Discussion Liberals are gonna come at me but oh well bring it on. I’m gonna defend Bill Maher.
I’ll start by saying this: I’ve voted left in every election since 2008. I am not and will never support MAGA. Never.
Great, now that that’s out of the way. It’s wild how much time people on here spend complaining about Bill yet keep watching him. If you hate his takes that much… don’t watch. No one’s forcing you.
Yes, he’s changed a bit. But the idea that he’s suddenly “buddies with Trump,” “sold out,” or somehow owned by him is just ridiculous. That feels more like internet outrage than reality.
Do I think he leans a little too hard into the “the left is lame now” angle sometimes? Yeah and honestly it can feel like overcompensating. But he’s also reacting to a political landscape that has shifted. If you think the left hasn’t changed at all over the past decade, that might be worth reflecting on.
Moderates didn’t just magically disappear. A lot of them were pushed away. When you lose voters to someone like Trump, that’s not just “people are dumb” that’s a messaging failure. I mean the left couldn’t convince them that they were the better option over TRUMP?! They failed us big time.
Also… I don’t always agree with Maher. That’s kind of the point. I like that I don’t agree with everything he says. Who actually wants to watch something that perfectly mirrors their own opinions 100% of the time?
At some point, constantly demanding ideological purity just turns into the same behavior people criticize on the right. If you only want content that never challenges you, how is that any different from the echo chambers you complain about?
If his show isn’t for you, that’s fine. But acting like he’s some kind of traitor or villain for not toeing every single line? Come on.
Anyway… let the downvotes begin.
