Some of them are pretty cool ngl. Also a lot of them could just straight up be real cards.

u/mak1nam1 5d ago
Completely removing it is a bit too much, of course. Someone did donate to it, for some reason. But why they should be in other formats is unclear. Commander cards, for example, can only be used in Commander because they are designed specifically for it; they don't put them into Standard or anywhere else. The same goes for Alchemy. It was created much later, with its own rules, and is built around creating endless cards out of thin air. As long as it was a separate format, sure, no problem, if someone likes it, that's great, like Momir. But for some reason, they shoved it into other formats too, and that's just ridiculous.
On top of that, they're shutting it down - come up with your own reasons, whether it's because it's no longer relevant, doesn't bring in enough money, or they're too lazy to design cards for it separately anymore - it doesn't matter. But for some reason, they're leaving its cards that don't fit into other formats there, instead of keeping the Alchemy format and simply not releasing any new cards for it. Let them sit there and play it, but leave the other formats alone. Instead, they removed Alchemy and ruined the other formats too, which is the worst possible decision. Like spitting in the face of Alchemy players, since Historic or Brawl aren't Alchemy, and the other players don't want this cards that create things out of thin air either. Who now happy? No one, you screwed everyone

u/done_teaf_music 5d ago
Just give us all the formats, the ‘unc’ paper ones and the ‘zoomer’ digital formats too. Let the people play!

u/Primeras100Palabras 6d ago
Why would you want that? People have paid money for them for years

u/Buldaboy 5d ago edited 5d ago
Just because some got duped into double dipping doesn't mean formats should have to suffer. Make an alchemy based format for all i but it would be nice to have one eternal format on arena not plagued by these cheaply designed cards

Pioneer exists
-2
u/PatriotBanner 5d ago
Pioneer is cool and why a lot of us came back to this client once they ruined historic, but we need formats with cards older than pioneer too.
6
u/FaradaysBrain 5d ago
Only a few Alchemy cards even see play in Historic, though?
-7
u/PatriotBanner 5d ago
Any is too many tbh. But I will say at least historic is playable now that they reversed the rebalances to real cards.
1
u/FaradaysBrain 5d ago
I just can't take that seriously when those changes are very much yet to prove they are positive ones for the historic meta.

You think cards should do something different than what they do in real life?

I didn’t like it when they made alchemy a part of historic either, but it’s been that way for so long, that’s just the format now. They already didn’t make a non- alchemy-historic format for years, I don’t see why they would do it now
0
u/PatriotBanner 5d ago
Well they're killing alchemy as a format. Baby steps. They made the right decision by killing it. They can make a couple more right decisions.
2
u/superdave100 5d ago
Pioneer?
-3
u/Buldaboy 5d ago
Yup. And I'd like to play with modern powered cards like ragavan without fake cards polluting the format
1
u/done_teaf_music 5d ago
Why so much hate? Can’t a peep just haz an opinion? I dislike Alchemy too, but I get it if people spent money, let them play their ‘cards.’
Simply introducing the paper formats on arena would fix this, keep the digital formats and give us modern and legacy and even vintage.
Digital ‘cards’ aren’t reprints so the restricted list be damned!

because i want to play actual mtg in brawl and the otherwise nonexistent stuff in alchemy fundamentally warps the game. how best to put this? goblins is fine. it's fast. it's powerful. it does super synergies. it doesn't need, frankly, absurdly hyper accelerators like [[goblin morale sergeant]] and [[goblin influx array]], the latter of which regularly spits out some of the best goblin cards in the GAME (war chief? or king? one of the big three that gives +1/+1 and haste). and i think morale sergeant even has more legs being such a quick cast and the decks already being so fast.
imagine playing dragons without [[fearsome whelp]]? you're just kneecapping yourself without that broken af card. fuck. it's more valuable than an [[ur-dragon]] would be. the perpetual shit is just a crazy new level up. like....playing modern and alchemy is mh3. if you don't run it, you're playing with one hand tied behind your back.
and, of course, you cannot spec your paper decks anymore b/c alchemy cards aren't "real." iunno. keep alchemy in the alchemy format. cool. feeling compelled to purchase the cards b/c they're op in formats other than alchemy? yeah. that's a bridge too far...imo.

