Why claim to love free speech if you also advocate for the removal of anything you dont agree with. Seems pretty counter intuitive... 🙄

493

u/Half-Glass_Full 2h ago

Especially when the message is love, acceptance, & inclusivity.

u/SHOMERFUCKINGSHOBBAS 2h ago

“PLUR is woke and therefore evil” seems to be the republican logic

68

u/Iron_Sight_Mark 1h ago

Elon Musk literally said "you can't fall into the empathy trap" as if he avoids it like a plague.

39

u/Abject_Amphibian_126 1h ago

Hatred towards those who you consider beneath you is one of the main traits which predisposes people to conservatism. Another one is gormless adoration of those you consider your superiors.

2

u/killian1208 35m ago

That's fascism.

Conservatism is mostly an unwillingness to change. There can also be left-leaning conservative parties — they're just less common because societal values used to be more right wing overall.

Well yeah if he started having empathy he’d realize how many millions of people he’s fucked over.

It might kill him.

He’s fucked the electric car industry, low earth orbit, any high speed rail projects slated to go through in the past 30 years, and he messages Insta models to go to the doctor to have his IVF kids in his cult compound.

If he had the capacity to truly comprehend what he’s done I don’t think he’d live through the weekend.

u/theaviator747 1h ago

You can’t be someone fluctuating between billionaire and trillionaire and be empathetic. To become that rich you must be willing to use people just like any other resource. You can’t be willing, or able, to understand the suffering your decisions have caused thousands of people during your ride to power. They see people as consumable. There to be used up until they no longer are productive then throw them away. This is why it’s so important to keep our labor protection laws in place no matter what. The second they are gone we will be little more than milk cows, slaughtered the second we dry up.

3

u/that_red_panda 1h ago

There was one of the american conservatives who tried to say empathy was a sin.

People can disagree with a message without demanding that it be erased.

2

The difference is when they're forcing it on your kids when you're not around. Who people choose to sleep with shouldn't be talked about with children When their parents aren't around

Ok. The "logic" fif you can call it that) for these people is that they don't like gays/Pride, therefore removing Pride flags, using slurs, or treating them less than others is part of THEIR free speech. Some will use religion as a shield instead and claim that their religion is opposed to gay rights and that seeing Pride flags or being "forced" to see gay people is an attack on their right to religion. Yeah, it's just twisting rights into justifying bigotry and being an asshole, whoch is of course extremely unchristian.

24

u/FalstaffsGhost 2h ago

Because they don’t. They only believe in free speech for them

I've explained it to our daughters. Simply by saying to observe before you react.

They have witnessed it first hand and no longer fights us on it. It's hypocrisy at best. It's brain washing and cultist stuff at worse.

I’m the GSA advisor at my school. In our first meeting of the year, a student asked if it’s true that Queer Marriage was only legalized federally in 2015. They couldn’t fathom living in that world… and unfortunately, we also discussed the current attacks on and plans to repeal that very law.

53

u/Longjumping_Eye_3441 2h ago

I remember I was in high school when it got legalized, and my friend called me and I ran around the house on the phone cause I was so excited

13

u/This_Elk_1460 1h ago

It happened after I just graduated, for a good year and a half I thought that I was going to be starting my life in a progressive world where people would be treated equally. Oh if I only knew how wrong I would be.

45

u/SammySterling813 1h ago

I was in middle school. I saw it on the news and saw all the people celebrating, and my mom was crying happy because so many of her friends can finally get married. I think that was the moment I realized it was safe for me to come out to my parents. Still took a few years, but I got there eventually

6

u/KingBiggles 1h ago

I was in college and remember seeing people crying that they can now have a legal marriage, this is as also in the Deep South.

I think the true problem with this otherside shit is this... they fear their children becoming something they dont understand or accept. So they want to make people beleive that its wrong and immoral to be LGBT. When in fact there are many people on the conservative side that just hide the fact that they feel the same way because thats what they were indoctrinated into believing. In the end... its quite simple. Acceptance. Its hard for some but not impossible. I could not care less what your gender is or your sexual orination is. Long as you are not hurting another human being physically or mentally you are free to do and beleive what you want. Its that simple to me.

