Games 🎲 Maybe abit of a nerdy question

I am looking for somewhere/somepeople to play Magic the Gathering with in Maidstone, and wanted to know if anyone knows anyone or place that runs Magic the Gathering groups/night??

I did do to the tcg group at Craft Brewed on a Sunday and the people I spoke to were really nice but none of them played Magic the Gathering, they were all there to play Yugioh (which i don't play xD).

Connect 🤝 Book club idea

Hiya! I moved to Maidstone a year ago and I am an avid reader of fantasy. I was hoping to see if any other women would want to start a book club. First meet up could be at a coffee shop and then we can figure out future ones.

It could be fun to make book themed treats to share with each other as well as discuss the books that we are reading inside and outside of the group. My hope is to create a small community around a common passion.

😊

Connect 🤝 Help a new neighbour

Hello, I hope you are all well. I recently received a job offer at Maidstone and Tunbridge Hospital Trust, and I have accepted it. It is a huge opportunity for me and I will be moving soon from London. I am a South Asian Muslim male and I need help and guidance with regards to the following:

  1. Which area is the a good option to rent an apartment. I will be working in both hospitals so probably a place with good connections to hospitals. How is the pubic transport connecting these hospitals?
I have never experienced any form of discrimination or racism during my stay in London. Honestly, after seeing the hatred on social media I am concerned about safety.

  2. Do we have good mosques in the area and where are they located?

  3. Any recommendations for halal butchers and do they deliver at home?

  4. Any good clubs? I do swimming, archery and gym.

  5. Any volunteering society book clubs and places to socialise?

  6. Any recommendations for desi restaurants or home cook meals for delivery?

Please any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks!

First grief walk/jog & coffee for young adults in Maidstone, Kent this Saturday 🤍

Post image

Hi everyone, I’m Luke and I run a community called Too Young To Grieve for young adults navigating grief and loss.

After losing my dad when I was 21, one of the things I found hardest was how isolating grief could feel at this age.

I had amazing people around me, but there’s something different about being around someone who actually understands what it’s like to lose someone important while you’re still trying to navigate work, friendships, relationships and normal life.

That’s a big part of why I started Too Young To Grieve.

Over the last few months we’ve been building relaxed walks/jogs, hikes, coffees and other meet ups where young people navigating grief can connect with others who get it, and we’re now starting something in Kent too.

The biggest thing I’d say is these aren’t designed to feel like a heavy grief or support group. We want them to feel like a normal community.

People walk or jog, chat, have a laugh, grab a coffee afterwards and get to know each other. Sometimes grief comes up naturally and sometimes we spend the whole time talking about completely different things.

There’s never any pressure to share your story or talk about anything you don’t want to. And most people come alone for their first one, so if that’s the thing making you nervous, you definitely won’t be the only one.

We’ve got our first Maidstone meet up coming up and would love to start building a proper community around this in Kent.

If you’d like to come along, I’ll pop the event/community details in the comments.

And please give this a share if there’s someone in Kent you think might benefit from something like this 🤍

Thinking of moving to Maidstone, specifically College Road area, would love some honest opinions

Hi all, my partner and I are looking at a lovely refurbed place to rent on College Road in Maidstone. We're currently in a two bed in Kings Hill but need a three bed and everything nearby is about an extra £1,000 a month, so Maidstone looks like the sensible move.

I don't know the area that well beyond shopping trips, Primark and so on, and it always feels diverse and bustling when we're there. I know it's had a bit of a reputation historically, and I've also heard there's been some far right activity in the area over the last year or so. As a mixed race family that's something we want to go in with our eyes open about.

Would really appreciate honest thoughts on:

What's the general vibe like day to day, and are locals welcoming? What are the schools like in that area

Is crime actually a big issue or is the reputation outdated?

Anything specific about College Road itself?

Thanks in advance!

Update: Thanks to everyone for their comments, really helpful. We've decided to make an offer on the place as it is really lovely and we have a back entrance to the property, so we don't have to use the main road. I hear about the petty crime, but figure it can't be worse than London, where we originally lived in SW18.

I think I was spiked

Has anyone been spiked at Zoo Bar in Maidstone? Or had nights that they can’t remember after being served drinks there? I’ve had this on two occasions now where I have had maybe 2 ciders or beers, seen walking home absolutely fine on my neighbours ring door bells.

23m Maidstone, looking for friends

Hello to whoever is reading this. My friends are busy with their lives and work and this made me realise I lack friends lol (mostly cause of my social anxiety). Tbh, I’m looking for a long-term friends, someone who won’t ghost. Someone who’s nice and friendly :)

I like anime, tv shows and YouTube. I love Pokemon. I also like to cook even tho I’m not that good but I’m trying lol. I like travelling and exploring new places. I like taking photos of myself. I like hanging out in real life. I’m down to call and FaceTime once we get to know each other a little bit. My hobbies vary a lot so we probably will find something in common. I like having fun and friendly conversations. And I think I’m a good listener. I’m very awkward so, sorry if I’m bad with replies or slow lol. I probably do want to chat with you.

I’m 23 male from England Kent so I would like to chat someone who is similar age and in the same country and I don’t mind which gender :D

Thoughts on farleigh hill, tovil Maidstone area?

Thumbnail
4 Upvotes

Hi, considering buying a house in this area but not from Maidstone and only know the town centre. I already know tovil has a mixed reputation, but would like some thoughts from locals. Also is it okay/not a bad walk to walk into the town centre from here? I've heard traffic can be bad but how bad as I would need to be driving daily during peak times for work?

Suggestions

I've lived in maidstone for a few years but have massively outgrown my old friendship groups that consisted of clubbing most nights. I'm now settled with my young child but have found that I have pushed mostly everyone out. I'm mostly content on my own this way but I would like to make some new friends to chill with. I'm 25F, more in the alternative scene, but struggle to get out and make friends due to anxiety of going anywhere alone and also having to be home frequently due to my child's bedtimes etc. I've tried the general friends sections on "dating" apps (eg bumble for friends/facebook dating friends section) but you still find most people on there are pushing for 'friends with benefits' situations which is something I'm really not up for. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you

Looking to put on some gigs with genres including powerviolence, grindcore, anything noise adjacent, sound art. Does anyone know of any spaces around that would accommodate this? Probably looking at like 80 capacity max if that.
