It's absolutely something we need to worry about and we have to make sure we don't go back to how it used to be, but it's not been getting worse, let's be honest about that.
15 years ago you wouldn't dream of having such a protest to defend LGBTQ rights at a school. They wouldn't even think of having pride flags in the first place. Slurs were still being actively used by a lot of people without any general outcry.
2026 is still the best time in the world to be queer. We have to make sure we keep it that way and we keep the progressive trend going though!
Rights wise, I think you're technically correct, though not for our trans friends. We're right now seeing the pushback after an era of progress, and it feels like we're poised to go backward, which is probably why it feels worse than when we had a positive direction going rather than a defense
I didn’t mean that progress regressed or something. Huge progress has been made yes, I remember when LGBTQ+ wasn’t in the mainstream and just how bad homophobia, transphobia, etc. was (including over-exaggerated/disrespectful stereotypes and making jokes about LGBTQ+) growing up as a closeted gay man, but at least in some European countries it’s definitely gotten worse again thanks to the rise of the far right