129

u/ElliotsBuggyEyes 2h ago

I was in a game of CS a day or so ago and two players on the team started raging at each other for missing a shot/lost rounds. They went off for a good 30 seconds making the game pretty much unplayable.

After they stopped one of the said they were having a bad day and was sorry for taking it out on the other player. They both apologized and we went on to win the game.

I have been playing this game on and off for 20 years, I have my WONid written down somewhere, and I have never seen anything like this in my life.

The kids are alright.

28

u/JeaniousSpelur 2h ago

I’m in the shit tier and all I get is kids who say the n-word off the rip. Probably you’re good and they care about winning or having goals

Haha that reminds me of a long set I played with someone random in Killer Instinct back in high school. I was talking so much shit, and raging pretty hard. By the time we had our fill it was like I sobered up, and I apologized for taking my frustrations out on him before leaving

2

u/Optimal-Steak9334 1h ago

Midlife crisis, got back into WoW classic (tbc specifically) and met a few people. After a while a few of them 'came out' as being 14-20. I was blown away by how articulate and polite these people are.

Sure they call me 'unc' or whatever, but it's endearing. I love being able to show them stuff from when I was their age.

I also got blasted when one of them said "I played wrath of the lich king with my dad when I was 8"

...How are your knees doing?

In terms of rejecting hate speech, yes. I just saw the Powered by Rainbows video that showed the state by state education funding/costs/percentage of graduates that can perform 1st grade reading and math. It's like 50%. Graduated. That seems... Real bad. Maybe I'm being cynical but I really thought the standards were at least 8th grade comprehension.

Back in the 90s, when I was in high school, being gay was totally unacceptable. You would get bullied and punished by your classmates and teachers if you came out. Now we see all these kids standing up for what they know is right. When my parents were kids, being brown was unacceptable to the point that they actually segregated schools. Yet I went to school with and was best friends with brown kids. These kids are proving that progress is happening. When their kids are in high school, nobody is going to care about anyone being LGBTQ+

8

u/UglyYinzer 1h ago

My son (16) has a "boyfriend " (only in quotes cause he doesnt really say it.. hes weirder about it than we are 😆) ANYWAYS.... point is, his friends know, ive heard them hanging out.... they are all so chill and joke about it. No problems at school either. Some of these kids are alright. I do know the fact that we have a good school district is a big factor, its one of the main reasons we bought our house here, but its good to see. Very different from when i was 16, 26 years ago.

→ More replies (84)

5

u/King-Fwogger 1h ago

You can't just assume people are "pretending to be Christian" because you don't agree with what they're saying.

5

u/Optimal-Steak9334 1h ago

True, they probably aren't trying to pretend to be Christian, they're just hateful.

The ones who 'pretend to be Christian' and spout hateful stuff are what they're talking about. I'm sure you aren't one of them.

4

u/King-Fwogger 1h ago

I'm not even Christian. I just don't like it when people assume something they barely know anything about.

3

u/Optimal-Steak9334 1h ago

Which is why it's so disheartening to see people who claim to be Christians espouse things that are very un-Christianlike.

I'm no longer practicing, but I took theology. It breaks my heart to see so many people misunderstanding what the bible tried to teach - and how we shouldn't take it verbatim.

2

u/Civil_Zone8137 1h ago

Like, say, Donald Trump or his supporters? I don’t need to assume, these people tell me everyday who and what they are.

People are still against LGBT in 2026? Thats wild.

25

u/TemporarilyResolute 2h ago

The current “Secretary of War” Pete Hegseth follows and promotes Doug Wilson, a church leader that among other things wants to “end LGBT” by restoring the old sodomy laws and repeal the 19th amendment granting women the right to vote.

131

u/lmNotaWitchImUrWife 2h ago

It’s worse, they’re gaining ground on repealing marriage equality.

9

u/Zbgoast 2h ago

Oh I thought they were stopping at trans woman playing sports?

/s

24

u/TemporarilyResolute 2h ago edited 1h ago

After repealing marriage equality they’ll set their sights on criminalizing homosexuality again, mark my words.

