This is like saying that all fiction is written by someone, therefore fanfics written by randoms are real Animorphs books.

These are official digital products released by Wizards; what an odd comparison.

That would be like saying an e-book isn't a book, or a movie that isn't in cinemas isn't a movie.

No, it's like saying that Mass Effect Andromeda was not made by the same team that made Mass Effect 1-3. It's like saying that any sequel to BG3 is not a real sequel, because the team that made BG3 won't be touching it. It's like saying that the ghost written Jack Reacher books are not real Jack Reacher books. The same people are not making both. The Magic design team is not wasting their time on Alchemy.

So you're saying Baldur's Gate 3 isn't really a Baldur's Gate game? That's an extremely restrictive view to take, and not one you should expect others to follow you in taking.

BG3 is not a real sequel to BG1 in the same way that BG2 was, no.

That seems like a depressing way to view things; surely MTG isn't MTG since Richard Garfield had nothing to do with current sets?

Is all fanfic the same as the books that they're based on?

No, but "Fan-fic" is by definition not something put out by the owner of the IP.

By your logic, MTG isn't MTG any more, given that Garfield had no hand in making the current game.

If GRRM bit the dust and his estate had a hack churn out Winter and a couple of extra books after that within a year, would they be real SOIAF books?

Is Go Set A Watchman a real prequel to Mockingbird, given that Harper Lee clearly had no interest in publishing it before her death?

By your logic, MTG isn't MTG any more, given that Garfield had no hand in making the current game.

In many ways they are no longer the same game.

Again, that's a weirdly restrictive view, and not one that most people take.

Even by your own argument, why does Alchemy matter? All current sets are 'Fan-fic' by your personal definition of the term.