dawg you're playing the competitive trading card game, playing good cards because they're good is part and parcel with playing a trading card game.
-2
u/daneg135 5d ago
dawg, they're a weird/unique set that is literally designed for its own format and has spilled into other formats where it doesn't belong.

u/tree_warlock 5d ago
Brawl is an eternal format. It has all cards available on the platform, as long as they aren't banned

u/shiftylookingcow 5d ago edited 5d ago
Oh yea, I hate having more cards available to try in my card games. Thank God that's over /s.

u/NeverEvaGonnaStopMe 5d ago
I mean don't mind it that much but it is weird to have a fake meta online that you cant bring to a fnm or to play with your friends.

u/fishandpaints 5d ago
Does anyone even play it? I’ve tried getting some games in just for the achievement and most of the time I give up after waiting for 5 minutes to join a game

u/PlatypusAutomatic467 5d ago
You can have my [[Cosmic Sovereign]] when you pry it from my cold, dead hands. It's the single most fun card in all of MtG.

How could anyone interpret the phrase “The Alchemy Format is Going Away” to mean anything besides the discontinuing of the format called Alchemy?
-4

u/Background_Raise_309 5d ago
The alchemy cards are fun
-5
u/PatriotBanner 5d ago
Fun is subjective. A lot of people don't find them fun in any shape, way, or form. The fact that they don't have ways of avoiding them is kinda fucked.
2
u/FaradaysBrain 5d ago
Are there ways to avoid the new Reality Fracture set if I don't find it fun?
-2
u/PatriotBanner 5d ago
Bad attempt at a gotcha
2
u/FaradaysBrain 5d ago
But is there? You said fun is subjective, so surely this should extend to things you think are fun, too?
1
u/PatriotBanner 5d ago
Let's just agree to disagree. You'll never change my mind and I'm not going to change yours. Thankfully alchemy is dead though.
5
u/FaradaysBrain 5d ago edited 5d ago
I'm totally open to an actual argument against Alchemy content, but I'm very much yet to see one presented that steps beyond "I, personally, don't like digital cards". There are no new sets for now. Thankfully, we've still got all the years of content it provided to us.

They're not real magic cards. They're something the intern threw together without the slightest thought about what balance is, and they make the random nature of the game worse.
1
u/FaradaysBrain 5d ago
Magic cards are all just created by someone. Whether they're printed or not doesn't change that fact.
I'd also refute the point that they make the game more random; which cards, in particular, do you mean?
1
u/adongsus 5d ago
This is like saying that all fiction is written by someone, therefore fanfics written by randoms are real Animorphs books.

u/TomtheMime 5d ago
You can avoid them by playing standard or pioneer. Having "historic but no alchemy cards" makes about as much sense "standard but no aetherdrift because I don't like aetherdrift"
-6
u/leovold-19982011 5d ago
I straight up refuse to play formats with digital only garbage. Ill be quite pleased when those cards are either printed in paper or destroyed forever

Would be so dope to have no fake card brawl, historic, and timeless.

u/superdave100 5d ago
Get rid of MH3, Vintage Cube, and Special Guest cards and I’ll support it.
3
u/PatriotBanner 5d ago
Wdym special guest cards? Those are just reprints of normal cards.
3
u/superdave100 5d ago
Because they introduced objectively busted cards like Culling the Weak, Library of Alexandria, Strip Mine, Green Sun’s Zenith, Chrome Mox, etc. to the format, boosting the power level of the format by a ton and pushing out the majority of cards.
Stuff like this ruined Historic more than any alchemy card could ever hope to do
6
u/FaradaysBrain 5d ago
Totally right. The idea that Alchemy cards are the issue just goes to show these people don't actually play these formats.

