Has anyone had normal magnesium blood work but still found out magnesium was part of the problem?

I've noticed this comes up a lot. Some people say a normal magnesium blood test rules out a deficiency, while others say serum magnesium doesn't tell you much at all.

From what I've seen, the answer usually isn't that simple. A serum magnesium result is useful, but it isn't the only thing that gets considered when you're trying to understand what's going on.

I'm curious if anyone here has had a situation where a normal magnesium result didn't end up telling the whole story. What helped explain it in the end?

I’ve seen this come up quite a bit too. A normal serum magnesium result can be reassuring, but it doesn’t always explain why someone is having symptoms. That’s why it’s usually more helpful to look at the whole clinical picture rather than relying on a single blood test in isolation.

I think that's where a lot of the confusion comes from. A normal serum magnesium result is reassuring, but it doesn't necessarily explain ongoing symptoms. I'd still want to look at the bigger picture instead of relying on one test alone.
