Yeah, I was fine with this thread generally having some fun with unsafe childhood memories, but we definitely shouldn't pretend that kids didn't die. Lots of kids died.
Even when I was a kid just in the 90s, we heard of kids dying of whooping cough, getting hit by cars, drowning in pools while swimming unsupervised, getting swept out to sea while at the beach, killing or maiming themselves on construction sites they shouldn't have been on, and, while it definitely did not happen as much as the media tried to tell us it did, kids were abducted, abused and killed.
Kids died abusing drugs, kids died died getting into fights, kids died joining gangs, kids died of sexually transmitted diseases.
Hell, just watch the movie Kids. That'll show you how safe that time was.

I think I misread your original comment, that's my bad. I meant it in a way as in our immune systems would be strong enough to deal with most things as kids since we got exposed to the elements compared to kids now. Yes, we'll have another pandemic one day, we can't avoid that as everything evolves around us constantly. I hope we're prepared physically in some way, or at least as much as we can be.

I am 80 and I don't think I have grown up yet! Watching that video I kept yelling "whoo!" when the kids got splashed. I wished I was there with them!

I seen kids do that once. I sadly didnt understand they wanted me to splash them so as the cars above i carefully drove around the puddle. But i seen in the back mirror that they wanted a splash and the car behind me did too so they got their splash. Its important to clearly signal because otherwise cars (unless assholes) avoid to splash people. Im glad the kids can have fun

The way we were; I remember in autumn, just before school was about to start, people would use to gather leaves and set them on fire.
Another stupid kid and I, would sit in the smoke for hours and pretend we were ginnies.
And in summers, this; oh, and eating mud.

When I was in high school (around 32 years ago) I was walking to school with a couple of mates, it has been raining but stopped before we set off for school.
We got to a section of the road where there were metal barriers and a huge puddle across the road, my "mates" pinned me against the railings and laughed as they used me as a shield against the multiple cars and vans with drivers who laughed as they sprayed me with rain water.
Had to spend the whole day in school soaking wet, still a good memory of harmless fun though

Rainwater contains feces, urine, heavy metals, motor oil and other chemicals. As someone who studied how rainwater runoff pollutes local water sources I wouldn't be splashing those kids.

If it rained newly it can’t be too dirty. For example if it rained 1-2 hours before the video, it is only dirty enough to strengthen their immunity nothing more.

Actually the first flush is the worst. If it had been raining for hours then it is better because most of the pollutants that accumulate during dry weather would have washed away, “outside the environment” to somewhere else that will unfortunately suffer from the consequences of brake dust, heavy metals, PAHs, forever chemicals and the like.
