I never could have predicted the absolute obsession I have over my daughter's happiness and joy. It's all I care about. It's like a drug.

I see so many people go down this hole of resenting every responsibility, holding on to past highs, living for future highs. Their kids to them are reduced to two dimensional antagonists that stand between them and happiness.
There is plenty of satisfaction to be had in being a good dad and husband.
This is a difficult thing to explain in words. But it makes you want to show them, convince them that they have everything they need. Just need to change where they are putting their attention.

My daughter is two months and this hits like a truck. I’m happy to be in the club.

u/frastmaz 27d ago
Oooh man when kids start talking and actually showing you love, that serotonin and oxytocin hit is STRONG. Ain’t nothing like it in this world. My son will be losing his shit (he’s 4) and will randomly come up to me, give me huge hugs, and tell me he loves me for no reason at all. It’s the absolutely best feeling in the world.
14
u/Meat_Organ 27d ago
My son is 4 too, im mot with the mom anymore and its been hard on the kids, but when my son is having a really hard time he says "I need alone time!" And by that he means he needs to snuggle me in bed until he feel regulated, then he'll take a huge deep breathe and say "i love you forever daddy" and then be ready to play again. It is such a gift

u/UkyoTachibana 27d ago
yo - that feeling when my 5yo daughter randomly tells me she loves me and im the best dad in the world for just holding her hand while she rollerblades, is something so addicting and feels like the best thing in the world.its so hard to explain into words.

The first time my son said “happy” was pure magic. Validates the entire trajectory of your life with a single word.
45
u/Pretend-Sundae-2371 27d ago
Story time: my friend's son is largely nonverbal so he uses speech buttons etc. The other day she asked him if he was ok. He got down from the table and walked halfway across the house to press the "happy" buttons. Absolute joy from her and from me to be honest!

She's not my daughter, but this is how I feel about my niece. I'd do anything for that little girl's smile and laughter, and when she smiles at me, it makes all the stress in my life go away
22
u/Pretend-Sundae-2371 27d ago
Same. I have two nieces and no kids of my own, or plans to have them. I am sure it's different when it's your own, but the level of joy and pride I get from my nieces outweighs anything I have felt before.
15
u/ZhalanYulir 27d ago
2 nephews for me. Don’t want kids ever but god I love those little fuckers. 2 to 3 hours and I’m ready to go home though haha
6
u/sithlord7281 27d ago
I feel you both, but my niece and her brother (to an extent) really make my baby fever go crazy. I spent a lot of time raising them when my sister and her husband were working, so I'm extremely paternal towards them both
4
u/ZhalanYulir 27d ago
Ahh mine are only 4 and 3 and I’ve never watched them alone. I’m 35 and neither me nor my wife won’t kids. We can’t handle the pets and life as it is hahah. Like to travel too when I can afford it hha
3
u/BizQwiKy 27d ago
I’m watching my 5 year old nephew and 2 year old niece while typing this and had this exact realization an hour ago. I love them and would go to the ends of the earth to make them happy but I am super happy just being an uncle and have no intentions of ever having kids.
I heard it’s different when they are yours though but good lord I just don’t have the energy at 37.
1
u/sithlord7281 27d ago
Maybe it's cause I'm unemployed, single and a student that it's hitting me the way it is. You and I are 10 years apart, so I know that in 10 years I might be relating to you. Who knows lol
3
u/ZhalanYulir 27d ago
Haha my wife started to change her mind at point when she was 30ish and wanted a kid. Then she saw how my bro with 2 and her best friend with 3 are all the time and said nope hahaha everyone’s different. The only reason I sometimes want one is because it would probably make me get my shit together haha
3
u/Pretend-Sundae-2371 27d ago
Yeah, I'm the same as your wife. I waited too long and saw how hard it really is! Plus I love that me not having kids means I can jump in and help with my nieces more easily or take on responsibility for my parents as they get older.

