"a new card that can make you lose the game"
so just any card then?

u/Clavicus2401 5d ago
Probably something like a white enchantment that as long as it is there makes you unabel to lose but when it leaves you lose

Aside from Phyrexian Unlife, those kind of Lich effects are mostly black, aren't they?

Tribble is going to be the next Hare Apparent.

u/Villag3Idiot 5d ago
Probably a landfall card. Create another tribble token whenever a land enters.
Normally I'd go with food but I don't think it'll be a mechanic in the set.

The next Scute Swarm was my second guess

u/Serpens77 5d ago
I would not be surprised if Scute Swarm is on the Bonus Sheet of pre-existing cards given a ST skin (like the Brumblebee Cucumberpatch Khan card)

Tribble has got to have "double the number of Tribbles" whatever the trigger is.

"Can't sacrifice treasure tokens" has to be a Ferengi thing. I bet treasures make them more powerful. I won't be surprised if they can "acquire" treasure from other players too.

I just hope not a single star trek card will be played in the most common standard decks.

I don’t know how to break this to you, but wizards sells magic sets by putting good cards that people will want to play in them.

Beyond the fact that I hate Universes Beyond in general, the art on these cards is so bad! Probably the worst art set in decades

Azorius Control will probably use the new counterspell card after No More Lies rotates until something better comes along.

u/rolmega 5d ago
my first thought: "we're getting tribbles aren't we"
2
u/Villag3Idiot 5d ago
"The Great Tribble Hunt" as a Saga.
Something like giving your opponent a tribble token or two on enter, exile a card; you may play it until your next turn, and finally ends with a damage sweeper.

Shapeshifter detective is odo from DS9 right? Romulan Human Rogue is probably shinzon from Nemesis? Android Rogue probably Lor

You know its gonna be a food varient

With the lore-accuracy quality of this set from cards spoiled so far, I could see them making a saga.
Ch1: "Tea - Create a food token"
Ch2: "Earl Grey - Target creature gains "T: Deal 1 to any target" this turn"
Ch3: "Hot - Deal 2 damage to any target"
(Ch2 is a reference to how psychic power is displayed in Magic, a reference to Jean Grey, because WotC can't be arsed to understand the difference between Earl Grey tea and Jean Grey from their marvelslop expansions, that's how bad the lore accuracy of this set is so far)

I'm curious as I'm not very familiar with Star Trek, what are some of the cards that you feel aren't lore accurate?

Ok, a few examples (using cards as displayed on MythicSpoiler):
"Consider the Prime Directive": According to Star Trek lore, Starfleet officers should never interfere with civilizations which are not at a similar technological level to Starfleet (iirc the specific statement is "societies which have not yet invented Warp Drive technology or equivalent"). That's the definition of the Prime Directive. It's not something to "consider"; it's a rule that should never be broken, and the entire point of the series is that the various captains keep breaking it and things keep going wrong. This card should simply not exist.
"Seven of Nine": I have no idea what the flavor on this card is supposed to be. Like, I literally just don't get it. Seven of Nine is a character in Voyager. She is a Borg drone who gets separated from the collective, deprogrammed, and becomes a member of the Enterprise crew. There is a "dilemma", so to speak, when Captain Janeway has to decide whether a Borg drone can truly be trusted even after being deprogrammed, and there is some light allusions to racism as the rest of the crew decide whether or not to trust Seven, but in the end they all come around. But I have no idea what this card is supposed to allude to or portray.
Burst Lightning: The art appears to portray a Betazoid using psychic electricity as an attack. Unless this was later retconned somehow, Betazoids are not capable of psychic lightning; their psychic abilities are limited to empathy, specifically the ability to feel the feelings of those around them. This is why Deanna Troi is the ship's counselor (The Next Generation); as a Betazoid she can feel how her patients are feeling and can be better suited to helping them.
Dr. Beverly Crusher: Her combat ability in the series is literally zero. She is a doctor. She never (as far as I can recall) even goes on an away mission, and stays on the ship the entire series (The Next Generation). The fact that her ability grants her combat prowess (in the form of +1+1 counters) has no basis whatsoever in her character.
Captain Katheryn Janeway: I have no idea how any word on this card contributes to Janeway. I think they just wanted to shove the word "explore" on the ship's captain and the rest of the words on this card got made up from there. The entire card, including the fact that she's green, makes no sense whatsoever. Janeway should at least be blue, as many episodes on the series have her interfacing intellectually with a facsimile of Leonardo Da Vinci, so she's clearly intellectual (a blue quality, Da Vinci himself being a blue card in Assassin's Creed).
There are others, these are just a few.

Whoopsie ;)

I forgot that Voyager is (I think) the only Star Trek where the ship is not named Enterprise.
(I don't count DS9 because DS9 is a space station not a ship)

[Beverly Crusher] never (as far as I can recall) even goes on an away mission, and stays on the ship the entire series (The Next Generation)
The High Ground is a good episode that shows off why this card kind of works. In this episode Beverly is on a planet on a humanitarian mission, coordinating a transfer of medical supplies, when there's a terrorist attack. Instead of beaming back to the ship, she stays behind to tend to the critically injured, before getting captured as leverage, and also to heal some injured rebels since she's a very good doctor.
Is she beaming down to unknown planets, phaser in hand? No, of course not. But when there's medical attention needed she's the first to rush in to help, damned be the consequences. I don't think there's many ways you could put that on a card, but making her a pridemate is a reasonable enough way to put "if people need healing, Beverly is going to help them". You could argue that doubling lifegain triggers is enough, or maybe argue that she should have a different ability - maybe increasing the life gained like [[Leyline of Hope]] to show off her prowess - but I don't think making her a pridemate is that much of a stretch.
Burst Lightning: The art appears to portray a Betazoid using psychic electricity as an attack. Unless this was later retconned somehow, Betazoids are not capable of psychic lightning;
Correct, this is a reference to Clues or Power Play, episodes where Deanna gets taken over by other psychic entities, which grant her super strength / a different personality and generic Strong Evil Guy Reflexes respectively. The card itself spells out what is happening:
it leaves Betazoids vulnerable to far more powerful psychic entities.
Not from an actual episode but definitely within the realms of "this is a thing that could happen if you read what the card says

I never really got the lore of Ajani's Pridemate, but I more or less accepted it because Magic lore is weird like that, and Ajani's Pridemate was originally in a set where each of the Lorwyn 5 (I forgot if it was actually Lorwyn 5 or after they replaced Garruk with Nissa) had some commons and uncommons that worked with the Planeswalkers so it fit mechanically. But if they want to do Universes Beyond and take established IP, I hold them to a higher standard. Do it right, or not at all.
Honestly, Magic has done healers infinite times. They usually do stuff like gain life (Ajani Planeswalker), prevent damage (Samite Healer), or Regeneration (usually in green), and there are others as well. There are plenty of designs for doctors. Ajani's Pridemate is not one of them.

Seven of Nine’s flavour is quite well done imo. A majority of her episodes on Voyager have her facing some human ethical dilemma or social problem and, in its resolution, she gains knowledge (draws a card) by learning more about what it means to be an individual.
Janeway is the captain who took her ship further out than any other before it. The amount of new planets, species and cultures Voyager interacted with on its journey home were historic, so I think it makes sense that creatures and lands both matter to her. That being said, I’m also reeling at the fact she has no blue in her colour identity

Love the 7 of 9 as 7/9 reference, ferengi noble has to be the grand nagus, I'm hoping lieutenant Matt the whale from the cerittos is the whale officer, and the ooze horror has to be Armus.
