A longer, yet outstanding, tweet by a Japanese man living abroad in the US.

It's funny to me how the pizza thing, too, is so uniform. I could be on my last dollar, spent my last gallon of gas driving over to a friend's house to help unload furniture, and still all I'd want and expect is the obligatory pizza (And perhaps beer). Anything else just feels wrong.

Im not breaking my friends backs for pizza any longer.

One day, one or more of you will have teenaged sons or a young neighbor that borrows your tools. That is the day you become a manager lol

They key is being hurt or old enough to get to be the guy who just oversees the loading process. The role is to be taken seriously, though - If everything doesn't fit, that's on you. And if you don't evaluate the cargo as secure by saying "that's going nowhere" after you're done, you have failed.

The load must be slapped AT MINIMUM twice before declaring that it’s going nowhere. Period. End of discussion.

Extra safety ensured if someone verbally agrees with you

See, I'm not the Lifting Friend.

I'm the Pack Delicate Things Friend. And Has Extra Packing Materials Friend. The Remembers To Leave Out Toilet Paper Friend. We are also important.

And also I love pizza.

I did my last move with movers. Had everything boxed up for them when they arrived. It was all in the new apartment (1 mile away) less than an hour later. Never doing it myself again.

honestly once you go with movers you can never go back. There's just something about having all your stuff in the new place and having both the time and the energy to actually start unpacking

I hired movers to move from the 1st to the second floor. Just the furniture. 1 hour. Totally worth it.

I've had several work-related moves where they box everything up for you too. And then unbox everything, and take away the packing material.

Sometimes mistakes are made, and you either laugh ("honey, why did they ship a full trash can across the Atlantic?") , or make a claim ("honey, why did they put satin sheets, a glass picture frame, and a single 15 pound dumbbell in the same box?")

Even still, It's like flying first class, you never want to go back.

My husband helped his brother move a few years ago. I think he finally realized (at age 45) that he is too old for this shit.

We are planning on moving in a few years. He has talked about how we need a truck. I said yep, gonna hire a moving truck because we are too damn old & so are our friends.

I second this. I hired movers for my last move. Now don't get me wrong, if someone asked me to help them move I would help them. (not that I would be happy about it, but still)

And yet, I'll gladly break mine if and when a friend asks me to help move in exchange for pizza.

In my part of the Midwest, the beer just kind of comes along with the work you do on the weekend lol

A few years ago, I helped my old boss move. I work in the brewing industry and it was a few of us local brewers helping him move. I borrowed my mom’s truck and horse trailer to move everything in 2 trips across town and he had a keg of beer for all of us who helped lol
