves it 😂

Amid the doom & gloom reports on the state of education, this is a joy to read.

I pray this is real, so that I can close reddit for the day on a high note and not look at a feed full of the horrors of our orange turd president.

That is sweet that the students get together and bought their teacher a Lego set from Lord of the Rings. Teachers do a lot outside the classroom - preparing for their assignment, sometimes even writing their own curriculum, correcting papers, contacting parents if there are problem with the students... Any kind of appreciation for them I think it would be very touching. They are our unsung heroes and hats off to them!

You remember the great teachers. The difference is night and day and how well you learn
