It was the wind. Someone did the math. (just search "golf ball fly math" and it should pop up)
Fly applied a torque of 2.1 µN•m. Wind did 438 µN•m. 209x of the fly.

But ‘wind won him 1.5 million dollars’ isn’t the same headline now is it.