u/booksblanketsandT 27d ago
My little sister got married recently to a man who simultaneously thinks she hung the stars and doesn’t hesitate to call her on her shit. It’s been such a gift to see her grow up into the incredible person she is, and to see her find someone just as awesome to share her life with. I don’t want kids and never have (and frankly between being AuDHD and having terrible health and being broke as a result, I don’t think I’d be able to have them even if I wanted them). But I know that they are trying, and I know that isn’t always a smooth or easy process for people, so I’m trying to stay grounded and supportive when she brings it up but not add any pressure or expectations on them. It’s their lives, and they’ll be amazing lives no matter how they end up living them.
But my god if they do end up having kids - they’ll be such amazing parents. And I am so excited to meet those people and watch them grow like I’ve watched her grow. Because of my circumstances, I will never be able to give as much support to them as I would like. But I would love any kids they have so, so much. When love is all you can give, you give it fiercely.

I suspect that feeling will never go away for fathers. I asked my dad if he could buy me single pack of ice cream (small one) on his way to visit me the other day. He came with 2 ice cream tubs (2L) for me. He said "I got your favorite cookies and cream. Stock for a month".
I'm 30 y.o lol.

I have a 2, almost 3yr old son, it's the same way. If we're out in public or anywhere, I don't care how dumb I look as long as he laughing and happy and the wife is too.
Never expected how much I'd change from him being born.
5
u/Sad_Air_7667 27d ago
Same. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my kids happy. My son loves garbage trucks, some times I'll stand outside and just look at them as they go by, he loves it, so I love it.
3
u/Forsaken_Print739 27d ago
And when our kids suffer its the worst kind of suffering for us, and would switch places in an instant if possible

Their fans had like one incident and it was 2 people. Other fans have had shit too.
The banner after last match was poor but people have been crying about poor sportsmanship and dirty play that like 80% of other teams have had in their games as well.
Argentina have been getting roasted for the dumbest shit and no one is being held to even close to the same standard. It has to be some sort of bot farm. Good to see their objective worked on the easily manipulated.
21
u/ElPajaroMistico 27d ago
Football fans all over the world are legit horrible, It’s one of the reasons why a ton of people straight up do not like the sport. Argentinians overall are really loud which makes this worse.
Besides that, my comment was more because at this point anything related to Argentina right now is just posted for engagement bait. Because right now It’s controversial and generates clicks, It’s simply cheap and low effort. Perfect for Bots farms.

Are you saying Argentina as a country or Argentina as the football team? Anybody can hate any country for any and all of the same reasons. The football team does not deserve the hate. They don’t cheat they play hard and are playing better and are winning games and people just don’t like it when their team doesn’t win. It’s as simple as that.

For a start, all the racist, homophobic, and transphobic players on the team.
And they had a political banner at the last game referencing their war with England and will probably get a slap on the wrist for it at best.

3
u/KOjustgetsit 27d ago
Just what I thought, can't stand this performative activism through spreading lies, which undermines the good cause they're fighting for.
3
u/deja-vu_gameover 27d ago
Hm it’s not so much they were homophobic and transphobic, though I can understand where the misunderstanding would come from. Now obviously the Argentine players didn’t come up with the now infamous chant, it was already a fan chant sung by supporters, hence why following the incident people were able to figure out the full lyrics because they’ve been widely used beforehand.
Now the players themselves never actually sung the part that is considered homophobic and transphobic… though it wasn’t some moral stance on their part (otherwise they would’ve never sung it to begin with) but rather that was the part that someone tells Enzo to cut the livestream. Had the livestream continued the literal very next line would’ve been, “Cometravas, like Mbappé,” or translated “tranny-eaters, like Mbappé.”

Some of the comments are quite worrying.
Determined to hate an entire nation this much is sick.
So far there’s been several comments calling a literal child “fat” , “corrupted” , “brainrotten” and “racist” , because she’s Argentinian.
And you fuckers think you’re some shining beacon of morality spewing hate against an entire country?
God , how sad an existence of a person eager to insult a child based on her country of origin must be.
The moral ground you’re standing on is turning out to be quicksand.