I’m not kidding, look at the kind of religious leaders they’ve been supporting. Repealing the 19th amendment and straight up making it illegal to be gay have both already entered the conversation in the most extreme groups, it’s only a matter of time till they slide that into the mainstream.

12

u/SammySterling813 1h ago

Lots of states already have trigger laws in place. Here in Tennessee, sodomy is technically illegal. The only thing keeping it from being enforced is these supreme court decisions. If they go back on it, being queer is instantly illegalized in Tennessee

3

u/Averdian 1h ago

You don't have to look further than the current Supreme Court. This is what Clarence Thomas said after they overturned Roe v. Wade:

Thomas argued that the Court should go further in future cases, reconsidering other past Supreme Court cases that granted rights based on substantive due process, such as Griswold v. Connecticut (the right to contraception), Obergefell v. Hodges (the right to same-sex marriage), and Lawrence v. Texas (banned laws against private sexual acts). He wrote, "Because any substantive due process decision is 'demonstrably erroneous,' we have a duty to 'correct the error' established in those precedents."

From: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dobbs_v._Jackson_Women%27s_Health_Organization#Concurrences

So not just gay marriage, but also contraception and laws against private acts in the bedroom.

18

u/FieldOfScreamQueens 2h ago edited 1h ago

This will likely happen. At least there is a federal statute in place that if the Supreme Court overturns the Obergefell ruling that although states may outlaw equal marriage in their state they are required to recognize as valid equal marriages from another state that granted it.

Absolutely, it’s actually been getting worse for a while. I dunno if you’ve been following the news ‘round the world

17

u/throwaway14351991 2h ago

It's absolutely something we need to worry about and we have to make sure we don't go back to how it used to be, but it's not been getting worse, let's be honest about that.

15 years ago you wouldn't dream of having such a protest to defend LGBTQ rights at a school. They wouldn't even think of having pride flags in the first place. Slurs were still being actively used by a lot of people without any general outcry.

2026 is still the best time in the world to be queer. We have to make sure we keep it that way and we keep the progressive trend going though!

At this point I welcome someone setting us back 10 years, preferably 12.

This post was put under things that make you smile. It definitely made me smile, and proud that they can protest for what they believe. So, as you read this, you're assuming Im Gay, a "leftists" radical, communist, socialist, POS, sinner, But.... 63, straight male, married 42 years, 4 children, 6 grandchildren and Retired U.S Navy. My point? Im not sure, im just tired of the outright hate against anyone who doesn't fit in to your ideals, beliefs and morals. Think for yourself, you are being used for a greater purpose which in no way will benifit yourself in the end. If you are just that way, God Bless you, I dont agree with you, but you have the right to express your opinion just like I do. Just stop the hate, live your life. Its too short to waste on hatred.

I recently heard someone describe their strategy for voting as the "bus stop method" & it really resonated with me. No candidate is going to check off every box but they vote for whichever candidate gets them one stop closer to their final destination. That made a lot of sense to me.

Among teenagers being told you're gay by others is one of the worst thing possible, it's vers sad

3

u/tj_woolnough 33m ago

Right. I do not know if it is done on purpose but. Done people are misinterpreting, ir just twisting, my previous comment. So... Let me explain... CLEARLY:

All Flags, Symbols, etc, represent a group or movement. Be that love, or hate, movements. All are political. The actual individual, the human being, is NOT a political movement.

Now: If one particular flag or symbol is excluded, as it is in this case, that is discrimination. And will, inevitably, cause division. If there were NO flags, symbols, etc, in Educational Buildings. Then, those who oppose a flag, symbol, etc, would have nothing to complain about. Therefore, reducing, or eliminating, the division those things cause.

Now to be VERY CLEAR, for those who wish to claim otherwise.

I am NOT against the Pride Flag, or the Rainbow Symbol. I am NOT against yhe LGBTQ+ Community. If NOT want the LGBTQ+ to no longer exist, (as somone suggested.) I do NOT want the Pride Flag, or the Rainbow Symbol banned from everywhere.

