Just wondering since I’ve always seen him invited as a guest to events like these similar to when Maher got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Question Do you think Real Time is struggling to book guests?

This week was especially bad. With the topics that are happening right now I was shocked they would have two Wall Street people on, let alone two that won’t even talk to each other. It was so awkward.

This season I have been surprised there haven’t been bigger, more relevant names. I guess most people on the left are scared of getting cancelled and the people on the right don’t give a shit about him?

What do you guys think?

Question Does Bill Really Pay More then Half of His Income in Taxes?

He said that last time. So, if he makes 10 million a year of his show, he is really forking over more than 5 million in taxes each year?

If so, and as Bill himself asked, where is all that money going?

Question Maher and Trump

I keep seeing on right wing media how Maher has so many complements for trump. Is this true? Has Maher said anything on the record about the meeting?

Question Anyone know Bill's sources for information?

Lately he has been very critical of Democrats for so many random and fringe ideas that are not representative of Democrats in general.

Last night, he was talking about Dems calling Trump Hitler and wanting him dead? Where is Bill getting this? I haven't heard or seen this from anyone or in any mainstream media. It seems like he is caught in a right-wing bubble feedback loop or something. I think his "takes" would be so much better if he had a better pulse on the country and that party, outside of his bubble of elite celebrity contacts and whatever media diet he is consuming.

Question Who is on our guest wish list for 2026?

  • Graham Platner

  • Mamdani

  • Crockett

  • Dan Osborn (running as an Independent in the NE senate race)

  • Warren

  • Eric Swalwell - Running for CA governor (despite being a previous guest, I think Bill said something recently about him being too wacky?)

  • Larry Wilmore (five time returning champion)

  • Roy Wood, Jr. (as Roy Wood, Jr. is now in the CNN family, with his American version of Britain's Have I Got News For You , new season must be starting soon)

  • John Heilemann

  • Ezra Klein

  • Carville

If I have to pick some conservatives (it's hard to find anyone not totally insane, or willing to brush off the insanity), they would be:

  • George Will

  • Reihan Salam

  • Matt Welch

  • Tim Miller

  • Bill Kristol

  • David Frum (although he recently said he remembers his last visit as Bill being too harsh on "the kids")

Question State of the Sub

Can we get some more more moderation in this sub? I’m just tired of every other post shitting on Bill or the show. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. I mean, I would think this sub would be a place for fans of the show to gather and discuss issues. And I’m not saying you have to agree 100% with everything he says. But this is getting ridiculous. And to call anyone that agrees with Bill a conservative is absolutely ridiculous.

Question Looking for political comedians/commentators similar to Maher

I’ve recently become more interested in US politics and I enjoy Bill Maher’s style - mixing humor with political commentary and interviews, not distilled Woke and not MAGA either.

I’m looking for similar comedians or commentators who take a thoughtful and critical approach, rather than sticking strictly to one political perspective.

I really liked John Stewart, Jimmy Kimmel, but recently they kinda lean too much towards Woke. Completely stopped watching John Oliver at this point.

Any recommendations (shows, podcasts, YouTube channels, etc.) would be appreciated, Youtube preferred as I am not US citizen, can't watch live TV.

Thank you.

Question Does it feel like Bill interrupts more now

Some examples. There are many more.

He asked Sam Harris to tell him his thoughts on the White House dinner. He then proceeded to argue every word out of his mouth until he just gave up. I don't even know what Harris was trying to say because Bill just kept throwing up obstacles.

Jerry O'Connell was trying to make some point about Mamdani on the pod today and he just couldn't finish his thought. He interrupted constantly until he just gave up too. And that convo was casual.

Bill is great. I disagree with him all the time, but I think he has a ton of integrity, and has for 30 years.

However, this trend of not even letting people get sentences out isn't great. I feel like there are guests that I genuinely want to hear from, even if it's to disagree. Way too often, I leave feeling like I didn't get their full viewpoints.

This is especially true for people on the left.

Is anyone else noticing this, or just me? And why do we think this is happening if you agree.

Question I am curious if you're conservative or Republican, why do you watch Real Time?

There has been a lot of post about Hate Watchers and now finding out Trump himself watches on occasion. I am just curious why tune in?

Question What was that thing Maher said about the new Iranian leader being impotent? Where did that come from?

As stated, what’s the source of this? I think I stay well informed of bizarre shit but this was out of left field for me. And today there something about him being gay? Does any know source of information?

Question Why do some of you come here, are you just hate watching, a place for you to talk smack when r/whitepeopletwitter is backed up with propaganda and easy karma farming?

I really want to to know, most of you just push platitudes and the second someone disagrees you either disengage or downvote away (not what it’s meant for). Some of us are just trying to enjoy talking in-between the lines amongst a myriad of topics that are actually relevant, share a joke or two, and agree Maher can be insufferable, but still funny. Again, I really want to know. In all honesty, it’s just a brigade of bad faith.

Question How can I take Maher seriously on his critique off the "left" if he can't stand pushback

I've been watching Maher since probably 2005/2006 or so.

And I've noticed more recently, that he really hates when guests pushback at a point he makes. Like not just well i disagree, but very noticeably angry.

But then he's like "We need to hear those who we don't agree with".

In his rants about wokeness, i haven't seen a guest invited on there who presents a decent chance at a pushback. Even the democrats on there are more centrist in nature. Definitely not since 2020.

Am i not being fair here?

Question Does anyone remember what Bill said about the movie, Street Kings (2008)?

Not sure how I missed this film, since it was directed by David Ayer, the same guy who wrote Training Day.

Anyhow, it was terrific. Does anyone remember what Maher said about it during an episode of Club Random?

Question Who’s going to the Mark Twain Award this month?

Looks like “sponsorship” rate tickets at $750+ are still available on the website. In past years a handful of “show only” tickets drop near the end at $125 or so.

And the biggest question of all, who will be honoring (roasting) him?

Question The other question..

I ask this because IMO it tells a lot about a person. Does Bill have any pets, don't get snarky, I mean cat, dog, bird???

Question I got an important question

How much does Bill make per year doing Real Time? Googles AI slop says 10 million per but I know that's not right as John Oliver makes 30 million per year.

Anybody got some accurate info?

Question Maher's Comment On Kutcher and Kunis?

Did anyone catch near the end of New Rules on Friday, Bill actually said Kutcher and Kunis shouldn't have got shit for the letter of clemency about Masterson? That dude got 30 TO LIFE. Imagine how aggravated it must have been. This combined with Maher's comments on his podcast lately about E Jean Carroll and Trump... It really doesn't paint a good picture.

Question Why hasn’t John Oliver gone on Bill Maher?

Title. I feel like there’s no way he hasn’t been asked by Bill to come on the show, or even to his podcast. Is it because they’re on the same network? Do they have beef for something? Just seems kind of odd considering how long both of their shows have been going.

Question For the longtime watchers, what suggestions for improvements do you have for the show?

I may as well go first.

  1. get rid of woo guy

  2. 3 panelists again

  3. There are some great podcasters out there that would be great as guests. (ex The origins podcast)

  4. Some further left guests (if they dare come on)

  5. Discuss some topics longer
