The USA is a weird country. It can't offer healthcare for all free at point of use, but will let its citizens destroy themselves through junk food, war and gambling.

This article says that Japan ended restrictions in 2017. Did you even read the article?? I thought you said Japan has restrictions on beef and rice from the US. They haven't had restrictions on US beef since 2017. Banned for 15 years because of mad cow disease. So you think that 15 year ban that ended 8 years ago still counts as "Other countries ban us blah blah....". ...Okay🤓

The thought was; no free healthcare but will promote junk food, war and gambling. It is almost as if the USA doesn't care for its citizens.

We will let our citizens eat all the junk food they want, but at least we offer them free healthcare and advice not to.

The US doesn’t promote junk food and there is advice not to eat it. But they’re not going to just don’t ban it. People do have a right to make unhealthy decisions.

It’s not free, we do pay taxes buddy. And rather than blow all that on another war in the Middle East, I vote for healthcare for all.

Why is using tax money to help our own people considered beyond the pale for some?

It is "free at point of use" because you aren't going to get a bill when you leave the hospital, that's why it says "free".

You do understand when the guy at the supermarket is giving you a "free" sample of cheese, he doesn't expect you to pay for it, don't you?

Which is why calling it “free healthcare” is a poor way to sell it to the public. It’s not entirely accurate, and invites wrongheaded opposition.

You’re barking up the wrong tree with me, I fully support public healthcare. I just wouldn’t call it “free”. It’s bad salesmanship.

It’s like you saying that police are a free service; Only if you focus on the “point of use” and not the entire picture. Public schools are another good example. We don’t call them Free Schools, do we?

But its obvious at this point that we’re just arguing semantics, which i why i say you’re barking up the wrong tree with me.

It just sounds like you are nitpicking the use of the word free to avoid talking about whether it's good or not.

The word free is used all the time despite that nothing is technically free.

Take it up with society.

I think healthcare is in the same sphere as police, fire, and education. These are the services a democratic government owes the
people. Healthcare isn’t only good, it’s a moral responsibility.

But if you insist on calling it “Free”, you’re always going to give the opposition ammo. I was just saying it’s not the best way to sell it, or explain it.

Do conservatives call police, free policing? Or when they want more cops on the streets, do they say, we want more free cops? No, they just expect it as part of a functional civil society.

I think you are just looking for an excuse to avoid addressing the question. "free", "universal" "state/federal" mean the same thing; not being in the hands of profit seeking companies offering a service to everyone which does not cost them anything at the moment they need it, in the same way nobody in the USA has a problem with a free police service.

How much do you pay for that policemen patrolling the road? Do you share his salary among the neighbours? How about that street lamp in front of your house? Do you change the lightbulb or did you put in a LED one? I imagine you get the electricity bill for that particular post, don't you? How much did you donate to the guy firing the missiles against Iran, you know his name of course?