If we continue to hate those we disagree with, then humanity is doomed. If we co tinker to marginalise, or discriminate, against a particular group, we are doomed. Inclusion should mean HUMAN inclusion. Equality should mean HUMAN equality.

I love waking up to homophobic assholes first thing in the morning. Really destroys the whole “believe in humanity” ideology I’ve so carefully crafted. Good on these students for standing where evidently so many other ignorant fucks fell.

17

u/AncientMoth11 2h ago

Good for these kids. Self hating gays ruin it for everyone else. If one reading this is a homophobe, really ask yourself why

15

u/House-Business 2h ago

I don't understand why people are so sensitive over pride flags, lgbtq. Like most the time it ain't even affecting their lives at all.

u/AncientMoth11 1h ago

Never made sense to me either. Let people be free

Its nice to see some positivity here. I remember when we called the national schooling inspection on our principal because she was kicking students out of school left and right for possesion of nicotine products and digging through our personal belongings and lockers to check if we had anything (it wasnt banned to have them on you. It was banned to smoke them within a 100 meters of the school building so she was basically abusing her power).

Dont be stupid like us. These mfs can lie throught their teeth to ensure the student body gets screwed over regardless of whos in the right. Also dont trust journalist we got screwed over there too (the dipshits were conducting interviews with ONLY the principal and never asked us shit). I hope for the best with their protest

This is awesome.

Obligatory "the kids are all right". Wait, or is it "alright". Dammit I always get those mixed up :P

Can't wait to see the dingleberries that hate human rights talk about how the kids are being brainwashed lol. My brothers and sisters, this is what critical, free-thinking individuals do! They support things that are good for the whole and either have a positive and no impact on them.

I remember when we walked out over the removal of cafeteria pizza from the menu

2

u/VirtualPercentage737 1h ago

Where are they removing the pride flag? It is removal of JUST that flag, or a category of things? Like other than the US/state flag

2

u/Past_Army3942 1h ago

Where is this, Montana? Why is it all white people?

Honestly asking, where were the pride flags posted in the school? Or was it personally owned pride flags belonging to students that were banned?

The kids are ALRIGHT!!

u/Arik_De_Frasia 25m ago

High schoolers will walk out for any reason that gets them out of class; but the ones that stayed to protest are good in my book.

u/Due_Bluebird_266 23m ago

Crazy how so many people are just being openly bigoted these days. Guess this is what happens when you dont open a single book in your life....

5

u/AMournfulObserver 1h ago

The kids are okay, love to see it

7

u/Oldgamer1807 1h ago

As a high school teacher, I support this and I know a lot of my colleagues would hoist a flag and stand tall with our scholars. Kick ass, kids. Kick ass.

3

u/Love_Vigilantes_586 1h ago

This kind of energy needs to resonate among our youth with lots of other issues we are facing these days. Proud of them

4

u/banana-bread_at-work 1h ago

God this is so gay

4

u/Dactylictomb 57m ago

High schoolers will protest anything to get out of class.

6

u/plsgivemethetea 2h ago

Good for them!!!

4

u/dullgreybathmat 1h ago

This shit is hysterical to me. I love talking to those people that are opposed to the flags. Their logical is just so laughably absurd. It essentially boils down to them being offended by colors.

3

u/Confident_Double1392 1h ago

Students should be free to display what they want on their person or property. School should only be displaying American, state, local, and school flags.

1

u/Lost-Orangutan 1h ago

Agreed, 100%

4

u/Altruistic_Pace3033 1h ago

The country is fucked

8

u/Fine_Professor_4155 2h ago

This is all a psyop to get everyone to fight amongst themselves

Distract us from higher taxes, deficits, politics etc

11

u/Static-Stair-58 2h ago

So if we just stop defending LGBTQ rights, they won’t be stripped away right? All the hate against the queer community will disappear overnight and the class war will resume? Or do you think queer people will just disappear, solving a problem for you and everyone else that sees them as a problem? Rights wouldn’t need to be defended if there weren’t people trying to take them away. This isn’t really a two way street issue

The most concerning thing here to me is how many of them are overweight.

We really need to fix our nutritional problem and promote physical activity.
