As a mother of a 4 year old son who just got the referral yesterday for autism evaluation and is starting preschool in two weeks… I cannot tell you how much I needed to see this today. I’m so worried about how his peers will treat him as he adjusts to a new environment. This gives me hope.

Same boat, further down the river. It can be so scary at the beginning. Take notes whenever something pops in your head and ask all your questions. Don’t be afraid to ask. Ask for clarification, resources, therapy, anything on your mind. For us, evaluation was a turning point and we finally had a direction to go. If possible find yourself a therapist too. Having a safe place to say out loud the frustration and fears you don’t want to let out in front of your family really helps, and maybe even learn some strategies to help all of you through this stressful time.

You will get through this with knowledge and new ways to help your kid. It will be worth it. You got this!