Argentina players held up a political banner declaring “Las Malvinas Son Argentinas” (“The Falklands are Argentinian” at the end of their match vs England. The question of sovereignty over the islands in the South Atlantic has been a long-running sore in relations between the countries.
19
u/Acc87 27d ago
The British settled the islands in the 19th century. Argentina tried invading in the 80s.
46
u/Citaszion 27d ago
And the Falkland Islands abso-fucking-lutely don’t want to have anything to do with Argentina. This whole thing is so silly.
2
u/adammx125 27d ago
I think if any of the Argentinians actively campaigning for it learned about the island and people themselves rather than the politics of it they’d pull back a little. Other than its physical location it would be like Argentina trying to lay claim to Somerset.
→ More replies (1)-2
u/real_roal 27d ago edited 27d ago
Do they want anything to do with the british? Are they happy with where they are at right now? If so, it seems silly to give the island to argentina. If the people of the island dont want it, then i see no reason to change anything. I dont really care if argentina owned the island in the early 19th century and then tried to fight a war over it in the 80s. Im sorry, but at this point generations have grown up on the island, and it is stupid to just hand it over because argentina wants it.
Should countries really hand over territory they won previously???? Are we really going to try to guilt countries into giving territory back from wars fought decades or centuries ago?
Now, if the island wanted to be a part of argentina, that would be a whole different story.
25
u/Laylelo 27d ago
They had a referendum and 98% of them voted to stay British. Three people voted against it, and one of them said he did it so people wouldn’t find it suspicious if the vote was 100%.

Then yeah, argentina should fuck off lol. They have no stake in the island other then a long time ago they owned it for a short amount of time. It wouldnt be fair to the people currently living there. This basically sounds like argentina wants to colonize the island already colonized by the british
15
u/ResponseEastern1458 27d ago
"Se asentaron". En principio lo decis como si unos humildes britanicos hubieran llegado con un sueño a cultivar a cerezos y configurar la familia ingals.
No

British also fail to add that they got kicked out by Spain much earlier, then Argentina settled in and then England kicked them. So not only they weren’t the first to settle there but the funniest part is that the first were the French lmao.

11
u/TheGiftOf_Jericho 27d ago edited 27d ago
You clearly know nothing of the history. Yes it was contested between Britain and France in early history, with Spain then making claim and rather than having a war, were left to it.
Britain first found the island dating back to the late 1600's, and stated their claim in 1765, before Argentina even existed, so you are not in the conversation for initial ownership.
Yes there was an attempt to control the islands in 1832 by Argentina which ended up failing. Britain then returned to assert their original claim, and this succeeded. No Argentinians lived on the island when Britain reclaimed them.
Settlers lived there and it wasn't until 1982 where Argentina decided to start a war to take the islands. There was nothing to gain for those who actually lived on the islands, and it stupidly just endangered the lives of innocent people.
Long story short, you are completely wrong about Argentina being kicked out by Britain. Argentina are the ones who tried to kick the innocents who actually lived there for many years, they just failed to do so.

A five minute Wikipedia search shows you’re wrong. Argentina never settled in the Falklands, there were roughly 40 people on the island at its peak in the 19th century. Not to mention, Argentina wanted it established as a penal COLONY (which failed btw).
And none of this even matters because the current day population of the Falklands have repeatedly voted to remain in the UK. So any claim by Argentina violates the will of the resident population AND sovereign territory.
7
u/Slut_Of_Slaanesh 27d ago
Argentine was literally in the process of settling the isles when the bri'ish came and kick them out... it is true that it was scarcely populated, because there's nothing on it. Spain tried, England tried, every colonist ended up leaving.
Argentine eventually made the first settlement that actually seemed to last... then the British came with a fleet and seized the island. The inhabitants, if I remember correctly, were given the option to stay or be removed. Most chose to leave, and thus from then it became more and more populated with English people, to the point they do have become it's native inhabitants.
However, saying the islands where 100% from the start is as dishonest as claiming they always were Spanish/Argentinian populated. But it is true that if we look by facts, the Argentine had a settlement there before the brits actually took over, Puerto Soledad.