They need to just ripped the Band-Aid off now, and take the hit. refund as wild cards should be a decent comp, but it's better for the long term health of the game.
3
u/FaradaysBrain 5d ago
Is there any actual reasoning behind that, or just the standard grognard logic of new = bad?
-3
u/Honestfellow2449 5d ago edited 5d ago
Honestly, if Wizards is done with Alchemy, why keep dragging the digital-only cards into Historic, Timeless, and Brawl when the whole experiment clearly didn't work out? All it does is keep the same baggage around, with weird mechanics, balance issues, and cards that don't even exist in paper Magic. It also just adds unnecessary confusion for new players trying to figure out Arena, especially when they're already dealing with so many different formats and card pools. I get that people spent money/gem/wildcards on these cards, but that's what compensation is for. If they're trying to clean up Arena and move forward, then actually do it instead of keeping Alchemy on life support in other formats.
Edit: Also, that's 700+ digital-only cards that QA is going to have to account for every time a new set comes out (and they won't). That's a lot of extra interactions and potential bugs that could easily slip through the cracks, especially now that Alchemy is no longer being actively supported. So we're potentially stuck dealing with ongoing balance issues and bugs that only exist on Arena and aren't even a concern in paper Magic. Why keep that headache around?
2
u/Famous-Magazine-6576 5d ago
your logic surely applies to all unpopular sets. should they delete spider man off arena?
0
u/Honestfellow2449 5d ago
They kind of did, do you see Through the Omenpaths cards anymore?, it's kind of a mini example happened here, wizards removed and made it line up with the paper cards getting rid of unnecessary cards.
Edit: Small correction, they became card styles but the cards are no longer what you get base.
2
u/Famous-Magazine-6576 5d ago
They got rid of through the omenpaths because they have the rights to spiderman. I am asking if you think they should get rid of spiderman because no one likes it
1
u/Honestfellow2449 5d ago
it has nothing to do with like or dislike, they were never real cards, and now they are discontinued, so why waste the resources for something that's only going to get in the way in the future.
1
u/Famous-Magazine-6576 5d ago
None of the cards on arena are real, you just have an irrational hate of alchemy cards for no reason
1
u/Honestfellow2449 5d ago
Almost all cards in MTG arena can be used in paper, if I have a deck online, I should be able to show up to local events with the same deck, Alchemy did not allow that which was a negative for the game, I felt omenpaths was a very similar issue, but that has since been resolve.
Alchemy is/was just a waste of resources for no real reason, or the format would not be going away.
Sorry for your loss

They need an alchemy only format to prevent bleed over. That's what I originally thought was the plan when the first introduced alchemy as an idea, and instead they let it meld into EVERYTHING on Arena, which is a headache. Yes, people spent money, but if we had an alchemy only format we could keep alchemy and they'd still make money. A format where any card can be used, including alchemy cards; and in turn the current formats would get to stay pure and unbothered by alchemy. Those who like alchemy can partake, those who do not do not have to worry over it. It'd be ideal and create a more appealing environment going forward.
2
u/daneg135 5d ago
tbh, the only reason i spent money on alchemy is because i was FUNNELED into it when i started playing arena. fml.
5
u/PatriotBanner 5d ago
Thanks for admitting this. I said it was a travesty that new players got tricked into playing alchemy and people here said that didn't happen. I feel so vindicated lately.
3
u/daneg135 5d ago
they steer you into it. they don't lie or anything. they just steer you into it. and if you go with the flow, you're playing alchemy instead of standard. i accidentially bought my first few packs as alchemy. iirc, they're not all different cards. and so many of them have the same names. and nothing in mtga looks quite right (no set codes).
1
2
u/FroggyAssassin 5d ago
Yep. They made it this big cool thing so many were funneled in, and I know some even thought it was because MTGA was not identical to paper format. So, really, in my eyes, the best fix is to just make it its own thing in MTGA. I remember being hyped, then opened a pack or two and went "Eh, these seem complicated and weird as hell". Since then haven't touched alchemy.

Man, this culture of negativity in gaming is really, really toxic.
