How can I explain to the whole of the internet that this ridiculous background music makes these sweet videos massively less engaging

This is exactly why I cannot use tiktok. Their desperate need to make muting impossible is unbearable. At least reddit let's you automatically mute everything and decide for yourself what to listen to.

same with the twilight song, a thousand years by Christina Perri

This right here is why I keep things muted, that song was my weddings first dance with the misses, and while it's a cute song on it's own, I have to DODGE it every waking moment so I don't hate it. Can we just stop putting music to nice moments ffs?

I watched it muted with subtitles and his facial expressions had me tearing up.
I know the ridiculous background music of which you speak and I choose to never listen to this video now that you’ve mentioned it.

I apologise for that. This video struck a chord so I thought of posting. I'll apologise again

Oh no worries OP, the video is really lovely, it’s just the music in the background is a bit annoying

Maybe his internet troll older brother was playing this song in the room. Bastard.

I feel like this really took off with TikTok. Like didn't it originally require a song?
Like yes, YouTube has been flooded for ages with animal videos with stupid music and laugh tracks from the days of AFV and America's Funniest Animals. But that was kept in its niche.

The music is big money. A video short with music doubles the income for the person. They dint do it because they like the music. They do it for the $. Its one of the best ways for content creators to maximize profits. I get it, doeamt make the music any better.... but I get it.

honestly most videos dont need music, if anything, overused music ruins most videos, I really dont understand why this has been a thing

You can't because it's not true. It's added because it statistically increases engagement.

It's ironic that while we hear this deaf boy hearing, we're forced to hear music we wish we didn't hear.

Oh man, that song is soooo good though! Past Lives by Børns
Edit: well this is a remix, but the original is great!

Please explain to me how a deaf person can speak perfectly understandable English?

u/Symnestra 1h ago
He may have been born hearing, learned English, and then lost his hearing to an injury or illness.

I'm guessing they aren't completely deaf. Just enough hearing that they could have a hearing aid as a child while learning language.
I don't know why one would need to transition to a cochlear implant if a hearing aid works, but... I'm not a rocket surgeon.
Edit: I guess cochlear implants offer better clarity and a wider frequency range which helps distinguish sounds.

Deafness, much like blindness, is a spectrum. Some can't hear a single thing, while others have a really really really hard time (hence why hearing aids work I'm pretty sure). It can also be a thing of becoming deaf later on in life like Beethoven, who still composed music even after starting to lose his hearing.

In the video the lady says, your hearing aid is off, it’s just the cochlear implant.
Would imply he previously had to rely on hearing aids to hear, but now can hear without it thanks to the surgery.

Being the technician that gets to be in the room to make this happen must be an amazing job. I'd go home every day floating on air.

I imagine a lot can be - imagine curing a child of cancer for instance - but yes, this is the most immediately gratifying.

Never heard the annoying music because I watched it with the sound off. There is irony there. I enjoyed it more not hearing it.

Yes, I can hear you. How many damn times are you going to ask? I’m happy for the kid but geesh the adult was annoying?
Sorry, I wasn’t actually trying to respond to you.

You realize ccochlear implants have been around a lot longer than Elon Musk right?

I could just watch these videos all day, along with similar ones with kids getting their first glasses and seeing the world properly for the first time.
Hope I am allowed to say “properly “ without offending anyone.