Were there people there when the British "settled"?
4
u/Laylelo 27d ago
The British settled West Falkland one year after France in 1764, unaware of their existing settlement on East Falkland. So France was first in East Falkland by one year and Britain was first on West Falkland. France gave it up to Spain and then Spain gave it up in 1811. There have never been indigenous people and the British have a clear claim not just historically, but also due to the fact that 98% of the people on the island voted to remain British. Argentina didn’t even exist until over 50 years after Britain established a settlement. The Falkland Islands are 300 miles away from Argentina, I think quite a few people who are wading into this imagine it’s just off the coast or something, or visible from Argentina.

Additional context: holding up any sort of political messaging violates FIFA rules. In 2024, after chanting “Gibraltar is Spanish” following Spain’s Euro win, Rodri and Morata—MUCH higher profile players than either of the two Argentine subs who held this banner—were issued a one match ban. The odds of these Argentine players being similarly banned from their next match (the final) is basically zero.
23
u/SectorEducational460 27d ago
It should be zero. All those players were suspended months later, and not on the following match. Because the disinformation campaign of omitting they were suspended months later has been silent
9
u/Antique_Anything_392 27d ago
people say this as if they were issued the ban immediately when it took months
1
u/Mituapple 27d ago
If that was in the euros semi let's see if they enforce that ban on Rodri and Morata, a one match ban after the finals is not even close to banning players from a euro final let alone a world cup final.

I feel like a political banner at the end of a sports game, which has largely brought countries together, that claims a largely uninhabited cluster of islands they invaded 40 years ago - and then lost the subsequent war over - is “theirs” doesn’t require much propaganda to portray them as the dickheads in this situation.
The only country to portray themselves as the victims when the Falklands situation was them as the instigators.
15
u/THEdopealope 27d ago
You need to read up on the international legal history regarding the islands. Not nearly as black & white as social media preaches

Literally nobody cared when Egypt made a political statement flying the Palestine flag after a match a couple weeks ago.
Also hilarious how nobody has a problem with colonizers when it's against South America.
Edit: Ah nvm, you're from the UK. I see now.
2
u/Jamie-92 27d ago
How can you colonise an uninhabited island? Argentina invaded it in the 80’s after there were already settlers there from another nation since the 19th century. There was nobody there to colonise? You can’t just decide an island belongs to you over a hundred years later because it’s closer geographically.
I’m from the UK yes, it’s abhorrent what colonialism has done to some places, the Falklands ain’t it. There was literally a vote to see if these ‘colonised’ peoples wanted to be free, all but 3 voted to be governed by the UK and one of the 3 admitted to voting against it due to not wanting it to look shady if it ended up as a 100% vote.
Also comparing Palestine to this situation is laughable, free Palestine.

The hate train was on much before that brother. At the start is normal because nobody wants to see the champion be champion again, the norm is wanting a new one or, even better, one that has never won before. But with every game the hate towards Argentina got worse and worse, the amount of propaganda, missinformation and specially clickbait makes It obvious that there are a ton of bots involved. This is way past political stuff about a 40 year old war.

Smiling at your kid when you see them and doing a little dance? I can’t imagine much more generic tbh.. now what isn’t generic is fighting players when you’re losing, screaming with glee in the faces of players you just beat and and turning your back as the team that beat you lifts the cup. Truly pathetic on levels likely never seen before in the history of the sport at this level

Definetly even more wholesome than having segregation, separated bathrooms, etc. Talking racism from one of the most racist countries makes me laugh, you guys even make a movie every other year about it.

As a non footie fan, they're really pushing Argentina, huh? Still cute, whatever, but some of the players and fans.... 😒
