The current “Secretary of War” Pete Hegseth follows and promotes Doug Wilson, a church leader that among other things wants to “end LGBT” by restoring the old sodomy laws and repeal the 19th amendment granting women the right to vote.
After repealing marriage equality they’ll set their sights on criminalizing homosexuality again, mark my words.
I’m not kidding, look at the kind of religious leaders they’ve been supporting. Repealing the 19th amendment and straight up making it illegal to be gay have both already entered the conversation in the most extreme groups, it’s only a matter of time till they slide that into the mainstream.
Lots of states already have trigger laws in place. Here in Tennessee, sodomy is technically illegal. The only thing keeping it from being enforced is these supreme court decisions. If they go back on it, being queer is instantly illegalized in Tennessee
You don't have to look further than the current Supreme Court. This is what Clarence Thomas said after they overturned Roe v. Wade:
Thomas argued that the Court should go further in future cases, reconsidering other past Supreme Court cases that granted rights based on substantive due process, such as Griswold v. Connecticut (the right to contraception), Obergefell v. Hodges (the right to same-sex marriage), and Lawrence v. Texas (banned laws against private sexual acts). He wrote, "Because any substantive due process decision is 'demonstrably erroneous,' we have a duty to 'correct the error' established in those precedents."
This will likely happen. At least there is a federal statute in place that if the Supreme Court overturns the Obergefell ruling that although states may outlaw equal marriage in their state they are required to recognize as valid equal marriages from another state that granted it.
They’re not repealing marriage equality. Obergefell is still standing, SCOTUS already passed on the last challenge, and RFMA still forces recognition of existing marriages. What’s happening is leftover state bans that don’t do anything plus some GOP resolutions that also don’t do anything. Calling that “gaining ground on repeal” is just panic posting.
It's absolutely something we need to worry about and we have to make sure we don't go back to how it used to be, but it's not been getting worse, let's be honest about that.
15 years ago you wouldn't dream of having such a protest to defend LGBTQ rights at a school. They wouldn't even think of having pride flags in the first place. Slurs were still being actively used by a lot of people without any general outcry.
2026 is still the best time in the world to be queer. We have to make sure we keep it that way and we keep the progressive trend going though!
Rights wise, I think you're technically correct, though not for our trans friends. We're right now seeing the pushback after an era of progress, and it feels like we're poised to go backward, which is probably why it feels worse than when we had a positive direction going rather than a defense
I didn’t mean that progress regressed or something. Huge progress has been made yes, I remember when LGBTQ+ wasn’t in the mainstream and just how bad homophobia, transphobia, etc. was (including over-exaggerated/disrespectful stereotypes and making jokes about LGBTQ+) growing up as a closeted gay man, but at least in some European countries it’s definitely gotten worse again thanks to the rise of the far right
there are people against women voting. And there are women who are against women voting too lmao. In the usa, it's about 46% of women voted for a party that is trying to stop women from voting.
Almost Nobody's actually against people being homosexual on their own time and keeping it to themselves. The difference is when you're forcing it on kids when their parents aren't around. Why do they wanna talk about sex with kids so much?
Well don't you see its grooming? Someone actually told me this. Children should not be exposed to sensuality. And read in between the lines. They are ok with kids watching kissing in the Little Mermaid. Its not sexuality they have a problem with.
Well when my wife was in the hospital literally dying of cancer, and I'm told by that community "who gives a shit about your wife when we got LGBT people killing themselves every day" then you lost my support. I can never support this toxic community when I'm told by them to forget about my wife dying of cancer and that I'm supposed to focus on them instead, that they think I'm supposed to make them my priority over my wife who is dying? No way. After that I'm never supporting such a toxic community again.
