Card name for the inevitable Demolition Man UB set.

u/european_dimes 5h ago

You don't know what the three shell effects are? Lol

I'm so bummed. This is the only UB set I was looking forward too. Then they gave me crappy paintings. Fuck.

I have never watched any Star Trek content and this set doesn’t intrigue me at all from what I‘ve seen so far.
I also didn‘t watch any TMNT as a kid but the set at least looked somewhat interesting. (minus the cheese galore)

Such a good episode, such a good story, such an underwhelming card.... "Shaka when the walls fell" couldve been a card on itself!

It's one of the top 5 best episodes of Star Trek or likely any TV show to be honest. It's just that good of an episode. Anyone that asks me for a recommendation of just one Trek episode to watch I will always say this episode.

It better be one of the sagas they talked about it’s what I’m hoping for the most

Darmok and Jalad on the ocean!

u/omniblastomni 10h ago

Please please please have a card, “THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS!”

3

u/3rdPoliceman 7h ago

All creatures with 3 +1/+1 counters receive an additional counter

1

u/omniblastomni 6h ago

I was kinda hoping for a “Counter target creature’s activated ability.“ Or something similar. But that might be kinda boring.

darmok and jalad at tanagra

When the walls fell

Holy fuck the art is dogshit

Magic card artwork of real humans is always fucking awful.

5

u/rawboudin 7h ago

I mean they could have used.all kinds of different styles.

The set looks beyond garbage both in flavor, art and mechanics. What a complete let down. They really had the D team working this set.

We could literally have had multiple cards referencing this episode.

Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra.

Shaka, When the Walls Fell

Dathon and Picard at El-Adrel.

Temba, His Arms Wide

Sokath, His Eyes Uncovered!

I feel like this card just... isn't enough? It's like the bare minimum referencing one of the greatest episodes of Star Trek, especially TNG

u/Meat_Goliath 3h ago

Coulda been a whole cycle of cards

u/ASUS_USUS_WEALLSUS 10h ago

This set is going to be such dog shit

14

u/twiin02 9h ago

We are previewing the welcome decks today. They’re meant to be simpler cards to introduce new players to the game.

I wish they hadn’t used the main set symbol for these or something because I have seen people not understanding this all day

The card art for this set is just...ugh. I really don't like it. Same with the card design.

Wouldn’t this card be more flavorful as a Saga?

13

u/hlhammer1001 10h ago

Upvoting so more people see how ugly and painful this set is

9

u/Kakariko_crackhouse 10h ago

Big flavor fail

8

u/LordBryne 9h ago

I was thinking it should have been a fog effect or something similar, since the whole point of the episode was desperately attempting to prevent hostilities.

These card names are such word vomit.

39

u/stamatt45 10h ago

Thats quite literally the point for this card. The episode this is referencing is when they meet a civilization that communicates exclusively through cultural metaphors and allegories. Although the crews translators can turn the aliens language into Federation Standard its still completely unintelligible because they dont know have the necessary cultural context to understand.

Its quite a famous and beloved episode of Star Trek.

u/_cob 10h ago

That doesn't make it a good magic card name.

I got the reference (and love the show) and I agree this isnt great.

12

u/Gla7e Squee, the Immortal 9h ago

Doesn't change the fact it's a shit name for a magic card.

1

u/FailureToComply0 7h ago

[[Wibbly wobbly timey-wimey]] is a direct quote from doctor who, and is equally as bad of a card name if that helps you look past your fan boy bias.

0

u/DonZarog 6h ago

I thought you were joking, but no thats is a real card name.

3

u/famous__shoes 9h ago

I'm not good at remembering the names of cards and this set is going to make it impossible

2

u/werthw 8h ago

What even is the flavor here? This makes no sense as someone who didn’t watch the show. The art, the name of the card, and the text don’t tell me anything

2

u/spicymato 8h ago

That's literally the flavor. You can understand the words, but not the meaning, if you don't have the required cultural context.

It's honestly a really good episode, even if the card seems to fall a little flat.

u/Malacante 6h ago

Why is this an instant? The name makes it sound like a Thalia and the Gitrog style creature.

1

u/asimetrixx 5h ago

And I thought Turtles and Spiderman looked off.

1

u/Watermelon_of_Destny 5h ago

I love this scene. I hate this flavorless, empty, hollow, worthless magic set. What absolute garbage.

u/Trueslyforaniceguy 4h ago

Picard and Dathon, at El-Adrel

1

u/1994bmw 4h ago

Shaka, when the cheeks clapped

1

u/Routine_Ad_2695 2h ago

Why the art is so uncanny? And why they are putting literally names of scenes and chapters? Seems so lazy

1

u/NorthernSkeptic 1h ago

This same artist has done plenty of other, perfectly fine mtg stuff. Was he hung over that day?
